about
Every DJ would like to think themselves a real musical connoisseur, but Hunee really is - it’s not him that says so, but pretty much anyone else whenever the man born Hun Choi pops up in conversation. His DJ sets have of course taken him all over the world from Aus to Asia, America to Europe, but they take listeners much further. As likely to draw for a classic house record as he is a disco curveball, a boogie delight or mixing an African bomb into a techno record, each selection he makes is a thing of true passion – you can see it not only in his eyes, but so too in the eyes of those dancing along whether he is making one of his appearances on Boiler Room or holding down a residency on NTS radio.

  • SHERELLE

SHERELLE is leading a new generation of high-speed ravers who are addicted to jungle, drum ‘n’ bass, footwork and juke. Through her DJ sets, radio shows and record label she gives a platform to both scene elders and new talent and is committed to pushing 160bpm+ dance music into the future. The London-born DJ has been busy since that Boiler Room sent her signature brand of low-end energy viral: She’s held down a year-long Radio 1 residency that’s seen her showcase cutting-edge dance music to a mainstream audience as well as host OGs like DJ Spinn, 4Hero, Kode9 and Luke Vibert as well as next gen disruptors like Mantra, L C Y, Yazzus and Fracture; She’s started the Hooversound label alongside partner in club music Naina with releases from Hyroglifics, Sinistarr and Deft; And she’s co-founded the incendiary 6 Figure Gang squad with Fauzia, Jossy Mitsu, Dobby and the aforementioned L C Y and Yazzus. • 808 State

One of the most important dance music acts of all time, 808 State played a major role in popularizing acid house in the U.K. at the end of the 1980s, and have remained a primary influence on several generations of techno, IDM, and alternative dance artists. Initially associated with the Madchester scene, which otherwise consisted of dance-friendly rock bands descended from post-punk and psychedelia, they were among the first groups to put a British spin on Detroit techno and Chicago house, producing electronic tracks that were complex and experimental yet melodic and accessible. Debuting with the free-flowing acid tracks of 1988's Newbuild, the group scored a major hit with the lush, summery 1989 single "Pacific," which hit the U.K. Top Ten and remains one of the most beloved tunes of the rave era.

  • Altın Gün

Altın Gün offer an exciting mix of Turkish folk, psychedelia, funk and rock. After performing in Istanbul , bassist Jasper Verhulst became fascinated by the Turkish sound of the 70s. At that time, artists like Selda, Barış Manço and Erkin Koray combined traditional music with western rock influences. Along with bandmates Ben Rider and the bands' first drummer, Nic Mauskovic, Verhulst searched for Turkish musicians to revive this sound. They found Merve Dasdemir and Erdinc Yildiz Ecevit through Facebook. Jungle by Night’s energetic percussionist Gino Groeneveld joined the group and the band was complete. Altın Gün play songs from the aforementioned artists from the 70’s and their lesser-known contemporaries and also make their own arrangements of Turkish traditionals. This way different worlds meet and form a refreshing danceable sound. In 2018 drummer Daniel Smienk joined the band. The new album, Gece, will be released in April 2019 on Glitterbeat Records.

  • Changsie

Hailing from the coastal town of Chiba, Japan, Changsie has spent the last decade establishing herself as one of the most in-demand and trusted DJs in Tokyo. Her monthly party, Joyride, transforms a small reggae joint in Shinjuku into a genre-defying celebration of underground music. The open-minded, party-focused philosophy that’s central to Joyride was developed alongside her soul mate, Lil Mofo, and is reflected in her own sets, which have been heard on bills alongside DJs as diverse as Nina Kraviz, Theo Parrish, DJ Sotofett, Ciel and Errorsmith. After playing with Will Bankhead a few times, a cassette for The Trilogy Tapes is in the works - watch this space! Changsie’s ears have long been tuned to the boundary free possibilities of contemporary club culture, an appreciation that has already helped her create a stir across Europe, including a memorable closing set in Ohm as part of Berlin Atonal, imprinting a high-energy memory on ravers even when following a selector as distinctive as Batu. Following a youth immersed in hip-hop and R&B, a studied and timeless appreciation of dubstep and UK bass guides each Changsie set, possessing the ability to shift from meditative states to the rhythmic complexity of bleep techno and the ecstasy of acid-flecked house and techno. Having played in Europe, Australia and across Asia in the last year, a series of mixes for Crack and Discwoman have introduced Changsie’s style to an international audience, and have garnered support from her own heroes and peers. Guided by bass and inspired by the energy of her audience, Changsie continues to make her imaginative and truly cross-cultural mark on the landscape of dance music.

