about
Venezuelan born Berlin based Hyperaktivist it's been shaking the scene in and outside Berlin with her characteristic energetic sets, oscillating between faster Techno and House with big influence in the 90's and old school tracks.
She started working for the development of club culture in her native Venezuela since an early age. There, she co-founded SOLO, the first club dedicated exclusively to electronic music in her hometown.

Now she continues that labor in Berlin with not one but two vital community-focused club nights.
Her first called Mess, Mindful Electronic Sonic Selections, a forward thinking club night happening at OHM which have a focus on femme and queer artist from diverse cultural backgrounds, and it's dedicated to the celebration of diversity and supporting DIY club culture around the world.

Her newest Mala Junta, which she co-founded along with Dj Tool and that counts with D.dan, Yazzus and Why Be as residents, is considered one of Berlin’s fiercest underground queer-techno parties, with a focus on inclusivity, Mala Junta approaches the faster, groovier edges of dance music with an open mind and a relentless spirit.

Hyperaktivist have directly influenced a shift in the scene in Berlin, not only through introducing her Tribal euphoric fresh sounds, with great influence in her roots from Latin America and the Caribbean coast where she grew up, but also by constantly nurturing and pushing up her community and advocating political values of equality & diversity at the forefront of her projects.

Since being selected as one of the Shape Platform for innovative music artists in 2016, she has been touring around the world. You can find her playing from Berlin’s most renown clubs to all across Europe, USA and South America, always bringing her characteristic energy and commitment to the dance floors, merging genres with ease she takes influence both in her time spent in Berlin and South America.

  • Gabrielle Kwarteng

New York-born DJ and Lot Radio resident Gabrielle Kwarteng is on a steady, slow-burning rise upward. Her guest shows won her a Mixcloud Online Radio Award and a regular slot, which garnered her a loyal following and led to bookings across NY and beyond. Gabrielle Kwarteng’s journey so far is one of passion, dedication and the occasional strike of fate. Born and raised in New York, Kwarteng’s name has recently risen in prominence throughout a challenging time for dance music and club culture. A DJ, radio host and curator, her sets have recently enchanted Panorama Bar in Berlin (four times in less than twelve months, no less), equally vital club spaces such as NYC’s Nowadays and Manchester’s own White Hotel, as well as a span of festivals including Love International, Glastonbury, Melt and Dekmantel Selectors. Listening to Kwarteng, whether in a cavernous rave hall, a sweat-soaked underground club or making intimate selections on the radio, is an experience that feels at once familiar but always energizing. Kwarteng’s diverse taste and open-mindedness lead first, allowing her to fluidly slip through a mix of heady 80s and 90s NY house, disco interpretations that traverse diaspora and eras, percussive passages alongside boldly broken beats and, as the lights get lower, an undeniable acid undercurrent. In an era of everything at once, Kwarteng weaves stories for the dancefloor that often look to the past, but always focus on possible futures. Kwarteng arrived at this position via a mixture of study and circumstance. Born in Brooklyn to Ghanaian parents but raised in the Bronx, her childhood was soundtracked by a mix of first-wave Highlife, Afrobeat and disco. Outside her front door, in a thriving neighborhood of diverse American experiences, entire sounds and scenes expanded and exploded as pop-culture began to mutate in new ways, both online and off. Crossing to Manhattan for school, the tempo changed entirely as rock, hip hop and experimental music filled Kwarteng’s ears while she studied intensely. Her academic focus was paramount, but Kwarteng couldn’t help but drift back towards the beat. First, from sciences to arts, where, at an esteemed upstate New York university, her dedication to trawling music blogs rendered Kwarteng the de facto DJ for house parties. She also began broadcasting on college radio; her daybreak show was a particular hit with professors arriving to work early to mark before lectures. Bouncing back to New York, Kwarteng continued to present a show on the burgeoning online radio station The Lot. In 2017, she was presented with the Mixcloud Online Radio Award for Best Eclectic Show, an early and completely unexpected acknowledgement of an instinct for music that traversed genre expectations. In parallel, Kwarteng played each and every Saturday night in the majestic ballroom of the SoHo Grand, amassing vinyl for a residency that helped define the uptown musical scene with her own downtown sensibilities. Now based in Europe, Kwarteng continues to criss-cross not only genres, but continents. Overcoming her inherent introversion to nervously approach Giles Peterson at a record store in Paris proved fortuitous; so impressed was the storied DJ by Kwarteng’s show on local station Le Mellotron, he invited her to appear at his own festival, Worldwide. Appearances at suitably open-minded spaces in Madrid, London, Bristol, Copenhagen and Kyiv soon followed. Wherever she performs, Kwarteng’s expertise serves to not only continue the championing of Black American genres such as house, techno and disco, but equally, to explore the continuum of global dance music as a whole. Having laid the foundations for a unique musical journey, it’s a level of respect that’s tangible on any dancefloor. In these increasingly sacred spaces, Gabrielle Kwarteng’s personal passion translates into collective ecstasy. The dig continues.

  • Avalon Emerson

Avalon Emerson is from the desert. While she currently lives in Berlin, the music she produces comes from the dreamlike expanse and abstract textures of the Sonoran landscapes of Arizona. Her journey has taken her from that sunbaked state to the contemporary dance music mecca via a long stint in San Francisco, where she cut her teeth as a DJ in the city's storied warehouse party scene. In her DJ sets and productions now, she offers a timeless narrative that reflects a passion for the sound design of new wave, the futurism of techno, the soul of American house and the exuberance of rave. Though she's built up steam in 2015 from multiple sets at Panorama Bar, and globetrotting all around Europe and North America, she's just getting started, and continues to outdo herself with original productions released on labels like Shtum, Spring Theory, Icee Hot, and her own DJ tool edit pool, the Cybernedits series.

  • Cormac

Primed to become an ‘overnight success’ in a similar way all overnight successes break-through; following many years of hard-work, Cormac is currently one of dance music’s best-kept secrets. With a rapidly growing reputation as a revered selector, the Northern Ireland born DJ is setting a course for dancefloors the world over with his sound that comprises the breadth of the house and techno spectrum, but with one defining characteristic; always records that touch the inner sanctum of the human spirit. Since he began collecting music as a teenager near Belfast, his journey has been singularly driven by the discovery of amazing sounds, and his humble role in the constantly renewed potential for dancefloor transcendence. Having traded in an all-too-quiet rural Irish life for the hedonism and high times of a very different London in the early 00s, Cormac was a regular dancer at zeitgeist defining institutions such as Trash, Nag Nag Nag and Bugged Out.

Hamburg native Helena Hauff is an in-demand DJ as well as an acclaimed producer of gritty, hard-edged electro-techno. Her music draws from influences such as acid house, EBM, and industrial, and she records her tracks strictly using analog equipment, usually in one take. Her full-length debut, 2015's Discreet Desires, contains some of her most melodic material, while 2018's Qualm is more stripped-down but no less energetic. • Mika Oki

Mika Oki is a visual artist, Dj and producer born in Paris. With a background in sculpture and electro-acoustic music, she explore the notion of intangible spaces and emotional landscapes through AV installations, music and mixes. Like a sculptor who knows that the slightest miscalculated move of a chisel could damage the totality of an artwork, Mika Oki’s selections elude great mastery and undeniable preparation. Doing wonders in her many radio shows, it’s difficult to realise her taste in rumbles and undeniable love for sounds from across the Channel (drum and bass, UK garage, 2-step, grime…) before seeing her on the dancefloor. Never hesitating to alternate a 90s dance anthem with an obscure juke track, she also manages to gather seemingly disparate and conflicting elements together, creating an incredible coherence. Percussive but generous, erudite yet uninhibited, she pieces together unique mixes that never cease to surprise. Eternal dreamer, she uses abstract sound textures and kinetic images to generate mind trips, body journeys through music performances and immersive installations. She also developed an interest in Djing in clubs and radio shows where she translate her atmospherical experimentations, blurring The boundaries between techno, dub and ambient/narrative sounds. This year, she played in European audiovisual festivals like TodaysArt, SONICA, CYNETART and in Uganda for the last Nyege Nyege festival. She also exhibited her work “Reverse Osmosis” at Berlin Atonal 2018. Her involvement in the electronic and experimental music scenes, and her desire to highlight the Belgian artistic community led her to become station manager at The Word Radio in Brussels.

