̸BIOGRAPHY A Bermudian artist working in New York Pronouns: They/Them Russell Ellington Langston Butler is a Black artist from Bermuda, living and working in New York City. Russell has painstakingly cultivated a unique artistic expression that integrates and investigates themes around process, technological innovation, the archive, and decolonization. Their works have taken the form of vinyl records, digital audio releases, live A/V performances, and special archiving projects. Russell’s work has been featured in publications like the New Yorker, Resident Advisor, the East Bay Express, New York Dance Music zine Love Injection, and Bermuda’s national paper, The Royal Gazette. Their dynamic performances have helped them keep a busy tour scheduled, traveling as far and wide as Ukraine, France, Portugal, and the Netherlands to name a few. Through their work with modular synthesizers, Russell has been awarded grants and positions as a featured artist. In 2016, Russell began working with the Synthesizer Library in Portland, Oregon as an artist in residence. There they recorded, performed and held workshops for students. As an extension of this work, Russell’s expertise as an electronic musician was documented in the book Patch & Tweak by Kim Bjørn. This is an educational book about the development and implementation of modular synthesizers. In it Russell shares the intersections of their experiences as a Black, Queer, Trans immigrant in America and how that has informed their process as a musician. In 2019, Russell was awarded the Traveling Scholars Fellowship from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts to continue their work with modular synthesizers at the Synthesizer Library’s Prague, Czech Republic location. They would utilize this time to create over 30 compositions, some of which have been featured on NYC label Mr. Saturday Night and pioneering Berlin techno outfit, Tresor. Most recently, in 2021, Russell has worked as a featured artist, digitally archiving records from the collection of House Music pioneer, Frankie Knuckles, as part an installation created by Theaster Gates in a group show curated by renowned writer and curator, Antwan Sargent, titled “Social Works”. They have also featured on a digital and vinyl compilation celebrating the 30th anniversary of pioneering Techno organization, Tresor. Russell also works professionally as a recording, mix, and mastering engineer, an educator, and a consultant for special audio projects and films. Italian born Budino is one of these DJs, hers is a constant quest for fresh material to weave in her sets – sets that exist in clubbers minds as glorious psychedelic tapestries sewn from dark trance-inducing beats, tribal percussion and rich cosmic textures. Given this dedication and dexterity it’s unsurprising that praise is heaped so readily on Budino’s sets. After moving to Berlin and playing throughout the city since the age of eighteen, she was soon co-running the party series Oscillator at the now defunct and much lamented iconic club Griessmühle, along with its sister vinyl only label. She soon became a mainstay behind the decks at the infamous institution of queer hedonism that is Cocktail d’Amore and has since held a residency there for many years. With a diligence to seek out the perfect music for every moment, Budino has spent many years honing her craft creating unique edits that breathe versatility into the music she has dug deep to find. This often means when you hear her play, it may well be the only moment ever in which will you ever hear that version. However, a handful of these edits have seen the light of day on New York vinyl label JustWhatTheWorldNeeds. Budino has also been responsible for curating the fourth edition of Love International festival’s compilation series ‘The Sound of Love International’’. It reflects her interpretation of the ideal soundtrack for an endless and idyllic day into the night on the beaches of Tisno on the Adriatic coast, nodding to her comprehensive taste as a selector. Cali became recognized in New York City, before earning a searing reputation in Europe as an iconic, high-in-demand transfemme DJ with her signature over-the-shoulder purse.

From Utrecht, Carista is the DJ everyone wants to open for them. Self-taught, she bought her first pair of turntables at 19 and turned to YouTube tutorials. After winning a mixtape competition hosted by Rotterdam club BIRD in 2012, she landed a gig and subsequent residency at BIRD and other local clubs. Word started to travel about the charismatic selector, curator, and DJ. She went on to land herself a monthly radio show at Red Light Radio and NTS which got her noticed by a slew of festival programmers. She’s since made her debuts on Boiler Room and at festivals like Secretsundaze, Dekmantel, and ADE, where she opened for De School’s 62-hour party. Her sets are never predictable but always highly danceable. Through her NTS show United Identities, she hopes to continue to promote diversity and inclusivity in the club scene.

