about
Maya Jane Coles is a highly productive producer, songwriter, and DJ from London. Throughout her career, she has crafted intricate, personality-driven tech-house tracks in addition to dubstep and garage (primarily as Nocturnal Sunshine). First appearing with a series of well-received club EPs in 2008, her releases since 2010's Humming Bird EP have increasingly focused on her vocals and songwriting skills. Comfort, her 2013 debut full-length, effortlessly blended downbeat house and pop, and her 2017 double album Take Flight contained one disc focusing on downtempo songs, and another on club tracks. 2019's Full Circle (as Nocturnal Sunshine) branched out further, incorporating trap and drum'n'bass. ~ AllMusic

  • Bachelors Of Science

With their own productions, the Bachelors continue to defy those that try to categorize them into a genre. From the deep liquid drum n bass inspired by their hometown of London and the likes of High Contrast and LTJ Bukem to the minimal inspired Autonomic sounds of dBridge and sun-drenched 4/4 grooves, the Bachelors have retained their quality and a large and loyal following throughout, garnering plays from Annie Mac, Basement Jaxx, LTJ Bukem, Giles Peterson, T.E.E.D., High Contrast, Loxy, Doc Scott, DJ Hype, Reid Speed, Alix Perez, Grooverider and DJ Marky. to name a few. Their unique blend of soulful sounds, deep beats and technical precision has been hailed as "a refreshing musical approach to drum n bass", picking up rave reviews in Mixmag, XLR8A, Knowledge Magazine and more. Their debut album "Science Fiction" released in 2008 to critical and commercial acclaim, became one of the top selling drum n bass albums of all time, with "Song For Lovers" and "The Ice Dance" becoming liquid drum n bass anthems and the Apex remix of "Strings Track" eventually winning "Best Drum n Bass Track" at the 2009 Beatport Awards. More recent remixes of Justin Martin, Groove Armada, The XX, Home Video, Death Cab For Cutie, Groove Armada and Seasick Steve have won praise across the music blogoshpere, placing them atop the Hype Machine chart for weeks in a row. On stage, the tales of the “full Bachelors Of Science set” are the stuff of legend, taking them across the globe to perform at Love Parade, Ministry of Sound, Hospitality, BBC Radio, I Love This City festival (Live Nation), WMC, Burning Man and more, performing alongside acts as diverse as Pendulum, LTJ Bukem, High Contrast, Kode9, Photek, Netsky, Mala, SPY, Justin Martin and even Elvis Costello, the guys take a crowd on a journey with everything from BoS originals and bootlegs to custom edits of cutting edge tracks and past future classics … making d&b guys admit they’ve got a soft spot for 4/4, and house lovin girls admit they miss drum n bass.

  • Black Coffee

Considering his meteoric rise to fame, it would be easy to stereotype Black Coffee as just another black diamond, a BEE beat magnet out to mine the insatiable upwardly mobile urban house-party market. But as he proved on his South African Music Award-winning album Home Brewed, this DJ and producer defies convention. Sidestepping Afro-house clichés and stage-managed highs in favour of restrained sophistication, Black Coffee’s penchant is for true Afropolitan house: home-brewed but trendsetting, fashion-conscious and future-focused. Expect almost sculptural balance and beauty.

  • CARLITA

That feeling of discovering a new song and falling in love with it. That feeling of digging around aimlessly and coming across a record you've been looking for for ages. That feeling that the pieces of a set fit together and the story you are trying to tell connects on the dance floor. It's for feelings like these that Carlita wakes up every morning eager to get her hands on the decks. Born in Istanbul and classically trained, our protagonist became interested in club culture while studying in Boston and wanted to get into the booth to create musical journeys of her own, where genres merge into interrelated sounds and Carlita's diverse background shines through in all its multi-faceted splendour.

  • Claude VonStroke

Claude VonStroke created a small underground record label called Dirtybird in 2005 and grew it into a full-fledged events, clothing and music brand over the last 15 years. During this time, he has also managed to release 4 artist albums and some of the most iconic house music tracks of the last two decades. Most people know Claude VonStroke for his smiling DJ persona touring every major city, festival, and basement after-party around the world. But Claude has also influenced the very fabric of the dance community, A&Ring an impeccable roster of acts like Justin Martin, Fisher, Shiba San, Catz n Dogz, Riva Starr, Tim Green, Breach, Eats Everything, Walker & Royce, Shadow Child, and countless others. It’s tough to say more about DJ Dan than what is most likely known by just about any dance music fan that has ever taken interest in the genre. Just take a look at what some other legends have said: “Dan is a pivotal ingredient to live DJing and production, a real teacher to all."-DJ Sneak. "The thing I love about Dan is that he's always had a funky spirit and he always pushes the elements of music."-Carl Cox.