  • Danielle

̸BIOGRAPHY When a true selector takes flight, it sounds as though they re-mould each track to fit their specific vision. That’s exactly the effect Danielle has as a DJ, drawing across stylistic divides to create an instinctive groove which is all her own. On top of a foundational core of house, techno and electro she folds in myriad sonic wildcards to create dynamic, innovative variations on the club music experience. It’s logical her tastes would be omnivorous – Danielle spent 10 years working at fabled London record shop Phonica, one of the definitive destinations for dance music in the city, as well as a lengthy tenure at iconic Bristol store Idle Hands. Being across new releases week in, week out is one thing, but knowing how to stitch them together is another. From the breakthrough years perfecting the craft of a great warm-up to her long-standing residency on NTS Radio since 2017, Danielle shaped her approach to DJing from a free-thinking, fluid angle which still rings true now she’s more commonly found at the top of the bill. Danielle’s DJing has touched upon vital events, venues and locations around the world, from touring the US and playing flagship festivals like Glastonbury, Dimensions, Kala and Love International, to clubs like DC10, Fabric, The White Hotel, Corsica Studios and Tresor, holding down a residency season for Colour Factory in London and Left Bank in Tbilisi, and frequently picked for parties as revered as Timedance, Herrensauna and Livity Sound. In tandem, her skills have been recognised by key publications including Mixmag, DJ Mag (she was nominated as a best breakthrough DJ in 2020) and Resident Advisor. Beyond her own DJ work (she’s also a frequent contributor to many a mix series), Danielle also takes the time to impart her experience and knowledge to the next generation via her classes at Mix Nights – a non-profit organisation she helped set up seven years ago to encourage women and non-binary people to explore the art of DJing. Elsewhere, she works in an A&R and consultancy capacity for Team Love – a role which speaks to her consistent instinct for new developments within club music. Similarly, her label Soft Raw was founded in 2022 as a platform to champion the fresh talent she comes across in her position as a revered DJ. All these elements feed into the overall mission Danielle is on, pursuing her love of dynamic, physical soundsystem music with errant coding in its DNA. Keyed into new revolutions in the ever-evolving culture of the dancefloor, Danielle melds her impeccable taste together with fierce commitment and flair, delivering the impulse to move and presenting wholly new ideas to any crowd, any party, any time, anywhere.

  • Dixon

Berlin's Steffen Berkhahn, best known as Dixon, has made a major impact on the global dance music scene through his adventurous DJ sets as well as his renowned Innervisions label. While minimal techno dominated dancefloors during the 2000s, especially in Dixon's home city, he helped shift the balance back towards house music, incorporating vocals and a dramatic sensibility within a techno framework. Though he's released a few innovative mix CDs, he's gained his reputation mainly due to his DJ gigs, exhibiting his mastery of track selection as well as pacing and flow, and has become a frequent, in-demand presence at major clubs and festivals throughout the world. As a producer, he is known for remixes, edits, and collaborations rather than solo compositions; he frequently makes fine-tuned edits of tracks specifically for usage in his own sets, and has crafted well-received mixes of songs by Disclosure, LCD Soundsystem, Depeche Mode, and numerous others. ~ AllMusic

The Russian-born Tel Aviv native Marina Rubinstein (the honorific is strictly cosmetic) moved to Berlin in 2012, shortly after beginning to spin, and swiftly became one of the sharpest party d.j.s anywhere. A Dr. Rubinstein set is easy to recognize—it’s both stark and raucous, festooned with vintage-Roland TB-303 acid synth lines and an unforced bonhomie that’s rare in techno. She remains a committed dancer: “If I’m not playing, you won’t ever find me in a d.j. booth,” she recently said.