  • S-candalo

̸BIOGRAPHY S-Candalo is a DJ duo made up of Tania and Dominik Humeres-Correa (THC & DHC). They are siblings, and in their sets, one can hear alongside a deep honour for the oldschool sound a kind of telepathic link that siblings share. Raised in Germany with Colombian and Chilean roots, they are well-acquainted with the act and mindset of mixing (tracks, attitudes, languages) and keeping one’s back to another’s back. In the past years the siblings have engaged in fields ranging from music management to fashion and in their blends there is also a certain synthesis of passion and defined taste that speaks, simply, to fierceness. Fearsomeness, too – their sound is burning and relentless with seductive vocal samples, loopy synths, and bright, punchy kicks. On their recent mixes for platforms such as MARICAS, Radiant Love, Rinse FM, and HÖR, obtuse melodies from the 90s blend with sassy club bangers, then into polyrhythmic grooves, and so on. Their sound is overflowing with the queen and the queer, an energy they also direct into Venus Vessels, a non-profit music collective hosting parties and programming a residency on radio8000. With upcoming gigs this year in London, Amsterdam, Athens and Berlin, expect scandals and heated speakers from city to city.

  • THC

̸BIOGRAPHY Bogotá-born, Berlin-based Tania Humeres Correa plays under the moniker of her own initials: THC. It’s not a gimmick – to hear a track slammed into another so deftly is a psychoactive experience. THC’s sets are kinetic, propulsive in this way. High-energy without a loss of soul, hard-hitting and still very playful and very gay. We are reminded that techno need not be a gloomy, rumbling march, and that house has a whole range of attitudes at the same time ruthless and smiling. She blazes, to put it simply. Having heated Berlin dancefloors and airwaves for a few years, THC is one of the founders and resident at La Noche and Venus Vessels. She has her own show HOT BOX at HÖR radio, and has released mixes via DJ Mag, Fact Mag and NTS. The last year has also seen her playing alongside her sibling DHC as the duo unit S-candalo. Regardless of format, there are always those THC-signatures: punch; euphoria; and streaks of vocal samples intoning the classic dancefloor theme of unity, be it political, sexual, spiritual or some sweaty mixture of it all.

Always sweaty and sexy, his sets are scattered with catchy basslines, nasty vocals and bouncy percussions. He became a resident in 2018 in Vitamina (Milan, Italy) and in 2022 in Body Language (Berlin, Germany), where he plays regularly.

  • Adriatique

After getting to know each other in Zürich in 2008, Adrian Shala and Adrian Schweizer became inseparable, not just as friends, but also as artists. The two men carved out a career as one of the most consistently delivering DJ/producer duos in the house and techno scene: Adriatique. The key to an enduring partnership is, of course, to complement each other, and the two Adrians do so admirably. Music-wise, their various tastes combine into one unique sound, and their respective preference for studio work and performance means that both aspects are equally well covered. Adriatique’s DJ performances as well as their productions are long, meditative, relentlessly building affairs, ever challenging the listener with subtle twists interrupting their hypnotic groove. There is more to the duo than just a well-oiled electronic music machine, however. They also live together, draw plans together, and support art in all its forms together. ~ Official Website

  • Budino

̸BIOGRAPHY Music Lover For some DJs, music will forever be in the foreground of their mind; every free moment is spent searching for new music or conceiving ways to blend new discoveries. Italian born Budino is one of these DJs, hers is a constant quest for fresh material to weave in her sets – sets that exist in clubbers minds as glorious psychedelic tapestries sewn from dark trance-inducing beats, tribal percussion and rich cosmic textures. Given this dedication and dexterity it’s unsurprising that praise is heaped so readily on Budino’s sets. After moving to Berlin and playing throughout the city since the age of eighteen, she was soon co-running the party series Oscillator at the now defunct and much lamented iconic club Griessmühle, along with its sister vinyl only label. She soon became a mainstay behind the decks at the infamous institution of queer hedonism that is Cocktail d’Amore and has since held a residency there for many years. With a diligence to seek out the perfect music for every moment, Budino has spent many years honing her craft creating unique edits that breathe versatility into the music she has dug deep to find. This often means when you hear her play, it may well be the only moment ever in which will you ever hear that version. However, a handful of these edits have seen the light of day on New York vinyl label JustWhatTheWorldNeeds. Budino has also been responsible for curating the fourth edition of Love International festival’s compilation series ‘The Sound of Love International’’. It reflects her interpretation of the ideal soundtrack for an endless and idyllic day into the night on the beaches of Tisno on the Adriatic coast, nodding to her comprehensive taste as a selector. With her enthusiasm, devotion and impeccable ear for music, Budino continues to go from strength to strength as a DJ and has plenty more of her passion to share with dance floors around the world.

̸BIOGRAPHY Carlos Valdes (IsBurning) has been at the heart of the Amsterdam scene for years, as a DJ, label boss and promoter. Carlos Valdes has been a key figure of Amsterdam’s nightlife for well over two decades. His vital contribution to the city’s electronic music scene and LGBTQ+ community as a DJ, promoter, label owner, and all-round inspirator is indisputable. His mesmerising sets and endless likeability have made him an in-demand DJ in all corners of the globe. Carlos’ success did not come overnight, but has been underway since 1999, when he bought his first techno record. It’s the culmination of many years of hard work and utter devotion to creating the best possible vibe. As one of the founding fathers of the famous IsBurning nights, he helped lay the groundwork for the Dam’s now thriving LGBTQIA+ club scene. What started as a night with quality dance music for all gender identities at the legendary club Trouw, is now a worldwide phenomenon. Never communicating lineups, but always staging the best in house and techno, IsBurning has set venues ablaze from Munich to London, and from Barcelona to São Paulo. Carlos also co-owns Pamela, one of Amsterdam’s most popular queer bars. As a DJ, Carlos has built a loyal following through his sheer love and extensive knowledge of music. Their music collaborations until now include artist like Anthony Collins, Andrea Ferlin, Topper, Wareika, Martinez, Volkan Akin to name a few. In 2015 they have become a part of the vinyl only underground label Unreleased Ltd. with releases and remixes from Little Hado, Andrey Zots, Matt Starr, Alex Jansen, Cabanne, G-Man and many more. Having just announced their Cem + Rg - Modular Live show which gave its debut at Sonar+D Istanbul collaborating with Nohlab visuals, includes a highly integrated audio performance based on modular synthesis with optional visuals by their selected supported artists. As frequencies sculpt atmospheric sounds, visuals are enhanced and experimental ambient and dance oriented vibes are created. Slow baselines and rhythms flow across the journey as pattern generator performs improvisations with just a little help from the artists. It is an experience that shows the communication and interaction of machines with sounds, and plays with the idea of manipulating or supporting other art forms. no sleep. dream!

  • Christian Löffler

Being asked to describe his own music, Christian Löffler states that he tries to combine melancholy with euphoria. „All my music is connected by a gloomy spirit, which is minted by a warm sincerity. I try to merge all kinds of different acoustic colors to obtain this feeling in my music.” Löffler started to play music by the age of 14. Living in a secluded region, lacking a musical surrounding, he had to teach himself the essentials of making electronic music. Before long he developed his own deep and moving sound, colored with a melancholic undertone- Music for the soul & for the body. He recalls a variety of music styles he listened to as a child and teenager that were highly influential to his own development as a musician. Due to the fact that Löffler is also working as a visual artist, he’s following the same approach when making music that he’s following when painting or taking photos. It is more about telling a story than making everything accessible right from the start. In the course of the production of EP’s like „Heights”, „Raise” and „Aspen”, Löffler developed some strategies to use acoustic material in his music. Amongst others he samples different stringed instruments, percussion and atmospheres. He continues working with the recordings on the computer, combining, layering and alternating them. For his debut album „A Forest“ he enriched his sound collages by co-working with singers like Gry and Mohna. An Album in the spirit of the enchanting woods of his home region. The extraordinary capacities of this young producer have kept eyes and ears closely following the fresh talent as Löffler’s deep moving melancholic sound, is absolutely irresistible. In 2014 the highly acclaimed „Young Alaska“ EP is setting the stage for his second studio album to be released in Winter 2014/15.

  • Cora (CN)

Searing with Sichuan spice – Cora is bringing the heat from Chengdu. Orbiting the cosmic specters of techno, trance, house, bass and breakbeat, Cora’s ever-evolving sound delivers with compelling momentum and astral intuition – superimposing dramatic subplots and emotional undertows onto unfurling rhythmic narratives, while channeling an acute sensitivity to the kinetic desires of the dancefloor. All-night basement parties in the sleepless underbelly of Hong Kong’s OMA at the fulcrum of the ‘10s initiated Cora’s swift departure from the glitz and glamour of a long-time modelling career and stint as an indie film actor, towards an inspired pursuit of electronic energies and club music catharsis. An intercontinental dance savant, raving from China to Saigon and beyond – Cora has been a vital force in activating meridians between underground club scenes in East Asia and the rest of the world. Incubated over years of work, sweat and tears at dedicated nightspots The Observatory in Ho Chi Minh City and .TAG Chengdu, her nuanced aesthetic and penchant for ephemeral grooves have now synthesized into a sophisticated style of her own. After countless days and nights as the last girl on the dancefloor, Cora is one of the emerging talents providing the soundtrack to a city awakened, accelerating at a time where dance music has never been more vital.