  • Eats Everything

Bristol, England DJ and producer Eats Everything started out spinning jungle and drum'n'bass. Over the years, the man born Daniel Pearce incorporated more bass-loaded house into his repertoire, crafting a party-starting sound the likes of Carl Cox. His non-stop party started in 2011 with his debut track, "Entrance Song" (Pets Records), a heartier and richer version of Disclosure's deep house. The Eats Everything EP followed on Dirtybird, and Pearce, preferring performing over studio time, continued with a series of consistent releases over the following years. A slew of honors helped move along his exposure, notably a few essential mixes for Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 show, as well as the DJ Mag award for Best British DJ in 2012. In addition to filling dancefloors, he also left his mark on works by Adam F, Jamie Jones, X-Press 2, Four Tet, Skream, Sinead Harnett, and Disclosure. ~ AllMusic

Greg Jones is the artist behind the enigmatic G JONES moniker. A lauded master of electronic music production and highly sought after performer, G JONES is a collaborator of legendary artists such as Amon Tobin, Eprom, and DJ Shadow, who called Jones “the most gifted Ableton beatmaker I’ve ever seen.” Rolling Stone touted him as a “studio wizard.” Billboard Magazine had this to say about his album’s first single, UNDERSTANDING THE POSSIBILITY: "That’s what listening to G Jones will do. It’s a mental minefield of sudden drops and stutters, bass lines that open holes under your feet and send you shooting sideways to some warped mystery land."

  • Jubilee

Jubilee has been staying up all night since as long as anyone can remember. She grew up in South Florida on the sounds of Miami bass, freestyle and Dirty South rap blasting from local radio stations like Power 96 and 99 Jamz. As a teen, she traveled to raves up and down the coast, absorbing Florida's uniquely regional palette of breaks, electro and drum 'n' bass. By the time she moved to New York City and started frequenting drum 'n' bass parties like Direct Drive and Konkrete Jungle, D&B was already becoming a gateway drug to a love of other UK underground styles such as grime, garage, dubstep and UK funky. You can hear the influence of all this music on Jubilee's debut album, 2016's After Hours – soaked in 808s and 909s, fog machines and laser rays, and containing a huge hit in the form of "Wine Up," a bubblin' bashment cut featuring Bronx dancehall sensation HoodCelebrityy...

  • Little Simz

Simbiatu “Simbi” Abisola Abiola Ajikawo says it herself when she puts on her superheroine mask and goes by the name of Little Simz: “I’m Jay-Z on a bad day, Shakespeare on my worst days”. And on that pernicious Venom that pollutes GREY Area from the very core, she concludes that some people will never acknowledge her as the best just because she’s got ovaries. Those who have recognised her worth get a mention: Jay-Z, Mr Lamar and the woman who knows all about being a woman, black and furious, Lauryn Hill. And let’s not forget the Mercury Prize judges who nominated her for her third LP. Not bad, huh?

Born Yassine Ben Achour in Tunisia, he began his career in the early '90s as a rap MC/DJ named Dice'C. In time he switched from rap to house music and changed his name to Loco Dice in the process. He in turn secured a residency at the Düsseldorf club Tribehouse, where he met superstar producer/DJ Timo Maas, who signed him to his Four:Twenty Recordings label. ~ AllMusic

  • Mira

Mira is that rare kind of DJ whose music can immediately transport you into her world - a midnight circus in Berlin, where time loses all definition and anything becomes possible. Born in East Germany to a renowned photographer and a classical musician, she began DJing in 1996 and quickly became part of the growing underground techno scene around Leipzig and Halle/Saale. Her dedication to her craft and natural talent swiftly paid off with a series of rapid successes, leading her to substantially shape the electronic music scene of Eastern Germany from that point on. In 2006, Mira moved to Berlin, Europe’s capital of electronic music, where she found her musical home at the legendary Bar25. Situated on the banks of the river Spree with parties that lasted into the middle of the week, Bar25 was the embodiment of Berlin’s club scene in the 2000s. In the company of notable artists such as Nu, Acid Pauli, Feathered Sun and Christopher Schwarzwälder, a musical language was being formed that looked past the minimal trends of the time towards a more nuanced, organic musical language.

  • Monolink

Singer-songwriter and electronic music producer. To many that might sound like two very different aspects of modern sound culture - which in turn makes Monolink a fascinating character, because he's both rolled into one. His style seamlessly connects the narrative structure of a song with the compelling forward thrust of electronic rhythms. Guitar chords merge into synthetic pad sounds, hypnotic bass vibrations meet emotional vocal parts, passionate physicality meets sublime stimulation for the mind.

  • Paul Woolford

Special Request is the new rugged alias for house and techno stalwart Paul Woolford. Inspired by the unruly conventions of UK pirate radio stations, this project captures the raw energy and diversity of the illegal airwaves and uses this as a springboard of inspiration for a series of heavyweight productions that span from the murky house through dark side techno to chaotic eye-of-the-storm hardcore/jungle tear-outs. The end results are incendiary.

  • Skream

London-based producer/DJ Skream (Ollie Jones) played a vital role in the development and popularity of dubstep during the 2000s. Following early collaborations with fellow genre pioneers Benga and Loefah, he released one of dubstep's most easily recognizable tracks, "Midnight Request Line," in 2005. His tracks and remixes helped shift the genre from being a darker, more minimalist form of club music to something more melodic and accessible, paving the way for its mainstream popularity by the beginning of the 2010s. Skream's biggest commercial success was his involvement as part of dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man (with Benga and Artwork), whose self-titled debut album reached number one on the U.K. dance chart. However, while primarily associated with dubstep, Skream has never limited himself to one genre, and much of his work since the mid-2010s has explored house and techno. ~ AllMusic