̸BIOGRAPHY DJ, producer and affiliate of Intercept records based in [NL] French II is a Dutch DJ and producer based in Tilburg. Drawing from a wide range of influences, his functional and murky, breaks- and percussion-heavy sound especially depicts Frank’s deep-rooted ties to UK bass music. He has been releasing on Intercept Records, a label and crew close to his heart, and hosts his own night Go! in his hometown Tilburg. French II weavs together eclectic mixes of breaks, Bass and techno. In September 2021 he earned himself a residency at the celebrated Amsterdam DJ-bar Radio Radio. With the familiar genre-disobedience, he seems to vent his more introspective side and provide the freedom for experimentation, giving room for melancholic atmospheres and brooding basslines to step in.

  • FRONT 242

Front 242’s history starts in 1981 when Daniel B. lays out his ideas on a first single: « Body to Body ». Patrick Codenys (keyboards) and Jean-Luc De Meyer (vocals) join the band for the first album « Geography » in (1982), followed by Richard 23 (vocalist/stage performer) in 1983. While developing their own independent recording and graphic units, along with a unique presentation on stage, the band progressively reaches a larger audience in Europe, touring and releasing records of its brand new genre they soon label « Electronic Body Music (aka EBM) ». EBM being a collage and synthesis of music and sounds, recycled from the media or TV, often reflecting or enriched by other artistic disciplines. In 1984, Front 242 sign on the label Wax Trax from Chicago. The EP « Take One » (1984) is their first U.S. release, their success there will be massive.

  • Ineffekt

̸BIOGRAPHY Through a blend of glistening vocal pieces, strings of dreamy melodies and distinctive rhythms, Ineffekt cleverly takes on a sound that both feels comfortable and illusive. It’s a nonchalant approach that results in colorful euphoria. Debut releases 'Kora' (Album, 2021) and 'Broken Dreams / Solaris' (EP, 2020) on Intercept, as well as a string of remixes including Coloray's ‘Blinded’ and Luna Morgenstern’s ‘Click Work Drop’ capture the above. Surrounding themselves with influences from a wide range of contemporary music, including breakbeat, pop and techno, it’s not so much aiming for a specific, but reaching for a compromise between eras and stylistically diverse sounds. That fusion of influences also shows up on the long list of releases planned for 2023. Leading to esteemed artists and platforms in the left-field to embrace his output. Following his 2020 debut EP, Ineffekt broadened his horizon by exploring hypermodern contemporary music that resulted in a run of original productions and remixes, including his debut album ‘Kora’, that have influences from all over the place, most notably breakbeat and altpop, as well as hints from a new wave of colorful electronica that has been developing in recent years. Consequently the 21-year-old supported Avalon Emerson, Bicep, Bonobo and Mall Grab on their tour nights, as well as performing at DGTL Festival, Dekmantel Selectors and prominent club De School in Amsterdam. ̸SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY Catch The Sun / A Blackbird Rose on Intercept (2022) Kora on Intercept (2021) A Dream of Spring on Something Happening Somewhere (2021) Broken Dreams / Solaris on Intercept (2020)

The producer and musician behind most releases on "Needs (not wants)" and several full length albums covering territory from Jazzfunk, Ambient, Jazz and lots more now returns to dancefloor oriented material. Lars' live set includes guitars, keys, voi.. As a young child Lars Bartkuhn started out writing his first piece of music with a synthesizer and sequencer, which his parents bought him upon realising their son’s obsession with music. Playing guitar as a teenager Lars fell deeply in love with the music of Pat Metheny, Keith Jarrett and John Coltrane but also with countless other styles beyond Jazz such as Soul, Funk, Rock, Alternative, Brazilian Sounds, Classical, Contemporary, Minimal and Dance music. In the mid 90s Lars became fascinated with the deep and soulful side of House music and formed Lamaya Productions and now legendary record label NEEDS (not wants) together with his older brother Marek Bartkuhn and DJ Yannick. NEEDS rapidly became a synonym for soulful high quality music and while labeled a ‘House’ music imprint it was Lars’ input that lead the trio to explore into alternative, and at the time unorthodox, musical influences that allowed for original textures and arrangements to be included into their productions. Countless remix commissions followed and their sound travelled worldwide with works for Francois K, Jazztronik, Ennio Morricone, Atjazz to name a few. Many of Lars Bartkuhn’s productions have been played, charted and loved to death by DJs around the globe. Some tracks even heralded as true dance floor classics creating a solid, international fan base. To date Lars has produced five solo albums all of which demonstrate a never ending creative flow of ideas and artistic diversity, complexity and passion. After some years away from the Dance scene, residing in Brasil, Lars has decided to continue the journey with a couple of fresh releases for Neroli and Utopia Records. With this return to dance floor oriented music Lars will also be touring a new live act that shows Lars brewing those special vibes and rhythms in real time using sequencers, synth’s, guitars and his voice.

