  • Diz (1)

If life is about "being in the right place at the right time," then Diz's timing could not have been better. Born and raised in Chicago, the original epicenter of the House Music uni-verse, his adolescence coincided with the beginnings of that city's legendary scene. Nowadays, if you mention Diz's name amongst House aficionados, you are almost cer-tain to hear adoration and respect for his insane DJ skills, stage presence, and warm-hearted personality. Diz's musical influences started at home, where his mother's love for Jazz led him to pursue the saxophone for many years. His DJ beginnings were about whatever he could get his hands on, like Disco and old Breaks records inherited from family members. When he was 14, his older brother took him to The Music Box, where Diz witnessed the true potential of House Music: to affect people's emotions and bring them together on a collective journey. He's been striving to do just that ever since, and in the process, has become a faithful participant in the music, the culture, and the times. Throughout high school, he frequented parties featuring DJs such as Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Farley and many other masters, and finally had a chance to break into the scene at age 19 after meeting contemporaries Mark Farina, Derrick Carter and Spencer Kincey (Gemini). His early gigs were at Alcazar with Gemini, and at one-off parties. At his Wicker Park loft, what started as a means of paying the rent developed into a two-year run as a nightclub, featuring Diz, Farina and Mark Grant on the decks. Soon after-wards, he and his friends took over Shelter, one of the city's "most severe night spots." >From roughly 1993-98, Diz was the Friday resident at Shelter, and the Saturday resi-dent at Red Dog alongside Johnny Fiasco, and since then has held many residencies at other legendary Chicago spots. In 1995, Diz accepted a job working for his brother's friend, Anthony Pearson (Chez Damier), at PRESCRIPTION (the label founded by Chez and Ron Trent). PRESCRIP-TION conducted distribution business with CAJUAL, and that is how Diz met his future producing partner and close friend, Joshua (whose nickname as fate would have it, was "Iz"). In 1995, Iz n Diz produced their first record together, "Ghosts in Detroit," released on PRESCRIPTION's sub-label, BALANCE. A year later, Joshua/Iz moved back to San Francisco, but he and Diz maintained a close friendship over the years and continue to produce together for labels like CLASSIC, AESOTERIC, GUIDANCE, TWEEKIN', SIL-VER NETWORK, and PANHANDLE. Diz is currently on a touring tear taking him one of the planet to the other while some-how finding time to finish up an album with mate Iz, coming soon! ̸ SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY Phil Weeks & Diz - Who's Gonna Be The One? - Robsoul Revisions (2004) Latenight Society* Featuring Diz - Down For It ‎(12") - Amenti Music (2009) Joshua Iz* Feat. Solid technical skill, unmatchable versatility, and a true love for music are among the many things that separate DJ Intel from his contemporaries. His unique style makes him a fan favorite. DJ Intel's ability to spin many genres, including house, rock, dubstep and contemporary as well as hip hop classics, keeps the dance floor full and leaves the people wanting more at the end of the night. DJ Intel's interest in turntablism began in the mid 90's. He looked up to such Chicago legends as DJ PNS and Tone B Nimble and soon began the journey of perfecting his craft. Armed with his brother's hand-me-down turntables, a mixer and passion, he would begin to make his name as one of Chicago's premier party starters. Along with being a founding member of both The Comeups (along side DJ Pickel and Galapagos4 and Now and Again records recording artist Maker) and the DMC and ITF champion Platter Pirates (along side Spryte, Kico, and Vajra), DJ Intel holds down several residencies through out Chicago and has worked everything from charitable events to B boy battles to fashion shows, with crowds ranging from 15 to thousands. He has also preformed at events with the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Cypress Hill, Pete Rock, Afrika Bambaataa and Z- Trip as well as headlined major music events such as Lollapalooza and SXSW. DJ Intel has also taken his show on the road with several tours, most notably a 32 state excursion with then Ninja Tune's DJ Vadim. He has also traveled to grace the main stage of many legendary parties including, The Root Down, Low End Theory and The Music Machine. DJ Intel's skill extends beyond his live performance. He was voted 'Best MixTape DJ' by WNUR's Time Travel Show and the web community on DJZTRIP.COM. New York Post and Entertainment Weekly have also taken note of his outstanding abilities. So, when you are headed to a party and you see DJ Intel on the bill you can guarantee that you are in for an amazingly diverse party, full of nonstop dancing and entertainment. ̸ SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY DJ Intel has released many mixes on CD, Cassette and now in downloadable formats. "For me and my life, it's not the medium, but the story." A former music journalist, Duke was active for local alt. weekly Newcity Chicago (where he served as Editor for the Club Section for several years), as well as a regular contributor to global lifestyle juggernaut Resident Advisor and Magnetic Magazine. In 2012, Duke left both music journalism and a 12-year career in film to focus on DJing. Fast-forward to current day where Duke serves as resident/partner with underground upstart WYA Chi, whose recent bookings have included Derek Plaslaiko, Mike Servito, Eddic C and Rahaan. • Emanate