  • Dee Diggs

A selectress with no inhibitions digging & choosing parts that build to Adventurous, Energetic, Seductive, & Rapturous sets spanning many genres. Dee Diggs is a DJ and writer based in Brooklyn, NY. She is unapologetically black, queer, and a life long student of the tenets of House Music. The year 2020 found her at the top of her game after a debut European tour during August 2019, her name was popping up on top bills on a weekly basis in NYC. Her energetic, yet deep approach to DJing has seen this Boston to Brooklyn transplant lighting up dancefloors all over; in particular, garnering attention in the queer party scene. This mixes well with her ethos: using her influence to create space for marginalized groups to express & organize themselves. Her aim is to contribute to & sustain more spaces where these groups are valued and thanked by name for their contributions to humanity. Thank the OG Black innovators of House & Techno! Thank you, Disco-era Queens & Queers alike for the theatrics & fanfare of nightlife as we know it! There are homages to these origins alluded to in her taste and most noteworthy mixes. Dee Diggs’ mix for FACT Magazine was released in March 2019 and charted on Pitchfork’s and Resident Advisors’ own Best Mixes of 2019 lists. It cut an arch through dance music’s past and present to convey an interesting melding of Dee’s signature sounds: lyrical storied tracks, sensual club edits, soulful realness, sneaky grooves, passionate thumpers, and nostalgic endings. Her eponymous party, House of Diggs debuted in February 2020 to stir and settle the hearts of all the lovers of house, funk, soul, disco, and R&B in Brooklyn, before the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent club closings curtailed that momentum for 1.5 years. However, 2021 has found her making strides again. Diggs is still crafting stellar DJ mixes for her Soundcloud and radio guest spots, while also building her music production chops in her home studio in Brooklyn. She has resumed curating House of Diggs as an event series at Jupiter Disco, a rotary focused intimate dance floor in Bushwick and also holds a DJ residency at a hi-fi nightclub in Gowanus, BK named Public Records.

  • Dis Fig

̸BIOGRAPHY For Berlin-based producer and DJ Felicia Chen (aka Dis Fig), risk-taking and provocation is an integral part of the creative process. Chen's live show fleshes out the unflinching sonics of debut LP PURGE (released in Spring 2019 on New York collective and experimental label PTP) into an astonishing and annihilating spectacle, her singularity on stage only augmenting the sense of a very personal rite of exorcism. Marking a move away from the dancefloor strictures that Dis Fig continues to explore in her full-blooded, multi-layered DJ sets, PURGE is a calculated procedure towards a new chaotic world. Tinted by fever dream atmospherics, Chen places her own vocals, which morph between inconsolable distorted wails and polyphonic reverie, at the forefront. Purge is an involuntary act; it journeys into the body-breaking cost of emotional repression and the crippling catharsis that inevitably follows. "This ain’t just your run-of-the-mill wall of power electronics and angry screams ... Dis Fig’s range is surprisingly undogmatic, including synthetic brass sections, flutes, and piles of quiet" - The Quietus "Harrowing as they can be, PURGE’s compositional twists and turns are harsh enough to offer you the same thing that they offered Dis Fig herself — relief from the bad shit you’re holding inside" - VICE In 2020, Dis Fig linked up with The Bug to create their album In Blue (released on Hyperdub), leaving her productions aside for intimate vocals and lyricism to match. “Dis Fig is the latest collaborator who brings out the best in (The Bug), revealing a new facet of her own artistry and unlocking a new dimension to The Bug's sound. Dis Fig transcends In Blue's origins in genre exercise into an otherworldly fever dream, an album of tectonic bass and thundering drums that somehow feels intimate and sensual. It's as much her triumph as it is his.” - Resident Advisor

̸BIOGRAPHY Who is taking the global bass underground by storm? It’s DJ Fuckoff Bitch! The New Zealand-born DJ, Producer and MC has come a long way since arriving in Berlin with nothing but a dream and a backpack: From smashing warehouse raves, turning streams into fully-fledged dance-off’s or casually mashing-up renowned dance floors, Fuckoff’s relentless positive energy and refreshingly nonchalant style have earned her a serious hype and a loyal following. Breaking through under the unlikely circumstances of full lockdown and after her steamy HÖR debut went viral, Fuckoff’s productions instantly turned heads. With her signature provocative lyrics, breakneck speed and energy-laden twists, standouts like “B.I.M.B.” and her contribution to “Trick” by Dagga have become instantly recognizable DJ favorites that saw releases on the likes of International Chrome & none/such recordings. While her DJ debut had to be postponed for over a year, Fuckoff wasted no time to blow the roof off parties. Dealing dancefloor damage around Berlin & neighbouring countries, she serves a fast-paced mixing style with unapologetic blends across various shades of the hardcore spectrum. On top of her energetic mixing, her standout live PA’s add an extra threat to her shows, regularly sending ravers into a craze. While channeling a distinctively youthful energy, DJ Fuckoff’s roots go way back: Literally growing up at early Bush Doof’s organized by her parents, electronic music has been integral from the earliest of ages. After cutting her teeth as a producer and MC on throwback hip hop productions, her focus soon shifted to electronic music. While being thoroughly informed by previous generations of dance music, DJ Fuckoff's own take – as the name suggests – doesn’t fear eroding genres, standards and stereotypes.

  • DJ Gigola

̸BIOGRAPHY like gigolo, but Gigola Gigolo means Playboy, but the word originally derives from the ancient French "Gigole" which used to mean Dancing Woman. This makes DJ Gigola both, a dancing woman and a playboy. Where others see tension and contradiction, DJ Gigola sees a chance for creation. In her playful way of breaking down boundaries, she hits the Zeitgeist of a generation that continuously transforms and recontextualises seemingly fixed concepts and stereotypes. As a result, both her sets and productions are quint-essentially genre-fluid. Her critically acclaimed cutting edge releases take a hybrid approach, successfully blending boundaries between Dance and Pop music. On a night out, you might hear DJ Gigola mix Madonna out of an old Bonzai record and back into Surgeon all within 5 minutes. Her sets are enigmatic and reflect a natural sense of curiosity - eager to explore, she does not shy away from experimenting. As playful as DJ Gigola’s selection may seem, however, she rigorously weaves together seemingly disperse tracks with one common thread: rhythm. She experiences music primarily through the rhythmic structure emergent from patterns of percussion rather than layers of melodic harmonies. This deep understanding for rhythm and groove, combined with her multi-facetted knowledge of music and curious audacity to try new things makes DJ Gigola one of the most exciting DJs to experience on a dance floor.

Jack was nominated as “Best New Producer” at the 2008 DJ Sound Awards, which led to even greater international recognition. His recordings are included on the playlists of such renowned artists as Paul van Dyk, Judge Jules, Andy Moor, Marcel Woods, John O'Callaghan, Flash Brothers, Agnelli & Nelson, Solarstone, Eddie Halliwell, to name a few. He has produced tracks for labels Maelstrom (UK), Five AM (UK), Fraction Records (UK), Backlash (Bonzai) (BE), Discover Dark (UK), Bralli Records (BR), 40º Degrees Records (BR). In 2009, record company RC2 Music offered Jack the opportunity to launch of a new venture: Factor 4 Records, one of the first Brazilian labels dedicated to trance and progressive. His position as label manager allowed Jack to release the first compilation series of Brazilian trance tracks - “Energy BR presents Global Concept”, with additional help from Armada records. Jack is the creator and leader of Energy BR, the first and only nucleus of trance and progressive in Brazil, whose purpose is to spread the styles and their variants around the country. All the major players of the Brazilian scene are a part of this team, which is considered the largest nucleus of this style in all of Latin America. Another project headed by Jack is State of Trance, parties which were pioneer in the sense that they took a chance with trance. SOT quickly became the standard for the entire country, and has showcased such artists as Ali Wilson, Johan Gielen, Sean Tyas, Menno de Jong and BT (Brian Transeau). SOT events are held in famous nightclubs like Anzu or Pacha in São Paulo and Club Nox in Recife, where Jack is responsible for the organization and promotion, as well as being the resident DJ. His career began to skyrocket in August of 2000, when Jack was a finalist during the 1st Brazilian Challenge of Electronic Music DJs, Space Jungle – Hypnotic. In 2004, Jack was one of only 12 Brazilian DJs to participate in Found@Thirst, a competition of DJs from all over the globe, promoted by Heineken of Brazil. He is a regular contributor to Beatz Magazine and the website rraurl.com, the largest portal of electronic music in Latin America, where Jack hosts a highly rated podcast, iTrance. From 2004-09, Jack had his own program on Pure DJ, an influential webradio from Holland, and included in his lineup were residents Andy Moor, Cor Fijneman, Ronski Speed, DJ Shah, Pedro del Mar, Leon Bolier and Joop. Recognition of his work led to the invitation in 2007 from Club Lov.e, in São Paulo, to be resident for the Supernova project. Jack began to play all the important events around the country, placing him on the bill with international musicians Armin van Buuren (currently #1 in the world - DJ Mag), Markus Schulz, Aly & Fila, Sean Tyas, Kyau & Albert, Marcel Woods, Ali Wilson, Johan Gielen, George Acosta, Menno de Jong, Ed Real, AJ Gibson, Juan Atkins, Ade Fenton and Portia Surreal. ̸BIOGRAPHY DJ KOOLT Experiencing from the beginning, step by step, the evolution of the electronic scene in Montevideo and influenced since very young by the most avant-garde sounds, nowadays there’s no doubt whatsoever about his being the most relevant model in the Uruguayan scene, after the great influence he has already stamped in several generations of local artists. Certain dj’s manage to go beyond the barrier of just playing music and create an atmosphere with a different energy, a result of mixing good music selection, according to each moment, and an exquisite technique to mix it. These are two features that have marked Eduardo Cardozo aka DJ KOOLT and MR. KOOLT since his very beginnings. Dj Koolt is one of the greatest exponents of the Uruguayan underground scene and a faithful collector of vinyl records. He also earned an European recognition by playing in many great parties such as FUSE (Brussels), Closer (Kiev), Club Eden (Bucharest), Closer (Kiev), Cartulis Music (London), Concrete (Paris), RED58 (Barcelona), OHM and Hoppetosse (Berlin), Goa (Rome) and much more. Playing for 20 friends at an after-hours or for 1000 people at some club, one can easily recognize Edu by a natural characteristic of his: the connection and the trance he is able to create in his audience. In 2013, he and two friends opened Phonotheque, the only club 100% devoted to Underground electronics in Uruguay and one of the best in the region. Few months after opening, Phonotheque became an important reference point at a national and international level and promoting their own style and distancing itself from conventional electronic music.