His eyes are always fixed on the crowd in front of him, making sure everybody is enjoying the music as much as he is. His sets are a mixture of eternal styles: dreamy house, 90’s techno, leftfield sounds and trance influences. Going from subdued vibes to the more emotional side of things. Next to dj-ing Lucky Done Gone launched his own platform Modus in 2022 at the latest club ‘Parallel’ in Amsterdam. It’s here that he can connect people and show his diverse musical taste in multiple ways, which goes far beyond just house and techno. • Mall Grab

Jordan Alexander (aka Mall Grab) is an Australian house producer whose specialization in lo-fi tracks doesn't stop him from encompassing a variety of genre influences. Emerging in 2015, Alexander took his moniker from the sarcastic term used when someone holds a skateboard incorrectly -- with the grip tape rubbing against their clothes -- which is typical of people who use one as an accessory; the name hints at the fun-loving nature behind his productions and his often-cheeky demeanor. Sun RaBorn in Newcastle, Australia, Alexander was originally inspired by his parents' rock & roll record collection, but when he hit his teens he developed a love of electronic and dance music, specifically electro and the rise of the Ed Banger crew. As his taste matured, Alexander found an affinity with dusty, understated house cuts, leading to his debut EP, 2015's Feel U, which saw release on Canadian label Collect-Call; despite being the label's first unknown signing, the EP quickly sold out. ~ AllMusic

With roots in Japan, his diversified upbringing is strongly translated into his musical output. Masalo’s DJing is proof of this hybridism, unearthing organic music from the past and combining them with new era dance music in a seamless way. This year his tour de force Dekmantel Boiler Room together with Kamma, along a full touring schedule of club and festival appearances has put him in the international spot. Born in the French mountains, Grenoble, 1973, Kittin expressed an interest in the visual arts – she studied both contemporary and graphic arts. As time progressed, however, Kittin found herself emulating her parents’ musical tastes by developing an interest in musical genres ranging from classic, jazz, funk & disco to English Pop. Finding her niche in Electronic Music in 1991, Kittin raved all around the country before doing her first mix in April of 1993. Her first set came one year later in 1994, at which time she started her career with Tekmics Booking Agency, playing in the famous Dragon Ball wild parties of Southern France.,<br/ >In pursuit of other opportunities, Kittin left France in 1996 and relocated to Geneva, Switzerland, where she would join the Mental Groove Record Posse one year later. Through years of an exciting and mobile career as a DJ, Miss Kittin is confident with her own personal sound. She states, “I get quickly bored when I listen to the same sound. DJs have to take risks, without only thinking about what people want to hear. Some people say I’m too technical. • Nina Kraviz

Nina Kraviz is one of techno’s most iconic DJs. Famous for both her dynamic and varied DJ sets, captivating performances and her acclaimed label трип (Trip), she’s been a techno powerhouse since she launched on the scene in 2009. In 2020, she played a series of live stream events and virtual festivals including an empty Dance Arena at EXIT and even on top of Mount Olympus in Greece. She also collaborated with streaming giants Spotify when she was chosen to be part of their trackID series, providing a regularly updated playlist to the platform that includes tracks from her own label as well as a diverse collection of releases from across multiple genres. That genre-hopping is also evident in her sets, where trance, techno, ambient and hardstyle can all be heard in one swoop, with her inimitable presence in the booth adding to the allure of Kraviz’s sets. As the DJ who played the most sets of any other in 2018, we’re sure she’ll be the first to hit the road again once it’s safe to do so. ~ DJMag