Based between Athens and London, Lee Adams is a multi-media artist, DJ and curator who has worked extensively with sound, film and visual installations, from re-scoring a lost David Toop soundscape for conceptual artist John Latham, to collaborating with noise violinist Mia Zabelka on the touring project Rotten Sun. Working under the name Choronzon he plays brutal, expansive and cinematic dj sets fusing elements of techno, noise, experimental electronics and body music for clubs, galleries and festivals across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. A well traveled person from having lived in Japan, Korea and the USA as a teenager Enyang emigrated to Berlin in her twenties to tap into a new scene and sound unique to the city. Since then she has been intimately involved in the experimental music scene having performed at CTM festival in January of 2021. Serendipity found Enyang in Berlin and it was this city that transformed her passion for music and took her on a new path, one which would expose her to some of the most cutting edge artists of the world. Having worked intimately with the releases of some of the most experimental artists of our time, Enyang’s own musical sensibility and need for experimentation aligns closely with the roster of her impressive clientele. Driven by a need to express the inherent beauty within the unusual, different or other she uses recordings of her own body’s movements and functions to create a unique sound palette. These recordings become the musical apparatus Enyang uses to compose her tracks. Through the digitisation of her body she is able to transform the sound of her pelvis into a baseline, quite literally making the core of her physical body the foundation of her musical form. In the same way the snapping of an ear become high hats, or an elbow becomes a textured sound hidden in the composition of the track. By metabolising the sounds of her body she is able to build these tracks organically, even through the use of modular synthesizers there remains an intimacy to the EP.

Yet it was the illegal rave scene in Stockholm that would prove to be most formative. The circuit of DJing and parties soon fed into the need to create a platform from which to work, and so the identity and label Evigt Mörker came into being in 2013. The first three releases cemented Evigt Mörker's ability to rouse melodic dynamics out of an ambient setting. Whether settling and fixating on a rhythmic pattern, or shuffling through different emotions, often these tracks would career into rapturous dancefloor pieces. It didn't take long until the formidable Semantica Records tapped him for a release, which produced the stunning EP, 'Helmet of Bones.' From this point, Evigt Mörker would come under the austere wing of Northern Electronics. Two terse yet incandescent EPs, along with a fourth release on his own label, have charged the air for his debut album, 'Krona'. Appearing on Northern Electronics, a brooding intensity defines the album, as well as a technical dexterity for carving dissonance into lush techno tools. New York-born DJ and Lot Radio resident Gabrielle Kwarteng is on a steady, slow-burning rise upward. Gabrielle Kwarteng’s journey so far is one of passion, dedication and the occasional strike of fate. Born and raised in New York, Kwarteng’s name has recently risen in prominence throughout a challenging time for dance music and club culture. Joined by a collection of Londons best resident DJs, Luke Solomon (Classic), Coco Cole (Universal Language), Eliza Rose (Rinse FM) and Hifi Sean. His second release on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy, Journeys In Love came out ijn September with a remix from Joe Goddard and the Super Drama boys. His first release on Phantasy Coarse came out in early 2019 with a remix from NYC mainstay Justin Cudmore with support from Sven Väth, Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers and DJ Boring. Releases are lined up for late this year and early 2020. His debut E.P. “Flux/Bang” was released on his own imprint in 2017 with early support from the Black Madonna, featuring it in her “New Names of 2017” mix featured on Pete Tongs show on Radio 1. Alongside this his bi monthly Rinse FM show has allowed Joshua to get some of his favourite producers and DJs as guests. Naive label boss Violet and DJ’s Magda and Eli Escobar have been a part of the diverse program. For the last 5 years Joshua has been resident at large for London based Savage alongside Jonjo Jury (Trash) and Luke Solomon (Classic Music Company) Savage is an underground queer party held weekly at East London strip club Metropolis . ̸BIOGRAPHY Lonnie Holley was born on February 10, 1950 in Birmingham, Alabama. From the age of five, Holley worked various jobs: picking up trash at a drive-in movie theatre, washing dishes, and cooking. He lived in a whiskey house, on the state fairgrounds, and in several foster homes. His early life was chaotic and Holley was never afforded the pleasure of a real childhood. Since 1979, Holley has devoted his life to the practice of improvisational creativity. His art and music, born out of struggle, hardship, but perhaps more importantly, out of furious curiosity and biological necessity, has manifested itself in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, performance, and sound. Holley’s sculptures are constructed from found materials in the oldest tradition of African American sculpture. Objects, already imbued with cultural and artistic metaphor, are combined into narrative sculptures that commemorate places, people, and events. His work is now in