  • DJ Nigga Fox

  • DJ TOOL

DJ Tool With his roots deep in the Copenhagen DIY music scene Joachim Palsby, aka DJ TOOL, has been playing and collecting different music for more than a decade. After many years of playing punk, metal, and electronic noise music, he slowly developed an interest in techno and trance. For years he has been roaming the international dance floors as a loyal dancer and ended up behind the booth with the skills of all vinyl Djing. DJ TOOL is a classic example of a DJ that merges directly from the floor to the booth. He is the co-organizer and resident DJ of the queer party series Mala Junta. Mala Junta is a smaller intimate party with a focus on old school, faster and harder techno and trance that is merging in the city of Berlin. The party quickly became among Berlin's most recognized parties for its special music profile. His sets are an authentic and always well-executed blend of sexy techno and gloomy trance. The sound is old-school, hard and fast but always funky and uplifting. With a passion and expertise in longer sets, his closings are highly recommended.

  • Donato Dozzy

Few DJs and producers are as widely and universally acclaimed in techno circles as Italian Donato Dozzy. He has a rare ability to work his way into peoples’ minds in both contemporary and classical settings, conjuring real mood and atmosphere. Never one to pay heed to the zeitgeist, he prefers to deal in hypnotic soundscapes that really take you on a trip. Enigmatic as he is, and laidback as he seems, as an artist he is constantly unveiling new work. Displaying a large variation in terms of sound and method across many new releases each year — some of which come on his co-owned label Spazio Disponibile — he also puts out installations for public spaces and museums, uses obscure musical instruments, collaborates with likeminded producers, classical singers or visual artists. Donato seems to continuously challenge himself on a creative level: whatever method he uses, though, he is always likely to permeate your cerebral cortex and rewire it in fascinating and compelling new ways.

The Russian-born Tel Aviv native Marina Rubinstein (the honorific is strictly cosmetic) moved to Berlin in 2012, shortly after beginning to spin, and swiftly became one of the sharpest party d.j.s anywhere. A Dr. Rubinstein set is easy to recognize—it’s both stark and raucous, festooned with vintage-Roland TB-303 acid synth lines and an unforced bonhomie that’s rare in techno. Converging his club and DJing background with music production techniques Born on the beautiful but restless island of Cyprus, an environmentally idyllic place scarred by years of war, Stephanos Pantelas alias Elninodiablo began his journey in music collecting vinyl he would play on the airwaves of pirate radio stations. Though an inspirational crossroads of culture, Cyprus also proved to be rather unwelcoming towards LGBTQIA individuals, which soon prompted Stephanos to make the move to the ever effervescing city of London, whose electronic scene was booming in the mid-90s. From small bills to top-of-the-range discos, his DJing skills soon earnt him a resident position in the booth of some of the hottest gay clubs of the time, including Turnmills, Fabric and Heaven. Joining forces with Alan X, El Nino Diablo soon tried his hand at the art of remixing with outstanding contributions for Grammy-nominated Mexican band Kinky and British soul singer Mica Paris. This knowledge in production and jockeying, Stephanos would soon put it to broader use through his own eponymous PR platform; representing the likes of Horse Meat Disco, Salsoul Records, Jocelyn Brown, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Mulatu Astatke, Tegan & Sara, !K7, Strut Records and many more over the years. After eighteen years of grind in the English capital, time had come for Elninodiablo to explore new horizons. Packing his bags, Stephanos began the writing of a new chapter in his life. His sense-awakening voyage across the world took him to destinations as diverse as India, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, the US, Australia, New Zealand - where he got to live amongst intentional communities, looking to expand his vision and get more in-tune with nature. With the help of meditation, yoga and the therapeutic movement (5Rhythms, Movement Medicine) he found the second breath he desperately needed, triggering off a real creative rebirth as a result. “When it comes to sound, I’m inspired by my natural surroundings and life experiences. I’m fascinated with how sound can be a lived-in encounter having transformative qualities for both the artist and the audience. I envision to create mini-worlds with each piece of music, transporting the listener into a journey that bridges the gap between the conscious and the unconscious.” Settled-down in Berlin since 2016, Elninodiablo is further developing his music production skills at Catalyst Music, the creative arts & technology institute sheltered at the legendary Funkhaus studios. Taking cues from his traveling experiences, his sound has bloomed into an essentially versatile mosaic of sounds - deftly moving the cursor from hypnagogic dubs to hard-hitting club material, via downtempo electronica, easternmost-infused harmonics and weightlessly soulful hybrids spanning much more than traditional genres could encapsulate; evocative of broad visual expanses, from the vastness of desert scapes to the lush greenery of tropical jungles, and other dreamy interstates. In addition to his solo musical projects, Elninodiablo is also part of 3-piece improvisation collective TMDG (The Most Dangerous Gay), which quite finely sums up his approach to sound and its aura: “With TMDG it’s like standing on the edge of a cliff - I love the thrill of free improvisation, feeding off my bandmates and the crowd’s energy to create something new and unexpected. I take these experiences in the studio with me and aim at creating from a point of not knowing. That’s where the magic happens.” www.elninodiablo.com https://soundcloud.com/elninodiablo ̸SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY ShadowPlay EP Shadow Dancer (Remixes) - Perel, Queen Sudhara Dreamweaving EP Dorothea's Rainbow (Remixes) - Prins Thomas, Ray Mang, Perel, Elninodiablo Into The Great Unknown EP Lunchbox Candy / Let's Get Sleazy (Remixes) - The Emperor Machine, Each Other, Crate Classics, True Romantic, Elninodiablo https://elninodiablo.bandcamp.com

His leftfield mixes take the listener on a white-knuckle ride of twists and turns, with no genre, tempo, or mood off-limits. The Amsterdam-based artist made his ascension with some of Rotterdam’s finest imprints, all the while filling dance floors across the country and throughout Europe. His style fuses raw aesthetics with unrivaled, relentless energy which he translates into his productions as fluidly as his DJ sets. With a trademark sound that drifts between the experimental sides of techno, electro, acid, dub, and jungle, it was not long before his music gained the attention of Rotterdam-based labels. These outlets would become the platforms for his early releases which were recognized as instant hits in several charts and clubs throughout Europe and beyond. In 2020 he released his Nerve Deposit EP as part of Dekmantel’s UFO Series. This year he will return to Dekmantel’s imprint, this time with his debut album. • Inner City

