Electric Soul’s Brian Hioe spoke to Demuja about remixing “Real High Key” on The Stay EP from Life on Planets. 

Brian Hioe:  What was exciting for you about remixing “Real High Key”? What did you try to take from the original and what did you try to do differently?

Demuja:  Remixing for me is always pretty exciting, as I love the challenge to create something new out of already existing material (maybe that’s because of my background as a hip hop producer as well, with all the sampling). For this remix, I took the vocals and parts of the melody.

BH:  How has the past year been for you during COVID? Are things starting to get back to normal in terms of playing shows and touring? I’m particularly interested in that the track was described as trying to capture the feeling of live music?

D:  Yea, things are going back to almost normal right now, clubs opening, festivals are happening. Of course, its still a bit different, with all the testing etc, but I’m more than happy to have the chance to tour again, play music in front of people, and feel their energy. My “Real High Key” remix is made for that as well, clubs and festivals, people dancing and sweating 

BH:  Could you talk a bit about your preferred gear for production? What do you view as the essentials?

D:  As DAW I’ve used Logic. I’ve chopped up the samples in my Maschine, which I resampled again in Logic. The track was made almost completely digitally, I only used a Korf Prologue for some effects on the background. The rest are some Vsts, like the U-He Repro for Bass. 

BH:  What would you have to say to readers, particularly from Asia?

D:  I hope to see you all on the dance floor soon, I’ve plans to tour Asia again next year, which I REALLY hope will take place (I love Asia). Keep it up & stay healthy! ☺
