With a djing journey of more than 15 years, Darker Than Wax co-founder Dean Chew is a highly respected dj, selector, radio host from South East Asia. Ever since the early formative years of immersing himself in raves and secret house parties during his uni years in Australia, Dean Chew aka Funk Bast*rd has been on the musical journey as for long as he can remember. He has cut his teeth playing in the legendary Zouk club / Velvet Underground in Singapore since the early 2010s and has grown a robust community around his Darker Than Wax parties and activations around the island. Together with co-founder Kaye, the duo have been tirelessly pushing and promoting an alternative expression of leftfield music through the label, as well as recruiting like-minded souls to join in their cause. Being the main A+R and creative mind behind DTW, the label has flourished tremendously over the past 5 years, cementing its place as one of the go-to labels out of South East Asia. During this period, Dean has also ventured further afield, establishing links internationally and regionally, and played most recently at We Out Here festival in the UK, HÖR radio, Le Sucre in Lyon, Potatohead Bali, Dimensions Festival in Croatia, various cities in Europe, Asia, and Brazil. In 2016, he was also invited on Jamz Supernova’s BBC 1XTRA show to do a special label showcase, Rinse RM, and swung through the legendary Brownswood basement of Gilles Peterson for a 2-hour exclusive Worldwide FM mix. His extensive musical knowledge and tight mixing skills has earned him a regular spot on the station, and has proven to be one of the most trusted selectors and Djs to have emerged from the South East Asian circuit. It’s no surprise then that he has played alongside and supported some of the world’s finest like Benji B, Kyle Hall, Lefto, HAAI, Dreamcast Moe, Gerd Janson, Basic Soul Unit, Linkwood, Norman Jay, Souleance, Pearson Sound, Krystal Klear, Tiger and Woods, the late great Mike Huckaby, Seven Davis Jnr, Dj Ez, Fourtet and Dam Funk. With intercontinental ties to renowned music collectives such as Super Enjoy (Singapore) and The Operatives (Australia), Jenn has made a habit of disarming crowds with her no-frills style and perpetually unpredictable sound. Drawing upon her multicultural roots in Malaysia, and the leftfield sensibilities gleaned from her young adulthood in Melbourne’s underground, Jenn’s freewheeling blends encompass everything from nostalgic Asian pop to forward-thinking electronic music, with unanticipated (yet perfectly-timed) drops of sensual R&B and UKG chops when the mood calls. ̸BIOGRAPHY Born and raised in Rome, with German DNA and a diverse musical palette Ae:ther is an artist who has quickly established his pedigree as a formidable producer and selector through scintillating DJ sets and a batch of stunning releases. Now based in Berlin, the 29- year-old has returned to the motherland where he is steadily cultivating a reputation for haunting melodies and narcotic rhythms. With strong connections to Damian Lazarus at Crosstown Rebels and the Afterlife crew, Ae:ther has considerable industry support with his focus on delivering high-quality dance floor ready cuts that channel his love for ambient electronica and transmitting deep emotion, while keeping the energy levels high. Ae:ther discovered club music early in his life, inspired by Underground Resistance and the early Detroit sound, along with artists like Autechre, Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream and Miles Davis - pioneers who pushed boundaries. As producing and DJing became a daily obsession, he left Rome to go and study in Milan. She traveled weekends to NYC, just to catch the dynamic duo, Danny Tenaglia and Danny Howells at clubs like Vinyl. And that was the start of her love affair with vinyl and DJing. Amber has been hitting the decks ever since 2002, and is keen to explore new grounds, at home, and around the world, with fresh cutting-edge electronic music that is sure to get the vibes right and the crowd ready! She spends her time exploring traditional as well as digital mediums – such as Ableton Live, external effects, and drum machines. New Delhi-raised, Bali-based DJ, DITA. New Delhi raised, Bali-based artist DITA began her DJ-ing career in 2014 after being exposed to the varying perspectives constituting Indonesia’s music culture. Exploring the sounds with a keen ear and a growing excitement, DITA established her collective “Interrupted” which solidified her eclectic practice as she bounced between Jakartan and Balinese dance-floors. Armed with musical prowess and an infectious spirit, you can now find DITA with a wide-range of versatile selections including Proto-House, Disco, 90’s breaks, Balearic and beyond. ‍ DITA’s nuanced sound curated over the years has seen her play on stages such as Boiler Room, Wonderfruit Festival, all across Australia and at Potato Head Bali where she is a key resident.