The Detroit electronic music group Inner City, one of the most influential dance acts of all time, commemorating 30 Years! The story of Inner City is intractably linked with its founder Kevin Saunderson, widely created as one of the progenitors of techno and a landmark figure in dance music. But while it intertwines with his own career, the group’s longevity – spanning wildfire success, indelible club classics, a handful of full-length albums, and sales of over six million worldwide – is a result of multiple independent chapters over a remarkable 30 year run time. In 2017, with Kevin’s son and creative protégé Danitez as a new addition to the group, a new one is unfolding. The beginning of Inner City as a project came in 1987, one of many creative outlets that could be traced back to Saunderson. The music he was playing and producing in Detroit at the time, alongside fellow The Belleville Three members Juan Atkins and Derrick May, laid the path for what came to be known as Techno, and birthed an entire global culture to follow. Inspired by marathon sets by pioneering DJs Ron Hardy and Larry Levan, Saunderson set out to break from the strictures of Detroit techno’s tracky, dark machine funk by adding vocals to his productions. Work with contemporaries at the time had led to a unique sound based on colourful keyboard chords and snappy drums – and, crucially, a chance collaboration with Chicago vocalist Paris Grey (née Shanna Jackson). With Paris Grey’s soaring vocals atop the catchy tracks, a winning combination was found for Inner City. The marriage of Detroit techno’s propulsive, insistent rhythms and pop’s vibrant, melodic uplift proved a winner; it was neither too positive for the underground, nor too gritty for commercial success. With a defining sound in place, Inner City songs began to spring up on influential compilations chronicling early Detroit techno music and the material was heavily bootlegged, before seeing official release in 1988. What followed was a whirlwind: “Big Fun” and “Good Life” dominated not only clubs but the charts, sweeping top 10s all across Europe, and starting a run of four consecutive No1s on the US Billboard Dance Chart. Their enduring popularity in club and radio rotation continues to this day, standing out as top-tier classics in the pantheon of modern music. The act arrived just at the right time, with the door wide open for dancefloor-ready anthems – especially in the UK, where a new culture based around free-spirited dance music and warehouse parties was developing rapidly. Paradise, their debut album, went Platinum in the UK, setting in motion years of high demand on the live touring circuit, and spawning further hit singles such as “Ain’t Nobody Better,” “Do You Love What You Feel”, and 1992’s “Pennies From Heaven” – featuring Kevin’s wife at the time and musical partner throughout, Ann Saunderson. Standalone releases split between Saunderson’s own KMS and Virgin’s 10 Records imprint continued through the 90s, and a greatest hits collection followed in 2003, but through the 2000s the Inner City project largely lay dormant. Paused out of respect for Grey’s desire to raise a family, the Saundersons continued their careers elsewhere: in Kevin’s case, as a popular producer, DJ, promoter and label runner; in Ann’s, as a fêted vocalist, most notably on Octave One’s “Blackwater” smash. To the delight of fans, Inner City was revived in the early 2010s with gigs at key clubs and festivals worldwide, with both Paris Grey and Ann Saunderson taking dual vocal roles. New material was forthcoming, too: 2011’s “Fantasy”, 2014’s “Bad Girl” – featuring remixes from a then 21-year-old and fast rising Danitez Saunderson – and, most recently, “Good Luck” in 2017, with Danitez integrated as a full member of the group. And so to the present day, with over three decades in the game under their collective wing: with a renewed commitment to live performances featuring a strong family core, and two generations of Saunderson men in the studio, Inner City look set to enjoy the good life as much in 2017 as they did in 1987.

Jeff Mills, along with Robert Hood, Carl Craig, and Joey Beltram, is one of the biggest American names in techno. Championed for his music's relentless pursuit of hardness and his intense, almost industrial DJ sets (often utilizing three or four turntables or CD decks and a drum machine), Mills is one of the most significant figures in a long line of Detroit-bred talent to earn an international reputation. A founding member of noted Motor City institution Underground Resistance, Mills helped build the artist roster and label ideology (as well as much of its back catalog) with partners "Mad" Mike Banks and Robert "Noise" Hood during the late '80s and early '90s. ~ AllMusic

  • Kate NV

Kate NV is... ...the multifaceted solo persona of Moscow-based artist Kate Shilonosova. A changeling that follows afflatus in all its forms, NV is a student of architecture, illustrates curious, colorful characters, and improvises live with bells and water glasses amidst compact synthesizers and cables. Her debut Pink Jungle EP was followed by the frenetic pop-leaning Binasu released by Orange Milk in 2016 and the minimalist exploration of для FOR released by RVNG in 2018. As her musical pendulum swings back from playful instrumental to surreal song, NV is paired with RVNG for the second time on Room for the Moon. NV describes the songs of Moon, as dear friends; each piece of music is a moody cinematic moment where NV performs with a cast of off-kilter objects. Influenced by Japanese 80s pop and Russian conceptualism, Victor Pivovarov comes through when NV describes composing music. Imagine entering a cozy room that has boundaries but at the same time can contain an entire world. Celestial bodies party and time fits in a pocket. When composing, NV listens to her surroundings and daydreams while abstract electronics and enchanted songs visit. Recorded around Moscow with friends and collaborators, the music is a frothy distortion of nostalgic atmospheres cast in sax, base, marimba and MIDI. Singing is at the foreground-- beaming with assurance, delivered in multiple languages and characters. One gets the sense that NV as a performer has near infinite capacity to push further.

  • Lena Willikens

Amsterdam based DJ and Producer Lena Willikens. Resident at Salon Des Amateurs, Düsseldorf. Artist on Dekmantel Rec. Radio broadcaster of "Lightning Conductor" on NTS Radio. Lena Willikens doesn’t play the hits. When she’s behind the decks, even her biggest fans often have no idea exactly what she’s playing, and that’s part of the magic. Like all DJs, Willikens of course has a passion for records and is always on the hunt for elusive bits of music, but as an artist, her work doesn’t hinge on any one track or even a handful of tracks. She’s after something bigger, something that’s truly transportive for those on the dancefloor, and the tracks she plays – whether they’re bizarre slices of synth exploration, some ominously churning proto-industrial stomp, or something else that simply defies classification – are all parts of a larger, more psychically satisfying whole. These days, however, Willikens' radio adventures happen on NTS, where she pilots the monthly Lightning Conductor program. Now based in Amsterdam, her curatory prowess prompted an invite from Dekmantel to put together the fifth installment of their acclaimed Selectors compilation series, and she also contributed a track to the label’s run of all-star 10th anniversary EPs. As a remixer, she's been tapped in recent years to rework the likes of Lena Platonos, rRoxymore, S U R V I V E, Simian Mobile Disco, and Ana Helder, amongst others. And amidst all this activity, she's also been busy with Phantom Kino Ballett, a collaboration with artist Sarah Szczesny that lands somewhere between immersive audio-visual experience and performance art, allowing Willikens to indulge her transportive impulses in a completely new way. Nevertheless, it’s in the DJ booth where Willikens continues to make the biggest impact. As of late, she’s forged a particularly potent partnership with fellow sonic explorer and Salon des Amateurs alum Vladimir Ivkovic, the two engaging in a sort of mind meld that brings together their shared love of electronic music’s darkest and most bizarre corners. Marco Shuttle has always achieved a lot with a little, and that is the singular aesthetic that stands him apart. His cinematic techno sounds are unusually organic: they build pressure in subtle ways and his meticulous grooves never fail to take listeners on a trip to somewhere new and exciting. As a result of this, he has become a firm favourite amongst the techno cognoscenti and has released on some of the most revered labels of the day, from famed New York club The Bunker’s new label to Peter van Hoesen’s untouchable Time To Express via Clone SOS and his regular home, Eerie Records. Italian born but London based, where he also gained his MA in Fashion at St Martin’s. What ties his creative work together is a focus on abstract yet organic texture and the same thing defines his tightly woven DJ sets from fabric to Berghain to Labyrinth in Japan. ̸BIOGRAPHY Amsterdam based DJ, Knekelhuis label boss, 1/2 Volition Immanent. Whether he be busy blurring the lines of dance music as we know it via his genre-busting label, Knekelhuis, or fronting hybrid analogue-punk act Volition Immanent alongside longtime partner-in-crime Parrish Smith, Mark Knekelhuis is a man much rather attracted by the weird and the unknown than the stale comfort offered by formulaic recipes and self-imposed censorship. Actually, if there's one thing to make Mark tick as a musician and label curator, this has to be the unlimited firepower of dance music as a transgressive but unifying means of expression. Obviously a key component of Knekelhuis' ever elusive nature and steady success as a much versatile yet easily identifiable imprint, this shape shifting / hyper-dynamic approach is also at the very heart of Mark's wide-scope vision as a DJ and artist. Through intricately knit constructions that span the vastest musical spectrum - ranging from quirky techno to synth-pop, through electronics, wave and ambient, Mark engages his audience into an equally intimate and physical conversation in music, interrogating without answering, opening up without ever confining his sets within dogmatic aesthetic borders. Among his biggest influences def Theo Parrish, Coil, Cocteau Twins and The Cure should be mentioned. Driven by that strong sense of inclusion and eclecticism, sprinkled with touches of pastel-painted melancholy and wilder-than-wild flows of raw energy, Mark's craft sure isn't one to burn bridges; no, it builds bridges where cultural gaps divide, challenging ears and consciousnesses through vibrant collages, while turning the dance floor into a most welcoming shelter for supraliminal body-and-soul communion.

