Burning Man is a network of people inspired by the values reflected in the Ten Principles and united in the pursuit of a more creative and connected existence in the world. Throughout the year we work to build Black Rock City, home of the largest annual Burning Man gathering, and nurture the distinctive culture emerging from that experience. Burning Man Project will bring experiences to people in grand, awe-inspiring and joyful ways that lift the human spirit, address social problems, and inspire a sense of culture, community, and civic engagement. Burning Man provides infrastructural tools and frameworks to support local communities in applying the Ten Principles through six interconnected program areas, including Arts, Civic Involvement, Culture, Education, Philosophical Center, and Social Enterprise.
🎨 ART THEME: METAMORPHOSES
Alchemists have long sought to master the art of metamorphosis through esoteric means, transmuting base metals to gold and breathing life into the inanimate, thereby hoping to achieve transcendence over the material world and challenge the dominion of gods and kings. This year’s theme is an invitation to explore new forms of alchemy, reliant not on some elusive Philosopher’s Stone but on the limitless powers of the heart.

👬 PARTICIPATION
People who go to Burning Man are no mere “attendees” but rather active participants in every sense of the word: They create the city, the interaction, the art, the performance and ultimately the experience. Participation is at the very core of Burning Man, and there are many ways to participate, such as create an art installation, volunteering, be inspired, shoot your own participation video and more!

Carpooling is an ideal way for getting to the playa with friends — or meeting a new friend on the way. Also, you’ll help to reduce traffic, air pollution, and limit our over-use of fossil fuels. 1️⃣. Radical Inclusion: Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.
2️⃣. Gifting: The value of a gift is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value.
3️⃣. Decommodification: We stand ready to protect our culture from such exploitation. We resist the substitution of consumption for participatory experience.
4️⃣. Radical Self-reliance: encourages the individual to discover, exercise and rely on his or her inner resources.
5️⃣. Radical Self-expression: It is offered as a gift to others. In this spirit, the giver should respect the rights and liberties of the recipient.
6️⃣. Communal Effort: Produce, promote and protect social networks, public spaces, works of art, and methods of communication that support such interaction.
7️⃣. Civic Responsibility: Community members who organize events should assume responsibility for public welfare and endeavor to communicate civic responsibilities to participants.
8️⃣. Leaving No Trace: Clean up after ourselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them.
9️⃣. Participation: Transformative change, whether in the individual or in society, can occur only through the medium of deeply personal participation.