collections of major museums throughout the country, on permanent display in the United Nations, and been displayed in the White House Rose Garden. In January of 2014, Holley completed a one-month artist-in-residence with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in Captiva Island, Florida, site of the acclaimed artist’s studio. Holley did not start making and performing music in a studio nor does his creative process mirror that of the typical musician. His music and lyrics are improvised on the spot and morph and evolve with every event, concert, and recording. In Holley’s original art environment, he would construct and deconstruct his visual works, repurposing their elements for new pieces. This often led to the transfer of individual narratives into the new work creating a cumulative composite image that has depth and purpose beyond its original singular meaning. The layers of sound in Holley’s music, likewise, are the result of decades of evolving experimentation. Holley’s music caught the attention of Matt Arnett, whose father has been collecting Holley’s art since the 1980s. In 2006, Matt organized the first professional recordings of Holley’s music. In 2010, Arnett set up a performance by Holley at his home. One of the people in attendance was Lance Ledbetter, founder and owner of the record label Dust-to-Digital. Deeply moved by Holley’s keyboard playing and singing, Ledbetter signed Holley to his record label. Soon after, Holley found himself in the studio again, and in 2010 and 2011, more studio sessions ensued. The result was the album Just Before Music. More recordings continue to be made to celebrate and to document one of America’s most compelling musicians. In early 2014, Holley recorded again with Richard Swift, acclaimed musician and producer at his studio, National Freedom, in Cottage Grove, Oregon. In addition to the studio sessions, Holley began touring as a musician. In August and September of 2013, Holley toured the West Coast with Deerhunter. That tour was followed by a tour of the East Coast with Bill Callahan, and in November and December of 2013, Holley had his first tour through Western Europe (Spain, Portugal, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, The Netherlands, England, and France). That tour kicked off with a show at Queen Elizabeth Hall, as part of David Byrne’s Meltdown Festival. In addition to his European tour, Holley played shows at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Hammer Museum in LA, The American Folk Art Museum, St. James Hall in Vancouver, The Charleston Music Hall, among many others, but the majority of the year was not spent performing live. In 2015, Holley recorded music for the film Five Nights in Maine, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and saw theatrical release in the summer of 2016. An exhibition of his visual art opened in the summer of 2015, titled Something To Take My Place: The Art of Lonnie Holley, at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, accompanied by a monograph of the same name. In the winter of 2015/16, Supported By the Power: Lonnie Holley, an exhibition of Holley’s sculptures opened at Duke University’s John Hope Franklin Center. Lonnie Holley continues to make art, record music, and tour occasionally, either alone or with collaborators. The songs and the shows are never the same, as Holley never performs the same song twice. In the summer of 2016, he embarked on a tour throughout the Southeastern United States, this time with a full band of frequent collaborators that included Ben Sollee, Stevie Nistor, Kelly Pratt, and Marshall Ruffin. On the tour, the band visited artists, art sites, and museums, and held workshops for adults and children along the way. In late September, 2016, Holley’s music was sampled on the acclaimed third album (22, A Million) from Bon Iver. That same month, Holley was a featured visual artist at AfroPunk/Atlanta, where his found object sculptures were on display. In November of 2016, Holley embarked on his fourth European tour, playing a number of festivals and music venues, culminating in a sold-out, two-night residency at the acclaimed Café Oto in London. He returned to the States in time for the premiere of the short documentary about Holley, The Man is the Music, at Doc NYC in New York. Holley closed out 2016 with his final show of the year at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, sharing the stage with Bon Iver. 2017 was also a busy year for the artist. In January, an exhibition of his art, Lonnie Holley: I Snuck Off the Slave Ship, opened at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. In May, an exhibition entitled Thumbs Up for the Mothership (a two-artist show with Dawn DeDeaux) premiered at MASS MoCA, coinciding with the opening of the new Building 6. They are a founding member of XenoEntities Network, Berlin, and host of Transience, a monthly show on Cashmere Radio, Berlin. Perpetually obsessed with proving the futility of binaries, Lou Drago is drawn to the spaces between analogue and synthesised sounds. In their sets Lou Drago aims to provide a space for contemplation and introspection, offering a pause from the anxiety of neoliberalism through ambient, strange and relaxing sounds. They aim to summon imagery of speculative queer and postgendered futurities through evoking sci-fi, space, drone and other ambiences. Drago hosts a monthly show on Cashmere Radio based in Berlin called Transience, each time inviting a different artist to respond to their concept to create an hour of anxiety relief from hetero-patriarchial systems of oppression.