̸BIOGRAPHY The Disconnect rep plays her role in a range of scenes: vibrating darkened dance-floors with bass-heavy cuts; and a gentler touch to daytime slots with alluring, cross-genre provocations. A selector who is unafraid to both own and shift the script. Which character is next for shapeshifting MSJY? After dark, a two-piece yellow tracksuit looms over the decks, unleashing a frenzy of electric beats. When the sun is up, her gentler touch is at play: fusing unthinkable combinations of genre into alluring, deliberate provocations. Born from OOST club of north NL, the character of MSJY continually changes form. Taking early shapes in residencies with Noorderling, De School, Griessmuehle, and currently Oxi, she shifts to bill without compromising her sound and unafraid to provoke; her sets are characterised by pace, energy and a balancing of different moods. That balance is brought into force delicately; easing listeners across an expansive style. With craft the otherworldly is made club-ready. Foresight and cautious preparation enable her to glide between genres that would formerly seem nonsensical – opening up her sound to distant tones whilst maintaining respect for the dancefloor’s natural order. When the bass and darkness subside, her lighter daytime persona comes into being. Beneath the beats a conceptual side is unearthed. Unposed is her latest creation: a release series exploring the emotive nature of a club night's final hours. In her Jay-by-day radio slots this conceptual side is further summoned; brought to life in strongly thematic, cross-genre explorations. Take 1: Brain Dub - the deft interplay of IDM and dub music. Take 2: Trip Jazz - the delving of trip-hop into acid’s soul. Themes come to life in many takes – a shifting melange of iridescent shapes. Though the shapeshifting persona can be hard to pin down, her DJ sets are rarely off the mark: willing to unwind the norms and push the narrative. Each scene offers a fresh role for her to perform. A character who both owns and shifts the script.

  • Nelly (NL)

̸BIOGRAPHY Creativity is the tool Nelly uses to process, understand and cope with the world. She finds solace in forest walks as much as she does on darkened dance floors and losing herself in these moments allows her to reset, reflect and become re-inspired. When she is on the other side of the DJ booth, she is someone who distills dark musical forces into high energy sets rich in atmosphere and dense with emotion. Impactful hypnotism, explosive rave, stylish trance and growling machines all colour the airwaves and make for moments of true escapism and non-stop physical workouts. But there is another side to Nelly's sound: away from the club she threads fluid musical stories that draw on a wide array of genres. They explore the darker side of her psyche and are a form of therapy that can soothe and stir various different emotions and transform troubled mindsets. As Nelly's family was a part of the Indonesian diaspora that arrived in Rotterdam by boat after the Indonesian War of Independence, her storytelling audiovisual projects, mixtapes and photography draw on intergenerational trauma and how to deal with it. Early in her life, Nelly was surrounded by a wide array of music but properly began exploring electronic sounds when she moved to Rotterdam. Her favourite spaces to dance in were cosy and sweaty basements. By then, she already used to spend hours making mixtapes in her bedroom. A time spent studying in Stockholm gave her the chance to buy her first controller and properly explore DJing, then a job behind the counter at the legendary Clone record store back home furthered her passion for digging ever deeper. From the '90s rave and trance of Belgium's Bonzai Records to Paul Johnson's raw Chicago sound, Nelly's inspirations are united by realness and roughness that always makes you want to dance. "The dance floor has an enormous place in my heart," says Nelly. "It is the place where I can laugh and cry at the same time; a place where I can let all my emotions flow." The basement space Nelly loved so much was in BAR Rotterdam, which eventually closed. But it is now known as POING and Nelly had the honour of re-opening it after the lockdown with her first-ever DJ set. Since then she has played at places such as ADE, at Rotterdam's techno club Perron, and FIBER Festival where she played a mesmeric closing set with VJ Leeza Pritanchenko. During the pandemic, Nelly's sounds were broadcast far and wide with mixtapes for the likes of Dekmantel, Nous’klaer and Traumgarten. Now, though, she is back to the DJ booth and ready to take you on your next trip into the unknown.

  • Palms Trax

Palms Trax is a producer and Dj based in Berlin, Germany. His first record was released in October of 2013 on London-based imprint Lobster Theremin. For aspiring DJs and producers, or indeed anyone who appreciates a good story, the genesis of Palms Trax couldn’t have read any dreamier. You know the one; curious yet naive son of the English Riviera lands a job at one of London’s leading record stores and discovers the masters of Chicago house and Detroit techno. Later, stumbling around Berlin, his primitive attempts to emulate the sound of his newfound heroes accidentally land him a bona fide dance floor hit. A gradual but steady stream of EPs courtesy of Dutch dance music powerhouse Dekmantel have allowed his productions to blossom in richer, smoother directions. On 2015’s ‘In Gold’ EP, and throughout the following year’s ‘High Point on Low Ground’, halcyon hallmarks of house - euphoric piano lines, bubbling acid and luminescent keys - are shot through with Donaldson’s tough, distinctive percussion. It’s that same connection with Dekmantel that has encouraged Donaldson to quickly, impressively evolve as a DJ of some distinctive taste and talent. A memorable performance at Dekmantel’s flagship Amsterdam festival in 2015 captured open hearts, lost minds and aching feet. Since then, the sound of Palms Trax has been a fixture on their enormous main stage, drifting seamlessly between vintage house, esoteric disco and the various shades of a bubbling UK underground he has helped define. Occasional back-to-back performances with the likes of Hunee, Young Marco, Antal and Midland, all DJs regularly credited for their breadth of musical knowledge and sheer versatility, speak volumes for Donaldson’s DJing nous, which has lead him on an international trail; from South America to Australia, and from Panorama Bar to Concrete, Contact, De School, and Lux. Donaldson has also-amassed a patient, open-minded following with his cult monthly radio show, the decidedly less-than-culinary ‘Cooking with Palms Trax’, broadcast on Berlin Community Radio since 2015. On each show, Donaldson takes a deep, vinyl-led drive into his adopted history, fostering a level of trust and shared curiosity that has allowed him to helm all-night sets under the ‘Cooking with Palms Trax’ moniker. Into 2018, he’ll be holding down residencies in Boston, Glasgow and Bordeaux, as well as inviting like-minded DJs into his metaphorical kitchen, throughout a series of self-curated evenings into early mornings of music.

  • Phoebe (1)

̸BIOGRAPHY A necessary agitator in the city of Lisbon's underground, Bruno Trigo Gonçalves, aka Phoebe, has delivered some of the most urgent and desirable sonic infusions around today. Anyone who is, in fact, aware of what is being built on the clubbing circuit in Lisbon, away from the media attention, will hardly have not come across Phoebe. Whether as the founder of Troublemaker Records, at the helm of Rádio Quântica, as a programmer for the festivals Ano 0 and Rama em Flor, resident DJ at the mina or one of the pillars of Planeta Manas. In the midst of so much activity, it's almost a miracle that Phoebe manages, at the same time, to create a highly idiosyncratic musical journey, in permanent sound mutation, not letting himself be imprisoned by expectations of obeying a rigid stylistic scheme. The EP that now arrives from the hands of Discos Extends (joining a luxury catalogue composed of records by Diogo, Rabumazda, Luar Domatrix or V i L) has that urgency of someone who is always running in search of something, a light that illuminates bodies in the midst of the chaos of everyday life. “Sempre a Correr” follows the EP that Phoebe released in the summer of 2021 on Rotten \ Fresh, entitled “if i was simple in the mind, everything would be fine”, an authentic exercise in catharsis between the noisy sound walls of shoegaze and the rubble of ambient, without ever losing sight of the dance floor and the rave appeal. Since then, Phoebe hasn't stopped. At the end of 2021, he created the “Sweet Love Making” label with BLEID, through which the split “Love is patient, love is kind, love will make you lose your mind” (2021) came out, which included the songs “Marrazes” and “Causeway Bay”, authentic punches in the stomach from percussive polyrhythm. Throughout 2022 several themes were released that helped to map Phoebe's musical path, without ever seeing this puzzle completed (and thankfully): “Club Tool; “Down to Whatever;” “Estou Perdido”; and “K-LUBE 01/02”. Bruno Gonçalves, or Phoebe, will always continue to run, there is no doubt about that. The new album proves that unstoppable urgency that distinguishes him and his music ̸SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY Affection, Troublemaker Records; 2019 Living On Valued Time, Quantica; 2020 If I Was Simple Everything Would Be Fine, Rotten fresh; 2021 Sempre a Correr, Discos Extendes/Extended Records; 2022

In 2019, Russell was awarded the Traveling Scholars Fellowship from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts to continue their work with modular synthesizers at the Synthesizer Library’s Prague, Czech Republic location. They would utilize this time to create over 30 compositions, some of which have been featured on NYC label Mr. Saturday Night and pioneering Berlin techno outfit, Tresor. Most recently, in 2021, Russell has worked as a featured artist, digitally archiving records from the collection of House Music pioneer, Frankie Knuckles, as part an installation created by Theaster Gates in a group show curated by renowned writer and curator, Antwan Sargent, titled “Social Works”. They have also featured on a digital and vinyl compilation celebrating the 30th anniversary of pioneering Techno organization, Tresor. Russell also works professionally as a recording, mix, and mastering engineer, an educator, and a consultant for special audio projects and films. Russell loves to spend their time reading, connecting with friends and family, researching the latest in music technology, and cuddling with their cat SKRRT. ̸SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY God Is Change - Opal Tapes - 2015 The First Step - Black Opal - 2016 The Home I’d Build for Myself and All of My Friends - Left Hand Path - 2018 Constructions Vol 2 - Self Release - 2020 Blah Blah - Mr Saturday Night - 2020 Emotional Bangers Only Vol 1 and 2 - Self Release - 2020

