We’ve brought you the ladies of the past and present who have been and are currently crucial to the electronic music scene. Now, it’s time to turn the spotlight to the rising stars. In part three of our Femme EDM: Women of Electronic Music series, we’re introducing some ladies that we see making major headlines in the near future. They are young, motivated, and bring raw creative talent that sets them apart from the herd. We see big things in these ladies’ futures.

Blanca Ross

For the past few years, Blanca Ross has been making waves in the Spanish electronic circuit, holding a past residency at the world-famous Opium Barcelona, and more recently at City Hall Barcelona. Her feature on the country’s biggest radio station MaximaFM (now Los40 Dance) opened many doors for her and showed Spain the truly emotional, energetic, and sensual electronic and techno she so capably produces. She has certainly taken Spain by storm, cultivating a hefty fan base, but we see 2020 as the year Blanca captivates the rest of the world.

Giolì & Assia

The Italian couple, Giolì & Assia, have certainly proved themselves to be a dynamic duo. A classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Giolì began her career gracing many stages both locally and internationally before meeting Assia and forming a manager/artist partnership. Fast forward a few years, the duo has solidified a musical partnership releasing several singles, Giolì playing any and all instruments (cello, handpan, piano, drums) and Assia tackling the lead vocals and guitar. Together, the couple has created a unique blend of indie, techno, house, electro, and pop. Best known on social media for their breath-taking videos of live performances, #DiesisLive, in exotic and remote locations, the ladies have proved their creativity and talent is unmeasurable. They recently created their own label Diesis Records and are committed to showcasing talents that link classic, modern, and house sounds.

ONYVAA

Recently presented with the Newcomer award by DJ Awards in Ibiza, the Paris-based California native, DJ, producer, and label owner ONYVAA  has certainly proved herself a perfect fit for this list. Within her techno tracks, you’ll find major Detroit and early 90s warehouse techno influences seamlessly intertwined with vintage vinyl sounds, heavy drums, and original field recordings she has collected from around the world. Through her personal label Passeport Records, she has given herself the autonomy to release music that is uniquely hers. In her short career, she has performed on many illustrious stages and at festivals alongside other industry heavy hitters including Charlotte de Witte and Ellen Allien.

SHERELLE

High BPMs and low frequencies are signature SHERELLE. The London, UK native DJ and radio host’s name is on everyone’s lips these days. She’s been on the London circuit for a bit now, but it was her climatic Boiler Room set that really got people talking. Her face-melting, ultra-fast paced, underground style mashes jungle, bass, footwork, and juke is notorious for getting a crowd going. Host of her own radio show Reprezent, she’s been joined by the likes of Om-Unit, Kode9, and Fracture. Her mixes have also been featured on BBC Radio 1, Noisey, and Resident Advisor, she was nominated as best breakthrough DJ by MixMag, and recently, she landed a residency at BBC Radio 1 where she’s killing everyone with her hyperactive mixes.

Terr

Daniela Caldellas, a.k.a. Terr, grew up in the southern part of Brazil playing in punk bands and listening to grunge. Intrigued by the world’s growing interest in electronic music, she took lessons from a friend to make what she called ‘computer music’. Fast forward a few years, she’s producing groovy and futuristic disco electro-pop accented by her own breathy vocals. In the past she toured around as the duo, Digitaria, with best friend Daniel Watts before going it on her own. She has since released a few singles on various labels and most recently on London’s Phantasy Sound. The former duo, plus friend Shall Ocin, also started up their own label, Clash Lion, through which she has released single “Dust”.

Peach

Before 2019, Peach was working a regular 9-5 desk job. The Toronto-native relocated to London to get on top of her music and has she ever. Named number 2 on MixMag’s 10 breakthrough DJs in 2018 (alongside Fisher and Virgil Abloh!), big things were predicted for Peach. She’s since gone on to host her own show, Snacktime, and a monthly radio show for NTS. The talented selector has proved her knowledge of techno, disco, house, and electro in countless clubs, raves, and over radio waves. But, her first-ever released track, “Silky”, demonstrates her talents as a producer as well. It’s dancey, futuristic, and has us excited for what’s to come.

C.Frim

C.Frim is new to the Melbourne scene but that doesn’t make her any less capable of tearing up the dancefloors. Her new(ish) popularity has been rightfully earned through her seamless blending of genres. Electro, rap, hard drum, and Spanish and Afro-inspired beats can all be heard during a set and it works so well. For now, she’s been keeping it local, playing Melbourne clubs, but we predict that won’t be the case for long.

RayRay

It’s been a steady climb to the top for RayRay, but we think she’s just about to peak. The Taipei native won Red Bull’s Thre3style DJ Competition in Taiwan back in 2013 and began making waves within the Asian circuit. She’s since picked up traction worldwide, playing ADE, Glastonbury, and Sonar (to name a few). She started by spinning hip-hop and her style has since evolved to include an amalgamation of drumstep, EDM, tech house, and Miami bass. Since joining Yellow Claw’s Barong Label, her style has matured. Her EPs Purple Alien and Alien Invasion have shown the world how very capable she is of producing otherworldly tracks guaranteed to make you dance.