Now based in Melbourne, she’s established herself as one of the most open minded DJs on the local circuit, immortalised by a legendary Inner Varnika and Golden Plains set's that saw her fearlessly transition from Jon Hassell to italo disco, memphis rap and Bristol bass and UK techno.

Can be sure his sounds will be typified by a deep house and minimal ingrained, tripping groove focused mentality. Although his sound is constantly evolving, DOTT interests is stapled to music for dancing. The approach in both his production and DJ sets is rooted in love for deep house and minimal, combining indelible bassline grooves with an intoxicating analogue sound palette. Despite his humble persona, as a DJ and producer, DOTT is an integral player in Bangkok’s expanding underground house and techno scene, he has played in some of the cities key venues such as BEAM, Glow, Safe Room and De Commune. His reputation has spread across the dance music scene network from clubs to festivals bringing his unique style to Singapore’s Headquarters, Epizode Festival, TAG Chengdu, Wonderfruit, Montreux Jazz Festival, Karma Kastle and a few of illegal and secret parties DOTT is also one of the three founders of "More Rice", an Asia-based, vinyl only label together with Sarayu and Mikhail, in which the direction is more towards obscurity. Their main vision is to support Asia's upcoming talents by creating great connections between them and other international artists around the world. He has played alongside the likes of Roman Flügel, Maayan Nidam, Dandy Jack, Thomas Melchior, Archie Hamilton, Alexi Delano and Eric Volta to name but a few. Fiedel limitlessly undermines & overrides expectations. He's no average techno or house DJ. His sets build something new, while capturing the moment. Whether straight techno, banging 80's acid or electro funk: he always surprises. Contrast. Objection. Antithesis. This is how you might start an attempt to describe the world. A seemingly chaos of shapes and thoughts that don't belong to each other. An overall image to be found in life and in music. But that's not how Fiedel views things. Where others make distinctions, he sees connections, where others find emptiness, he finds rooms full of opportunities. Finding those harmonies, connections and contexts marks out his musical work. The synthesis of apparently opposing music, the interaction and the mix of styles and moods, without loosing the storyline, that makes out the characteristic Fiedel sound. Born and raised in Brandenburg, he finds access to the music through various artists and styles in the mid 1980s. He was influenced by artists of the old school hip hop like Mantronix and Egyptian Lover and the early works of Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk. A very important influence was Monika Dietl’s radio show at Radio 4U in West-Berlin. Her show aroused the fascination and the longing for musical freedom and diversity, that was not possible in former Eastern Germany. Those impressions gave him a first feeling, a first vision of what should become alive later on. After the wall came down, the way was open to access a fresh scene, and with it came a whole spectrum of new and old music to discover. In the beginning of the 1990s, he started DJing in public as a regular at the Monday events at Subversiv. Shortly after he began his collaboration with his befriended Errorsmith under the name of MMM. They released several productions and play live shows. Since 2000 he is resident at OstGut and later on at Berghain. On the compilation Fünf he had his first solo release on the incorporated Ostgut Ton label, followed by contributions to the compilations Various (2013) and Ostgut Ton | Zehn (2015). In 2012 he eventually founded his own label Fiedelone, to give his own productions a more personal base. In spring 2014 he developed a live set, which he premiered at Berghain. March 2017 saw his first full Ostgut Ton release with the 12" Substance B, followed up by his contribution to the Berghain mixes series in January 2018.

Hailing from Singapore and making his debut in 2018, HALAL SOL produces deep house and acid jazz soul inspired beats. His music is influenced by 90s house music and is characterised by wafting synths and deep, hypnotic groove. He incorporates controllerism into his live sets, blending an organic feel into electronic music. His immersive take on electronic music has seen him win the approval of the underground electronic music scene in Singapore. He has recently been featured in local electronic music showcase UPLOADING. Other than producing, he takes to the DJ booth spinning house beats at venues such as Headquarters and Intermission Bar and overseas at Studio Lam, Bangkok. Steadily exploring new avenues, he was featured in singer-songwriter Charlie Lim remixes release to present a rework of ‘Zero-Sum’. He was also selected to be mentored in the sought-after Noise Music Mentorship programme organised by the National Arts Council.