Olof has been involved in different cultural projects where music plays a central role in communicating political beliefs. Starting djing around 98' at local school parties, he ran his first club in high school and has been djing since. He started out playing Disco, House, Garage, and Drum n' bass playing more Hip Hop and R&B in the early 2000's. Following this was a long period of playing harder Techno and House, including EBM and Shranz. The last decade has seen him playing mostly throughout Europe when he's not too busy producing music in his Berlin studio. A regular DJ on the London club circuit and queer scene, notable appearances include playing London's The Cause on NYE, popular techno party Night Service, headlining the Big Dyke Energy stage at Body Movements Festival and their night at Venue MOT, as well as filming a livestream for Beatport as part of the Rising Stars series curated by Maya Jane Coles where she racked up over 20k viewers live on Twitch. Raised in Germany with Colombian and Chilean roots, they are well-acquainted with the act and mindset of mixing (tracks, attitudes, languages) and keeping one’s back to another’s back. After acquiring an MA Fashion Curation, from the London College of Fashion, Wright enjoyed an active career in fashion in New York City. That is where he met Andrew Butler, founder of Hercules and Love Affair, and began a whirlwind collaboration with the ensemble as a vocalist. Inês Borges Coutinho, aka Violet, sees her role in the Lisbon underground far beyond making and mixing music, using her seemingly boundless energy to amplify other artists all the while progressing her own creative practice. Amsterdam based DJ and producer that also runs his Safe Trip label. There was a time when Marco Sterk a.k.a. Young Marco’s talents as a DJ and producer were among Amsterdam’s best-kept secrets. For well over a decade, he plied his trade, largely unheralded, on the city’s underground dance music scene. It was here, via several now infamous residencies, that he learnt his craft, gaining a reputation for ballsy, genre-defying eclecticism, playing sets that joined the dots between everything from tropical rhythms, afro gems and quirky Middle Eastern disco, to lost proto-house, throbbing techno and industrial-strength jack-tracks. These days, the Dutchman’s talents are widely known around the World. His position as a crate digger, record collector and infamous party-starter now guarantees a packed schedule of gigs in Europe, North America and beyond. His passion for working a dancefloor with “strange music” and “unclassics” is renowned, and it’s this that makes his sets so special. This humid, off-kilter obsession with the inspired and unusual has become a hallmark of Marco’s music, too. Once a key part of the Rush Hour family – the legendary Amsterdam label releasing a number of his early singles – in 2011 he made his debut on Lovefingers’ highly regarded ESP Institute label. His first two EPs for the label set out his now-trademark style, and won support from the likes of Dixon and James Murphy, amongst others, along the way. It’s perhaps unsurprising that a string of remix requests followed, leading to now classic reworks for the likes of Heatsick, Joakim, Francis Bebey and Soft Rocks. His 2013 remix of Tony G’s “Dreams”, a killer chunk of blissful new age deep house, became one of the most in-demand and sought after records of that year. At the tail end of 2015, the best of these remixes were gathered together on Sorry For The Late Reply, the first release on Marco’s freshly minted Safe Trip imprint. 2014 saw the release of his most accomplished studio work to date, the superb debut album Biology on ESP Institute. Wonderfully picturesque, melodious, humid and glassy-eyed, it received rave reviews and confirmed his status as one of electronic music’s truly unique voices. The same year also saw the release of Clouds, a magical collaborative fulllength written and produced in a weekend with Italian ambient pioneer Gigi Masin and British artist Jonny Nash. Credited to Gaussian Curve and released by Amsterdam’s Music From Memory label, it was the unfeasibly beautiful sound of three like-minded musicians working towards a shared goal. In 2017, Marco is as busy as ever. He’ll be hitting the road April onwards with Gaussian Curve for a handful of live dates around the world in support of their second album The Distance, while his contribution to Dekmantel’s series of crate-digging compilations, Selectors, is due to hit in March. His own label – Safe Trip – will be picking up steam with a string of releases that explore electronic music in many different directions. As usual, you’ll also find him spreading his love of weird, wonderful and eccentric music in basements, warehouses and clubs the world over.