  • RY X

Ry Cuming better known by his stage name RY X, is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician. The power of quietly intense, passionate music to pull audiences in to an intimate space is something this Australia-born, LA-based singer excels at. After the break-out success of his minimalist EP "Berlin," Ry notched up a string of sold-out shows across Europe, the US and Australia including both the Union Chapel and Shepherds Bush Empire in 2016 alone. Nurtured into shape over months of -- Ry says -- "hibernation" and "emotional sweat" in the mountains north of LA, Ry's debut album Dawn (2016) was a sublime study in devotional songcraft from a singer who seemed both awed by and in command of its elemental emotions. Ry honours and expands on his vision with his second album. Between its rippling beats, mellifluous guitars, poised piano and questing vocals, Unfurl does what its title suggests: develops as if organically from Ry's previous work, blossoming in delicate new directions while holding firm to its roots. "I think my mission statement was simply to remain vulnerable and to capture that within this album," says Ry. "The inspirations change each time, and I always want to allow that process to be free, to draw on new ideas and sounds and instrumentation. But what feels consistently important to me is keeping a sense of rawness and honesty in the work." That balance of integrity and outreach shows itself...

Style: Deep, dry & funky news and classics from House to Techno including Disco, Broken Beat, Afrobeat .... I started out in a bar called Drama in Kreuzberg, which has been an important hang out for the scene and one of the first bars ever to feature its own djs at the weekend. The Drama has been one of the few locations featuring house music, instead of techno dominating all the other clubs and bars at that time. I used to play a lot of soulful vocal house and quickly became a resident at Globus/Tresor, as well as at the gay Saturdays at Café Moskau. „My motivation is and has been a mixture of fun and communication. Verbally as well as non-verbally. I love to create and play with different moods and atmospheres. I’m still fascinated by the fact that music can release a huge amount of energy and how music creates fun, jollying anyone along without any reason or principle. Music and bass in particular can make people happy!“ Since 1997, when I have been a resident at Globus/Tresor, I gradually opened up stylistically and didn’t feel the need anymore to go along the lines of the techno and house division. Since 2001 I regularly played at the gay/lesbian „Dance with the Aliens“ parties at the old OstGut and consequently at the end of 2004 I became a resident at the new Panorama Bar / Berghain. In the meantime I developed a varied style ranging from new and classic House to Techno including a lot of Disco, Afrobeats..... It is fundamental to my work as a DJ that I manage to let the music, the crowd and myself run freely. I have to turn off my head and go with the flow. This always is the challenge and if it works it is big fun. The crowd and i have to get kind of cosy with each other. ̸BIOGRAPHY Producer and DJ from Lisbon, Portugal DJ, producer, boss of Naive records, co-founder of Rádio Quântica, and mina resident Violet has been shaking up Lisbon’s nightlife culture. Since moving back to Portugal in 2016, Violet’s talent for elegantly blending techno with breakbeats and acid basslines has been recognised. Inês Borges Coutinho, aka Violet, sees her role in the Lisbon underground far beyond making and mixing music, using her seemingly boundless energy to amplify other artists all the while progressing her own creative practice. Violet began producing records in 2012, and her output includes The Chain and River Styx EPs on One Eyed Jack’s. Based in London for a time, Coutinho returned to Portugal full of drive, which pushed her to start Naive and found online station Rádio Quântica, both in an effort to give a platform to marginalised artists. Her positive energy and openness began to attract the LGBTQ community, and she began working with mina, a collective that aims to bring ravers and DJs together with sexual and gender liberation causes. Mykki Blanco named Violet as one of the most influential DJs in the underground scene: “it became clear to me who was moving and shaking things up in this city…Violet represents to me the change I want to see in this world, which is powerful women running electronic music and beyond.” At Lisbon Pride, as a demonstration against the lack of representation for the trans community, Violet invited various trans artists to gatecrash her DJ set and occupy her platform. Since the release of Violet’s Togetherness EP, her label naive has staked its claim as one of underground dance music’s most exciting new labels. In 2018 came three critically acclaimed 12’’s from Violet and BLEID, Almaty’s Gennaro, and Octo Octa & Eris Drew. Walrus dj bookings & Basic Moves label showcases: hans at basicmoves.be Recently penned by Resident Advisor as “one of Belgium's most exciting locals”, Walrus is a quixotic DJ and producer hailing from Brussels that revels in idiosyncratic club music. His sets are carefully crafted assaults on what club music is often perceived to be. Walrus is not afraid to unbalance and dislocate his audience, confronting people with his definition of intent, groove and musical space, building up a quirky tension that is as serious as it is open-minded. He uses the power of imagination to hold back the night, to charm motorways and to surf on beta waves. His record label Basic Moves is an adventurous journey through the outer limits of house, techno and electro. Fresh or old tracks, current or unreleased gems, the Basic Moves imprint rephrases sounds and influences spanning multiple generations while keeping an outsider’s spirit at heart. Walrus spends his time away from the stage putting in hours of studio work, he used to help out the legendary Brussels record shop Dr. Vinyl and now takes care of the second hand section at Crevette Records, adhering to a relentless routine of searching for new, exciting music and last but not least, being involved in Fuse club Brussels. https://www.discogs.com/Walrus-Basic-Moves-01/release/9865310 https://www.discogs.com/Humandrone-Walrus-Rizing-Field-Silver-Gifts/release/8011956 http://www.discogs.com/Walrus-Club-Jonathan-ep-/release/6746384 http://www.discogs.com/Walrus-Spear-Thrower-Bucket-Ep-/release/7707237

  • Woody92

Woody92 is a visionary artist who’s musical craft runs parallel with a visual aesthetic resulting in very tangible outcomes. This highly expressive being draws influence from an array of external factors outside of music; subjects such as history, graphic design, the medieval era, the path of religion and the church all play a decisive role. He also keeps a tight circle of like-minded music heads many of which collectively shape the landscape of the Dutch underground scene. His story as an artist can be traced back to his hometown of Delft, a quiet part of the Netherlands with little musical identity but crucially neighbours with bigger brother The Hague. That being said Woody still caught glimpses of the psychadelic Techno, mystical ambient, free tribal tekno and push forward goa and psy-trance movements but locally it failed to rival that of the likes of Rotterdam & Amsterdam.....

  • Young Marco

Amsterdam based DJ and producer that also runs his Safe Trip label. There was a time when Marco Sterk a.k.a. Young Marco’s talents as a DJ and producer were among Amsterdam’s best-kept secrets. For well over a decade, he plied his trade, largely unheralded, on the city’s underground dance music scene. It was here, via several now infamous residencies, that he learnt his craft, gaining a reputation for ballsy, genre-defying eclecticism, playing sets that joined the dots between everything from tropical rhythms, afro gems and quirky Middle Eastern disco, to lost proto-house, throbbing techno and industrial-strength jack-tracks. These days, the Dutchman’s talents are widely known around the World. His position as a crate digger, record collector and infamous party-starter now guarantees a packed schedule of gigs in Europe, North America and beyond. His passion for working a dancefloor with “strange music” and “unclassics” is renowned, and it’s this that makes his sets so special. This humid, off-kilter obsession with the inspired and unusual has become a hallmark of Marco’s music, too. Once a key part of the Rush Hour family – the legendary Amsterdam label releasing a number of his early singles – in 2011 he made his debut on Lovefingers’ highly regarded ESP Institute label. His first two EPs for the label set out his now-trademark style, and won support from the likes of Dixon and James Murphy, amongst others, along the way. It’s perhaps unsurprising that a string of remix requests followed, leading to now classic reworks for the likes of Heatsick, Joakim, Francis Bebey and Soft Rocks. His 2013 remix of Tony G’s “Dreams”, a killer chunk of blissful new age deep house, became one of the most in-demand and sought after records of that year. At the tail end of 2015, the best of these remixes were gathered together on Sorry For The Late Reply, the first release on Marco’s freshly minted Safe Trip imprint. 2014 saw the release of his most accomplished studio work to date, the superb debut album Biology on ESP Institute. Wonderfully picturesque, melodious, humid and glassy-eyed, it received rave reviews and confirmed his status as one of electronic music’s truly unique voices. The same year also saw the release of Clouds, a magical collaborative fulllength written and produced in a weekend with Italian ambient pioneer Gigi Masin and British artist Jonny Nash. Credited to Gaussian Curve and released by Amsterdam’s Music From Memory label, it was the unfeasibly beautiful sound of three like-minded musicians working towards a shared goal. In 2017, Marco is as busy as ever. He’ll be hitting the road April onwards with Gaussian Curve for a handful of live dates around the world in support of their second album The Distance, while his contribution to Dekmantel’s series of crate-digging compilations, Selectors, is due to hit in March. His own label – Safe Trip – will be picking up steam with a string of releases that explore electronic music in many different directions. As usual, you’ll also find him spreading his love of weird, wonderful and eccentric music in basements, warehouses and clubs the world over.

