Electronic music is much more than club nights and flashy light visuals, and ‘Music, Makers & Machines’ chronologizes the legacy of electronic music.

This free online exhibition hosted on Google’s Arts & Culture platform goes beyond recreating the club experience, with dedicated pages to the technical side of studios and behind the decks, a hallmark of fame with to highlight breakout songs and genre-breaking music, and one more that is a crash course into electronic music. Immerse yourself in over 200 mini-exhibitions, 360-degree tours, and 13,000 over archived photos and videos down the rabbit hole of history.

It may be awhile before we can return to the dance floors and congregate in front of the stage, you can now explore the iconic sounds from the streets and cities online. 

Highlight exhibits include a a collection of iconic rave flyers by The Musuem of Youth Culture, ‘A Brief History of Early Dubstep’ as told by photographer and artist Georgina Cook, ‘Blacktronika’ exploring Black innovators in electronic music, ‘How Grine Took Over the UK’, dive into the history of video game music from classics like Super Mario Bros in ‘Composing Classics’, or immerse yourself in the ‘The Art Of Soundscaping’. There’s even an exhibit dedicated to the often underappreciated ‘Importance of Nightclub Design’, which makes a huge subtle difference to the clubbing experience.

Partnering with over 50 members of the electronic music community including museums, festivals, industry experts and pioneers, the exhibition is shaped through many years of history into the community that we know today.