̸BIOGRAPHY In Istanbul’s vivid electronic music scene trends come and go. Only a handful of properties remain, regardless of this rapid and constant change. Yeşim Unan is one of these rare phenomenons of the city, who keeps her groove steady for a long time. Starting to put together her musical library in the late 90’s, she soon became a sought after name in the growing dance music scene of the 2000’s. Adopting Juliewinters name at the early period of her career, she was not only a mainstay at the booths of the renowned clubs and festivals of the era, but also a creative force contributing to the scene as a graphic, stage and concept designer, event manager, editor, radio programmer and musical director. In 2008, Yeşim was chosen as Turkey’s participant to Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona. From there on she carved herself a distinguished style, while doing the nightshift at the iconic venues of the local scene like Pixie, Arka Oda, Wake Up Call, Suma Beach or Mama to name a few. Since 2017 Yeşim has been performing under the name Y.UNAN. Whether she bangs her renowned unique sound rooted to electro and techno at big stages like Sonar, Big Burn, Red Bull Music Festival, Tresor, ://about blank, Razzmatazz, or plays avant-garde dance sounds in more intimate venues, she always brings her personal approach of groove, feeding on concepts like time, space, and diversity. Early in 2022 they teamed up with Berlin based Nene H and introduced a Berlin-Istanbul collective to the scene called Sirän, to connect local and international communities, to organize gatherings for the marginalized creatives and lovers of the underground.

̸BIOGRAPHY yung_womb is a genre fluid DJ, selector, radio host and performer based in hamburg and founding member of the DJ network SLIC Unit. Influenced by the amounts of CDs her parents would buy to prepare their dance-classes, she would invent her own performances to an overload of different folkloric sounds from around the world, but also Hip-Hop, R&B and Merengue Hip-Rap of the 90s and 00s. So, it comes with no surprise that you can still hear in her selections, how heavily she is influenced by the way the tune makes her move. In her vinyl collection she has a broad range of styles she likes to play, focusing on 70s and 80s Jazz, contemporary Jazz and Jazz-Fusion, Funk, Organic Grooves and vintage -Salsa and -Caribbean music. She has hosted a monthly event at the Mojo Jazz Café in Hamburg and has played at events such as, Fluctoplasma, Feel.Jazz Festival and Reeperbahn Festival. In addition she has supported live acts such as Kassa Overall (US), Alfa Mist (UK) and Mildlife (AUS). Via her club sets she plays us with Baile Funk, Latin Bass, Afrobeats, Perreo, Kuduro, Gqom, DrumCore, Dancehall, Jersey Club and Ballroom mercilessly but lovingly against the wall, challenging all our senses with the sweaty and divers sounds of the diaspora. It's difficult not to get sucked in by her joy - constantly helping us to reconnect our minds with our culos - which you might have experienced at clubs such as Übel&Gefährlich, AEDEN, Golden Pudel Club, OHM, Odonien, Südpol, Mensch Meier or Kampnagel and at festivals such as Fusion, Nation of Godwana, Zugvögel, SNNT, Vogelball and much more. Currently she is co-hosting a monthly show for [sic]nal Radio and foundation.fm and has been invited to play at radio shows like halfmoon BK, Radio8000, HÖR Berlin, Reform Radio and many more.

