We’re kicking off the first session of Electric Soul Radio with a guest mix from female music maverick Ocean Lam, a DJ producer based in Hong Kong.

Ocean Lam is well-known on the local DJ circuit here in Hong Kong, recognisable both on stage and behind the scenes. Built over a decade of passion and honing her art, Ocean Lam’s sound is a hypnotic mix of electro, minimal techno and deep house vibes with the occasional wisps of declinate vocals instils a sense of trippy happiness that just gets your feet moving to the beat. While you might miss her Hypnotic nights now that clubs in Hong Kong haven’t been open for nearly a year due to the COVID-19 lockdown, this mix will get you grooving to the light-hearted beats.

Ocean Lam has taken it on herself to grow and expand the underground scene, working tirelessly to lead the local music revolution. When not on the decks, you can find her booking DJs as the Music Director at Social Room to bring attention to upcoming talents and international names. She’s hosted the likes of Tobias., Azimute, Basic Soul Unit, Oskar Offermann, Hiver, and Lock Eyes – just to name a few. Through her Hynoptic podcasts that eventually became a recurring weekly party at Social Room, Ocean Lam exposes her audiences through collaborations and invited artists.

Initially inspired by DJing, Ocean has also made the transition to producing her own music, having released tracks with Typhoon 8 Records, Moteur Ville Musique, and Biotop Label. Her first EP “The Same Boat” was released in April last year with Biotop, which is a collab with fellow artist Fresh Funky S and remixed by Patrick Zigon. A few months later in July, Ocean dropped “Auditory Touch” with Detroit techno label Moteur Ville Musique, which received a lot of support and remixes from the likes of Joal and Eduardo De La Calle.

In an alternate reality without COVID, Ocean is a mainstay on the festival circuit, especially at European festivals in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland like Melt! Festival and Feel Festival. Closer to home, Ocean Lam has played at Sonar Hong Kong where she also took on a double role booking DJs for the Dome stage, as well as making appearances at techno and underground music festivals in the region like Wonderfruit, EPIZODE, and Equation.