  • Palms Trax

Palms Trax is a producer and Dj based in Berlin, Germany. His first record was released in October of 2013 on London-based imprint Lobster Theremin. For aspiring DJs and producers, or indeed anyone who appreciates a good story, the genesis of Palms Trax couldn’t have read any dreamier. You know the one; curious yet naive son of the English Riviera lands a job at one of London’s leading record stores and discovers the masters of Chicago house and Detroit techno. Later, stumbling around Berlin, his primitive attempts to emulate the sound of his newfound heroes accidentally land him a bona fide dance floor hit. A gradual but steady stream of EPs courtesy of Dutch dance music powerhouse Dekmantel have allowed his productions to blossom in richer, smoother directions. On 2015’s ‘In Gold’ EP, and throughout the following year’s ‘High Point on Low Ground’, halcyon hallmarks of house - euphoric piano lines, bubbling acid and luminescent keys - are shot through with Donaldson’s tough, distinctive percussion. It’s that same connection with Dekmantel that has encouraged Donaldson to quickly, impressively evolve as a DJ of some distinctive taste and talent. A memorable performance at Dekmantel’s flagship Amsterdam festival in 2015 captured open hearts, lost minds and aching feet. Since then, the sound of Palms Trax has been a fixture on their enormous main stage, drifting seamlessly between vintage house, esoteric disco and the various shades of a bubbling UK underground he has helped define. Occasional back-to-back performances with the likes of Hunee, Young Marco, Antal and Midland, all DJs regularly credited for their breadth of musical knowledge and sheer versatility, speak volumes for Donaldson’s DJing nous, which has lead him on an international trail; from South America to Australia, and from Panorama Bar to Concrete, Contact, De School, and Lux. Donaldson has also-amassed a patient, open-minded following with his cult monthly radio show, the decidedly less-than-culinary ‘Cooking with Palms Trax’, broadcast on Berlin Community Radio since 2015. On each show, Donaldson takes a deep, vinyl-led drive into his adopted history, fostering a level of trust and shared curiosity that has allowed him to helm all-night sets under the ‘Cooking with Palms Trax’ moniker. Into 2018, he’ll be holding down residencies in Boston, Glasgow and Bordeaux, as well as inviting like-minded DJs into his metaphorical kitchen, throughout a series of self-curated evenings into early mornings of music.

  • Richie Hawtin

Richie Hawtin played an essential role in developing the sound of minimal techno, as well as spreading its popularity throughout the global club scene. • Special Request

Special Request is the new rugged alias for house and techno stalwart Paul Woolford. Inspired by the unruly conventions of UK pirate radio stations, this project captures the raw energy and diversity of the illegal airwaves and uses this as a springboard of inspiration for a series of heavyweight productions that span from murky house through darkside techno to chaotic eye-of-the-storm hardcore/jungle tear-outs. Mainly inspired by the spirit of 90’s Techno and IDM, his contribution as a producer could be described as club focused but not merely functional. The dusty and stepping drum programming, often contrasting with the dense, atmospheric surrounding, is one of the peculiarities of his style, which in fact, references often to the Jungle or Hardcore era, but basically aims to evolve with no genre boundaries. As a Dj he maintains a similar, versatile and open minded approach, ranging between contemporary and classic but forward thinking club music.

  • Woody92

Woody92 is a visionary artist who’s musical craft runs parallel with a visual aesthetic resulting in very tangible outcomes. This highly expressive being draws influence from an array of external factors outside of music; subjects such as history, graphic design, the medieval era, the path of religion and the church all play a decisive role. He also keeps a tight circle of like-minded music heads many of which collectively shape the landscape of the Dutch underground scene. His story as an artist can be traced back to his hometown of Delft, a quiet part of the Netherlands with little musical identity but crucially neighbours with bigger brother The Hague. That being said Woody still caught glimpses of the psychadelic Techno, mystical ambient, free tribal tekno and push forward goa and psy-trance movements but locally it failed to rival that of the likes of Rotterdam & Amsterdam.....