̸BIOGRAPHY Technology, Aliens, Detroit Hailing from the Rust Belt suburbs of Detroit, Chris Macom, aka Zen Zero, began his music journey through love of computers. Soon he was experimenting with building computers, exploring audio programs, and connecting random home audio equipment to his PC. Chris had early exposure to hip-hop and dance music from neighborhood friends, and DJs on local Detroit radio shows that would draw him to DJing as a teenager. Coming of age in the burgeoning Detroit rave scene of the late-90s, Chris was exposed to underground house and techno. Playing house parties, dances, and graduations allowed him to hone his DJ skills and nuances of playing for a crowd. Hours on his computer were spent learning the bare bones of audio production, and burning bootleg CDs of DJ mixes to fund his ever growing record collection. After high school, Chris started a record label and makeshift studio with a tight knit group of friends in a dilapidated ice cream truck warehouse. “Hodges” as it became known, was the home base for a stream of parties, a record label, and hours spent in the studio. Here, Chris learned proper recording and mixing from a close friend and business partner. At the same time, Chirs found himself playing an ever expanding amount of DJ gigs around Detroit, as well as serving as a DJ and hype man for local hip hop emcees. With the Detroit rave scene taking a pause in the early 2000s,Chris and his longtime friend started the first Detroit Techno blog and podcast to fill the void and keep themselves sane. During a dry period in Detroit party culture, they used this format to promote events around the city, promote new releases/artists, and interviewed increasingly bigger DJs. At one point it was one of the Top 10 Techno blogs in the world, featuring DJs such as the Detroit Techno Militia crew, Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale, and Dave Clarke. Eventually, being allowed Press access to the Movement festival allowed them to network further in the electronic music community. From here, Chris’s DJ career took off, and you could find him playing at Detroit dance clubs like TV Lounge, The Works, Grasshopper Underground, as well as Ann Arbor's famous Necto Lounge, playing with DJ’s T-1000, Delano Smith, Araab Muzik, Jay Daniel, Monty Luke, Todd Osborn, Tadd Mullinex, DJ Holographic, DJ Minx, and Norm Talley. Recently, Chris formed 5th DImension Detroit with some like minded DJs that encompasses a record label, series of parties, and a crew of DJs. 5th Dimension has thrown parties at Detroit hotspots like Marble Bar, Tangent Gallery, The High Dive, and The Magic Stick, as well as pop up events in Detroit’s Eastern Market and on the Riverfront. Chris has shared the stage with artists like Scan 7, Maceo Plex, Luke Hess, Boo Williams, Hiroko Yamamura, Derrick Carter, Dez Andres, Derek Plaislaiko, and Justin Cudmore. The 5th Dimension label has released Chris’s biggest track to date “Aliens In My Room”, getting international play and featured on the HATE youtube channel. They also recently released “Traveler’s Compilation”, reaching #1 album release on Beatport in the Techno Raw/Deep/Hypnotic genre, with his single “Next Train to Neptune” reaching respectively at #9 in the genre. Chris is currently in the Studio working on his next album and music video that he hopes will take him to an even higher level. As his name implies, he tries to traverse the Techno landscape with Zen and Stoic philosophies in an attempt to live clear minded and do what comes natural. It seems as though she produces her releases in the way someone scoring a television series does, gathering and arranging their selections for each episode … isolating and apprehending definitive scenes and memorializing their ethos in song. Soundtracks, much like her release “Antifate”, guide the listener through radically different emotional states, yet somehow still offer an idea of what underpins a show's (or in this case an album's) particular hues. Ziúr produces music within such a scope, expansive, rich and diverse in texture. The sounds are simultaneously machinistic and deeply anthropomorphic, toying with mechanical isolation and the chaotic spectrum of human emotion.