Emanate (Emily & Nate) fell in love with the mystique of electronic music at an early age. Nathan Vain knew right away what his future passion held when he acquired his first turntables at the age of 17. Emily Fox took a different route starting her journey in the music scene as an organizer and promoter. This endeavor lead to landing Nathan his first residency at a popular after hours spot back in 2001. A few years down the road and a desire for their success growing strong they moved to San Francisco together and started producing music as Emanate. Nathan enhanced his knowledge of music and the industry working at DanceRecords.com from ‘04 to ‘09 as a Content Manager. That was followed by a stint interning at the Mothership / Dirtybird labels. He also spent some time at the DJTechTools office working with midi controllers and software. Emily has developed her understanding of electronic music culture by throwing various events throughout San Francisco over the years. She also spent some time as a member of (a few) bands where she was writing songs, singing and playing keyboard. Emily’s next logical step became DJing, as a way to expand her talents and performance needs. Following the path of natural evolution they started up their own label Mioli Music in 2010 (Move It Or Lose It). Since 2010 they’ve released music as Emanate and individually. They have also signed various international artists on Mioli. Both Emanate and Mioli had a breakout year in 2013 when Kollektiv Turmstrasse charted their remixes of Lily Ackerman’s “Africa” and also their remix of Tr-Ack’s “Stay” on Resident Advisor. Being featured, charted and played in DJ sets along with the likes of Stimming, Adriatique, Bonobo and David August was a milestone that validated their hard work and dedication, it also alerted the world of their arrival. A relocation to Berlin in early 2014 helped formulate and solidify their craft and sound. While in Berlin Emanate produced and released their debut album “Alliance” and played their first Live Show. The Alliance album was well received and featured on various music magazine websites and dance music blogs but also recognized by Emanate as an immensely developmental experience. 2016 was a remarkable year in their progression touring Mexico, Ibiza, Bulgaria, Berlin. With festival bookings at BPM, Mountains in the Meadows and Northern Nights. Most recently they toured the U.S. performing at imfamous venues such as TV Lounge, Spy Bar and Members Only. From Techno, Tech House to Deep House you can expect a clever blend and balance of deep and edgy music that is thoughtfully procured.

  • Ilana Ariella

Gramaphone Records owner, Michael Serafini said it best: "[she] just can't get enough [House]." Once accused of being an ‘undercover DJ,’ ilana ariella’s natural talent and ear for tunes has helped propel her career from bedroom aficionado to fully fledged artist. Pushing through a global pandemic, she stayed relevant by regularly streaming with her Chicago residency SHFFT. She also found time to get into the studio, putting out two original productions, “Rock the Vote,” self released in the fall of 2020 and “Falling Up” a collab with her SHFFT colleague Shmoo, released on Chicago legend Ron Carroll’s digital imprint Electric Disco in summer of 2022. Notably, she was recently named a Defected Records top 100 DJ in their Unsung Heroes contest, beating out almost 4000 mix submissions. ilana has a surgical like precision when it comes to her mixing style, spinning records when she can or dexterously using a CDJ (never Master Tempo, never Sync, always by ear). ilana’s card has been punched by many of the Chicago House legends, she has been awarded the opportunity to be direct support on numerous occasions to Derrick Carter, DJ Heather, DJ Lady D & Diz to name a few. Soon she will add ‘Label Boss’ to her list of credentials, launching a digital imprint of her own “Cheap Talk” in 2023. Truly one to watch, you can catch her vibe in person at any one of the major Chicago nightlife spots as well as the occasional underground. ̸ SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY https://ilana-ariella.bandcamp.com/track/rock-the-vote https://www.traxsource.com/track/10028748/falling-up-original-mix

  • MARK FARINA

Over the last ten years, Mark Farina has built himself up to become one of the most sought-after DJs in dance music today. Though he is mostly recognized for his deep-house DJ prowess, it is Farina’ wide-ranging musical knowledge that helped shape the Mushroom Jazz series, a continuously mixed collection of down-tempo, dance-floor jazz for the turntablist generation. A mix-tape made over eight years ago was the project’ original seed – a similarly-styled tape of jazz tunes that articulated a mellower counterpart to the up-tempo “Acid Jazz” movement of the day.,Farina’ “Mushroom Jazz” sound subsequently became popular through a long-running San Francisco club called Jazid Up, then through various Mushroom Jazz clubs thrown domestically and abroad.,Farina began his DJing career at the age of 15, inspired by the strong house and dance music scene pulsating in Chicago’ underground. Along with long time friend and DJ partner, Derrick Carter, Farina cut his teeth on the college radio airwaves of Northwestern University’ WNUR every Friday night for 2 years. Farina has released one album, Mood.,(Nettwerk UK Records, under the name Symbols and Instruments), and several other mix projects including Seasons (Domestic Records), United DJs of America (DMC) and Imperial Dub’ compilation (Imperial Dub) in addition to the Mushroom Jazz series and his mix on OM Records’ “San Francisco Sessions’” debut.

  • Sven Väth

Through his recordings, epic-length DJ sets, dozens of commercial mix albums, and label operations, Sven Väth is one German trance and techno's most popular proponents. Originally the lead singer of a dance-pop group named OFF, Väth hit the big time in 1986 when OFF's "Electrica Salsa (Baba Baba)" became a number three pop hit in their native country. The band later disintegrated, leaving Väth free to pursue his interest in the hard trance underground of Frankfurt. An Accident in ParadiseVäth became a DJ of note for his marathon sets, which sometimes approached 24 hours, and his 1992 co-founding of Harthouse Records. His own releases on the label included those by Barbarella, Astral Pilot, and Metal Masters with the help of his partner, Ralf Hildenbeutel. Blessed with an agreement connecting Harthouse and its subsidiaries to the American major label Warner Bros., Väth released Accident in Paradise, again with contributions from Hildenbeutel, as his first solo album.