Jonathan Kusuma is a musician, producer and DJ based in Singapore and Jakarta. Running his label and Parties Dekadenz in Jakarta, a resident DJ in Headquarters and Tuff Club in Singapore. His main releases have been under the influential music labels I’m a Cliché (Paris) (Automatone EP, 2016) and Cocktail d’Amore (Berlin) (Black Magic EP, 2016), Cocktail d’Amore 10 Anniversary Compilation 2019. Kusuma has also been released by various internationally respected labels, such as Correspondant (Berlin)'s compilations (2016 and 2017), Ene Records (Japan), Power Station (Melbourne). He has also done remixes for Correspondant, Roam Recording (Los Angeles), La Belle Records(Paris), Calypso (Mexico), Hard Fist (Lyon) and Tom Tom Disco (UK). In 2014 he released his debut EP "Gong 3000" on I’m a Cliché followed by the "Underpass" EP on Love on the Rocks (Berlin) in 2015. Additionally, in the same year, he released various remix projects for 5alad on "Factor City" Label (Barcelona), Split Secs on "Machine Limited"

Born and raised in the Bronx, DJ and Producer Kush Jones’ gateway into the world of sound-making all started with the sample. Growing up surrounded by R&B and soul played at home, he became interested in the way his parents' records were flipped in modern music. He began learning computer-based music production while in an after-school program as a teen, and while most of his peers were taking the traditional hip-hop route, he desired a more expansive palate. In the late 2000s, he attended Lite Feet battles, one of NYC’s homegrown dance cultures, which led him to discover similar scenes around the US, such as Chicago footwork, Jersey Club, and more. Still fascinated by the way all these genres reworked classic sounds to form new ones, Kush set off on a path to fuse his influences to form his voice for the dance floor.

In addition to her solo releases, Maara has contributed to various international compilations and continues to bless the scene by bringing a playful atmosphere to dance floor bangers. As a DJ, label head, radio host and curator with over a decade of experience in the music industry, Marco Weibel is a connector in the truest sense of the word. Whether crisscrossing genres behind the decks or hosting events, he’s known to draw a diverse crowd that quickly become loyal followers. Centred around the spirit of community, his parties foster friendships that reflect music’s unifying nature. Originally from Singapore but based in New York since 2014, Marco comes from a rich cultural heritage that’s reflected in his DJ sets. Drawing similarities to Hunee & Floating Points, his selections traverse a range of sounds, often jumping from spiritual jazz to Thai funk to UK garage in a single session—a testament to his deep crates and skilled mixing. Inspired by legendary parties and spaces such as Paradise Garage, The Shelter, Plastic People and Deviation, Marco explores old and new underground styles in the spirit of educating and entertaining dancers. A regular on the US and Asian nightlife circuits, he’s played at Nowadays, Good Room and Public Records in New York, Dante’s HiFi in Miami, Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Potato Head in Bali and many more. Renowned worldwide for co-hosting his six year-old ‘Darker Than Wax FM’ radio show on New York’s The Lot Radio, the weekly program has developed a cult listenership, serving as an essential resource for music lovers across the globe. In 2018 he moved to Bali and continues to be involved in many DIY and DIWO party movements in Jakarta, Jogja and Bali. He is a member of ENERGYROOM, an underground party crew that has been around since 2004. He is a Founder of Happy Swinging and 480Minutes, iconic outdoor dance parties in Yogyakarta. And in 2013, he joined Kingdom of Rebel (KOR) crew by House of Natural Fibre, a new media art collaboration, where he toured in the Philippines and South Korea. He has also played shows in Melbourne, Australia. Ones is regularly seen playing the important venues across Indonesia - Supanova, H Gourmet, 365 (JKT), Koh, Single Fin, Luigi's Hot Pizza, Potatohead Beach Club, Sugarsands, Mano Beach House (Bali), Canting, Taphouse, Taj Lounge (YK). He has also played at B-Side in Manilla, Club MWG, Cakeshop and MIDNIGHT Seoul in Korea, and Workshop and Dr Morse in Melbourne. Ones is still pushing the underground party movement through his Casual Dance project, and is showcasing a wide range of music selections as the Music Director of online radio show Paddy Grooves, Bali based radio station by Tantra Crew. He is also an initiator for Frekuensi Antara, an online media-offline activity platform across 8 cities in Indonesia. Ones' latest work is a documentary exploring the evolution of the dance music scene in Yogyakarta - Katalis Kota 'Yogyakarta.'

