Amidst all the closures of print magazines and online sites, we just got another glimpse of hope with the launch of LiFTED, a digital magazine that is set to be the world’s first ever site dedicated to hip hop music in Asia. While there are many hip hop zines dedicated to the growing subculture, there hasn’t been a strong voice for the Asian hip hop community. 

Gracing the first-ever cover of the magazine is none-other than Chinese-American rapper Bohan Phoenix. The rapper has been key in bridging the East and West hip hop scene, with regular tours in China, New York and LA, and represents exactly what LiFTED is all about – bridging the East-West swagger in a timeless style that doesn’t chase trends.

Managing Editor Marcus Aurelius added, "As a working DJ and writer based in Asia for over two decades, I’ve been able to watch this scene grow and grow. What it always lacked was a great publication to cover it. I’m sure we’ve created that now!"

The core editorial team is based out of Taiwan and Hong Kong, where they cover anything and everything hip hop.  Besides hip hop music and R&B tunes, the digital magazine will also cover all other aspects of hip hop culture including DJing, street art, breakdancing, and graffiti artists in the surrounding regions.

The announcement comes at a time where a lot of other media companies are also making major cutbacks because of the pandemic. b2 Holdings, who are also the publishers of dance culture bible Mixmag Asia, is positive that this publication is what the music industry needs to shine the spotlight on artists especially during these tough times with live events, tours and travel on hold indefinitely.