̸BIOGRAPHY In Istanbul’s vivid electronic music scene trends come and go. Only a handful of properties remain, regardless of this rapid and constant change. Yeşim Unan is one of these rare phenomenons of the city, who keeps her groove steady for a long time. Starting to put together her musical library in the late 90’s, she soon became a sought after name in the growing dance music scene of the 2000’s. Adopting Juliewinters name at the early period of her career, she was not only a mainstay at the booths of the renowned clubs and festivals of the era, but also a creative force contributing to the scene as a graphic, stage and concept designer, event manager, editor, radio programmer and musical director. In 2008, Yeşim was chosen as Turkey’s participant to Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona. From there on she carved herself a distinguished style, while doing the nightshift at the iconic venues of the local scene like Pixie, Arka Oda, Wake Up Call, Suma Beach or Mama to name a few. Since 2017 Yeşim has been performing under the name Y.UNAN. Whether she bangs her renowned unique sound rooted to electro and techno at big stages like Sonar, Big Burn, Red Bull Music Festival, Tresor, ://about blank, Razzmatazz, or plays avant-garde dance sounds in more intimate venues, she always brings her personal approach of groove, feeding on concepts like time, space, and diversity. Early in 2022 they teamed up with Berlin based Nene H and introduced a Berlin-Istanbul collective to the scene called Sirän, to connect local and international communities, to organize gatherings for the marginalized creatives and lovers of the underground.

̸BIOGRAPHY yung_womb is a genre fluid DJ, selector, radio host and performer based in hamburg and founding member of the DJ network SLIC Unit. Influenced by the amounts of CDs her parents would buy to prepare their dance-classes, she would invent her own performances to an overload of different folkloric sounds from around the world, but also Hip-Hop, R&B and Merengue Hip-Rap of the 90s and 00s. So, it comes with no surprise that you can still hear in her selections, how heavily she is influenced by the way the tune makes her move. In her vinyl collection she has a broad range of styles she likes to play, focusing on 70s and 80s Jazz, contemporary Jazz and Jazz-Fusion, Funk, Organic Grooves and vintage -Salsa and -Caribbean music. She has hosted a monthly event at the Mojo Jazz Café in Hamburg and has played at events such as, Fluctoplasma, Feel.Jazz Festival and Reeperbahn Festival. • µ-Ziq

̸BIOGRAPHY Michael Paradinas (born 1971) records primarily under the name µ-Ziq (pronounced "music") in addition to a large number of aliases. He runs the british electronic label Planet Mu and first emerged on Rephlex in 1993 with the album 'Tango N'Vectif' and.. Mike Paradinas has become one of the very few artists working with electronics to produce a recognisable amd personalised sound while at the same time mixing far-reaching experimentalism with accessibility through infectious melodies and rhythms. Achieving healthy record sales and staying true to the pioneering spirit of the underground is no mean feat. Hailing from Raynes Park, South West London, Paradinas began operating under the name µ-Ziq whilst studying for a degree in Architecture at Kingston University in 1991. he eventually left before completing the course, partially due to a lack of interest, but more importantly to concentrate all efforts towards his music on a full time basis. Early recordingsfirst emerged on the Rephlex label with the now classic 'Tango N'Vectif' in 1993, followed a few months later by a second, 'Bluff Limbo' in 1994 - on it's initial promo run of 1000 copies, it rapidly gained a noteriety out of all proportion to it's availability, even entering the NME top 50 albums of that year. 'Tango...' meanwhile has gone on to sell in excess of 40,000 copies. In March 1995, Mike signed to Virgin and released the 'Salsa With Mesquite' ep and the album 'In Pine Effect' ("the difference is that where the Aphex Twin's topographical doodles suggest undiscovered, unpeopled planets, µ-ZIq's approach is a good deal more emotional, attempting to tap into the inner, surfing the soul... This is 'techno' elevated above the mere functionalism of the dancefloor, lighting fires in the heart and painting pictures for the mind's eye." - Melody Maker). This year also saw the genesis of 'Jake Slazenger', one of Mike's numerous pseudonyms with the acclaimed future-past casio jazz-funk of the 'Makesaracket' album on Clear. 1996 saw Paradinas join forces with Richard James for Aphex's one and only collaboration album 'Mike and Rich' on Rephlex; it was also the year that Mike signed to Warp for his second Jake Slazenger album and indie chart number 1: 'Das Ist Ein Groovy Beat, Ja'. May 1997 saw the release of 'Lunatic Harness', his third album proper, which saw µ-Ziq introducing more aspects of jungle style programming into his music (previously showcased on the 'Urmur Bile Trax' series). This time he was mixing elements of twisted hip hop, carnivalesque synths, toy-town world music and - what became known as - 'drill & bass' with his own inimitable style. Though he may incorporate these elements in his music, Mike never lets these influences smother a track entirely, instead mixing it all up into an end result that is both innovative and new. At 50,000 worldwide sales & counting, album of the week in both NME and Melody Maker, many others thought so too. 20 years ago Mike launched his own independent record label 'Planet Mu' releasing material by Venetian Snares, Remarc, Vex'd, Machinedrum, Kuedo & Jlin amongst many many others, including some of his own projects 'Kid Spatula' & the 'Slag Boom Van Loon' collaborations with Jochem Paap (aka Speedy J). Now over 350 releases old, Planet Mu has become one of the mainstays of the electronic music scene along with Ninjatune and Warp records, gaining more respect with every year that passes. In July '99 Mike released 'Royal Astronomy' on Virgin Records' 'Hut Recordings' subsiduary. Musically a sizeable shift from 'Lunatic Harness', the album focused more on his orchestral leanings (which were already present on 'In Pine Effect') and he was further inspired (as support act on her 1998 Homogenic tour) by Björk's use of live string sections in her shows. The album revealed a more poppy and melodic side to Paradinas than on previous occasions, while taking care not to discard any of the innovative programming and cutting edge beats that he'd become renowned for. The album was preceded by aa single 'The Fear', an infeciously haunting vocal track with pastoral strings underpinned by a Northern Soul mid-tempo shuffler rhythm, displayting the versatile nature of Paradinas' output. In 2003 Paradinas' Planet Mu label released one of their most successful records to date: 'Bilious Paths', Mike's 10th album as µ-Ziq. 12 tracks of hard cut-up breaks and electronics, distorted washes of melodic detrius and occasional serene ambience. Much of the album charted new territory for Paradinas, like the opening track 'Johnny Maastricht' which was inspired by the then new and emerging Garage sounds which would eventually coelesce into Dubstep and Grime, but with Mike's own trademark melodic sensibilities taking the place of the bass and the 'Grape Nut Beats' duo of tracks which mixed 6/8 gabber/tekno, old skool rave and nu-skool breaks to devestating effect. 'On/Off featured the vocal 'talents' of Ghostly's Mike Dykehouse (who has also released on Planet Mu) embellishing a dirty-bass electro anthem about panties. 'Bilious Paths' has gone on to sell over fifteen thousand copies worldwide. ̸SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY As µ-Ziq Albums Tango n' Vectif (1993) Bluff Limbo (1994) µ-Ziq Vs The Auteurs(1994) In Pine Effect (1995) Lunatic Harness (1997) Royal Astronomy (1999) Bilious Paths (2003) Duntisbourne Abbots Soulmate Devastation Technique (2007) Chewed Corners (2013) XTLP (2015) EPs Phi*1700 (U/V) (1994) Salsa with Mesquite (1995) Urmur Bile Trax Volume 1 & 2 (1997) My Little Beautiful (1997) Brace Yourself (1998) The Fear (1999) Ease Up (2005) XTEP (2013) Rediffusion (2014) As Tusken Raiders / Rude Ass Tinker Bantha Trax (1995) Bantha Trax Vol. 2 (1999) The Motorbike Track (1999) Imperial Break/Silk Ties (2001) As Jake Slazenger Makesaracket (1995) Megaphonk (1995) Nautilus (1996) Das Ist Ein Groovybeat, Ja (1996) Pewter Dragon (2006) As Kid Spatula Spatula Freak (1995) Full Sunken Breaks (2000) Meast (2004) As Gary Moscheles Shaped to Make Your Life Easier (1996) Collaborations Diesel M (with Marco Jerrentrup) M for Multiple (1993) Mike & Rich (with Richard D.