Being an obsessive music collector, Ramesh has had a strong career and following as a DJ. The last thirty years have seen him play in clubs around the world including Dagmarkt – Holland; Heavyweight - Montreal and Studio Lam – Bangkok. Locally he has played at Singapore’s most influential venues, from legendary after-hours club Lola to internationally acclaimed Zouk. He has held five DJ residencies including his present stint at the award-winning, premier rooftop nightclub, CÉ LA VI Singapore. He has continued his innovative style while performing at music festivals including Womad, Mosaic Music Festival with Montreux Jazz and Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival. In 2017 Ramesh was invited as a delegate at the Oslo World Festival in Norway. His inspiration from Oslo World led Ramesh to collaborate with seasoned industry players to develop Tropika. An inter-disciplinary festival centered on worldly rhythms, art and film. It aims to drive conversation and action on universal matters of social justice concerning inclusivity, sustainability and wellbeing.

Entering its fifth year More Rice has become one of the key names in South East Asian Underground Dance Music. As a DJ and Producer Sarayu is considered as an integral player in Bangkok’s growing underground house and techno scene. His UK driven sound has taken all over the world playing venues and festivals such as Zukunft, Silbergold, Village Underground, Fabric and Feel Festival. He can be seen playing regularly at some of Bangkok’s key parties and venues such as Never Normal, De Commune, Karma, Transport and Wonderfruit Festival. Under quarantine in 2020 Sarayu released his first track on a VA compilation “Harvest Vol. 1”, under his own imprint. In 2021 he released his debut EP “Pridi 303” again, on More Rice, remixed by MR. Ho. As well as, opening More Rice Record Store, a hotspot for music lovers and vinyl diggers all over the world and launching Bangkok Community Radio. Early 2023 Sarayu released his latestl EP “Intelligent Jump Rope Music” scheduled for release on Boiled Wonderland Records, keep an eye out for more remixes and releases over the course of this year.

The Weatherman began noticing, and appreciating music late in his teens through local radio stations, the internet, friends and films, where interest in other musical genres mutated to obsessions. Music events from local night clubs, labels, collectives, and record shops sparked his fascination of how music allowed people to both disconnect, and connect; experiencing the possibilities of music to fit or challenge particular locations, and occasions. Often meandering through genres when dishing out DJ sets, predicting The Weatherman's forecast is often a futile venture, best to keep them ears and minds open.

Vaibs is a DJ based in Singapore, playing regularly for Thugshop Group at Headquarters, Tuff Club and MDLR, and he is also the founder of Unmute.sg. Vaibs, has solid roots in Singapore's club and party circuit, known to deliver high-energy sets with blistering grooves, deep thumping beats and good vibes. A vinyl collector, who rarely slows his grooves and is obsessed with fusing vintage sounds with modern electronic music. He serves up a dance floor mix of techno, electro, breakbeat, house music, and some unexpected curve balls. Vaibs is a regular on the lineup for the Thugshop group playing at Tuff Club, Headquarters and MDLR and for several local pop-up underground parties in Singapore. He has opened for the likes of Joyhauser, Drunken Kong, PIG&DAN and Christian Smith to name a few and recently played gigs in Bali. He also hosts a monthly show at Hanoi Community Radio under unmute sessions.

While living in Singapore, he co-ran the notoriously decadent after-hours series Breakfast Club and later held a residency at Headquarters - where his off-kilter selections made him an ideal supporting act for visiting DJs like Black Merlin and Intergalactic Gary. Currently based in Hong Kong, he is now a resident of 宀 and their flagship industrial/ebm/techno night - Entropy 熵. He also co-runs RADIO HURUHARA, a mix series focused on the stranger side of electronic music.
