He got influenced by a lot of different types of music over the last years, which made his productions pretty various. Some tracks stutter and thump with cybernetic power; others flutter and glide in poignant shades of blurring colour. It’s a fragmented, low-frequency meltdown, evocative shimmers of light emanating from the cracks. Sometimes what you're listening to is suddenly scraped off and wiped away, leaving only silence as you blink in disbelief. With a deep understanding of tension and release - essential for thrills and head-spins - McCarthy has been a fundamental force in the continuing output of the pioneering label collective Hessle Audio since his 2014 debut. Since its inception, McCarthy has been also a close affiliate of the Timedance label, where he’s continued to expand his sound, along with Livity Sound and Hemlock. McCarthy’s hyperactive and surreal humour allows him to recreate the process of converting experimental abstraction into exhilarating energy when he’s performing as a DJ. She soon became a mainstay behind the decks at the infamous institution of queer hedonism that is Cocktail d’Amore and has since held a residency there for many years. With a diligence to seek out the perfect music for every moment, Budino has spent many years honing her craft creating unique edits that breathe versatility into the music she has dug deep to find. This often means when you hear her play, it may well be the only moment ever in which will you ever hear that version. However, a handful of these edits have seen the light of day on New York vinyl label JustWhatTheWorldNeeds. Budino has also been responsible for curating the fourth edition of Love International festival’s compilation series ‘The Sound of Love International’’. It reflects her interpretation of the ideal soundtrack for an endless and idyllic day into the night on the beaches of Tisno on the Adriatic coast, nodding to her comprehensive taste as a selector. With her enthusiasm, devotion and impeccable ear for music, Budino continues to go from strength to strength as a DJ and has plenty more of her passion to share with dance floors around the world.

Displaying a large variation in terms of sound and method across many new releases each year — some of which come on his co-owned label Spazio Disponibile — he also puts out installations for public spaces and museums, uses obscure musical instruments, collaborates with likeminded producers, classical singers or visual artists. The Russian-born Tel Aviv native Marina Rubinstein (the honorific is strictly cosmetic) moved to Berlin in 2012, shortly after beginning to spin, and swiftly became one of the sharpest party d.j.s anywhere. A Dr. Rubinstein set is easy to recognize—it’s both stark and raucous, festooned with vintage-Roland TB-303 acid synth lines and an unforced bonhomie that’s rare in techno. She remains a committed dancer: “If I’m not playing, you won’t ever find me in a d.j. booth,” she recently said.

Step forward Elena Colombi, a DJ and radio host whose inspired sets are not only open-minded and mind-altering, but also seek to toy with the emotions of listeners and dancers via shifts in intensity, tone, light and shadow. Her distinctive approach is truly unique, in part thanks to a widescreen grasp of different musical cultures, sounds and rhythms, born out of travelling the world with her family from a young age. This nomadic approach is something that Colombi still embraces. After ten years living in London and making her mark in the city’s electronic music underground and a brief relocation to Brussels, the artist is now based in Amsterdam, where she can be found contributing to the vital local scene whilst focusing on her new label, Osàre! Editions. Launched in the summer of 2019, the imprint was inspired by the Italian translation of ‘daring’ or ‘bold’. In keeping with Colombi’s approach to DJing, the label will provide a home for future-facing music shot through with forward-thinking experimentation and abandon, and imbued with a sense of complete freedom, transcending expectations of time or genre. This approach is a neat fit with her musical style, which taps into a wide range of influences and inspirations old and new. Since she began her journey through DJ culture, the Italian artist has prioritised energy and emotion over form and function, paying particular attention to obscure and undiscovered artists. As well as documenting her far-reaching taste via her monthly NTS shows, Elena has contributed outstanding mixes for FACT and Crack Magazine, Beats In Space, Intergalactic FM, Digital Tsunami and Dekmantel, where she also took part in a live discussion with John Talabot on the Art of DJing, a panel that was recorded by Resident Advisor and later broadcast as part of the RA Exchange podcast series. On the festival circuit she’s made appearances at Dekmantel, Club To Club, Nuits Sonores, ADE, Unsound and more, together with an annual residency for the boutique UK festival Field Maneuvers and a quarterly curated night at Belgrade’s Club Drugstore. Her outsider-led approach also gained recognition from the established art world, going back-to-back with homegrown Manchester legend Jon K at the Whitworth Art Gallery (a feat repeated at Atonal in Berlin), as well as bringing her selections to the Tate Modern in London for the Tate Lates series. Converging his club and DJing background with music production techniques Born on the beautiful but restless island of Cyprus, an environmentally idyllic place scarred by years of war, Stephanos Pantelas alias Elninodiablo began his journey in music collecting vinyl he would play on the airwaves of pirate radio stations. Though an inspirational crossroads of culture, Cyprus also proved to be rather unwelcoming towards LGBTQIA individuals, which soon prompted Stephanos to make the move to the ever effervescing city of London, whose electronic scene was booming in the mid-90s. From small bills to top-of-the-range discos, his DJing skills soon earnt him a resident position in the booth of some of the hottest gay clubs of the time, including Turnmills, Fabric and Heaven. Joining forces with Alan X, El Nino Diablo soon tried his hand at the art of remixing with outstanding contributions for Grammy-nominated Mexican band Kinky and British soul singer Mica Paris. New York-born DJ and Lot Radio resident Gabrielle Kwarteng is on a steady, slow-burning rise upward. Her guest shows won her a Mixcloud Online Radio Award and a regular slot, which garnered her a loyal following and led to bookings across NY and beyond. Gabrielle Kwarteng’s journey so far is one of passion, dedication and the occasional strike of fate. Born and raised in New York, Kwarteng’s name has recently risen in prominence throughout a challenging time for dance music and club culture. A DJ, radio host and curator, her sets have recently enchanted Panorama Bar in Berlin (four times in less than twelve months, no less), equally vital club spaces such as NYC’s Nowadays and Manchester’s own White Hotel, as well as a span of festivals including Love International, Glastonbury, Melt and Dekmantel Selectors. Listening to Kwarteng, whether in a cavernous rave hall, a sweat-soaked underground club or making intimate selections on the radio, is an experience that feels at once familiar but always energizing. Kwarteng’s diverse taste and open-mindedness lead first, allowing her to fluidly slip through a mix of heady 80s and 90s NY house, disco interpretations that traverse diaspora and eras, percussive passages alongside boldly broken beats and, as the lights get lower, an undeniable acid undercurrent. First, from sciences to arts, where, at an esteemed upstate New York university, her dedication to trawling music blogs rendered Kwarteng the de facto DJ for house parties. She also began broadcasting on college radio; her daybreak show was a particular hit with professors arriving to work early to mark before lectures. Bouncing back to New York, Kwarteng continued to present a show on the burgeoning online radio station The Lot. In 2017, she was presented with the Mixcloud Online Radio Award for Best Eclectic Show, an early and completely unexpected acknowledgement of an instinct for music that traversed genre expectations. In parallel, Kwarteng played each and every Saturday night in the majestic ballroom of the SoHo Grand, amassing vinyl for a residency that helped define the uptown musical scene with her own downtown sensibilities. Now based in Europe, Kwarteng continues to criss-cross not only genres, but continents. Overcoming her inherent introversion to nervously approach Giles Peterson at a record store in Paris proved fortuitous; so impressed was the storied DJ by Kwarteng’s show on local station Le Mellotron, he invited her to appear at his own festival, Worldwide. ̸BIOGRAPHY Istanbul Ghetto Club is a music-driven multidisciplinary collective, combining delightful Anatolian, Greek and Mesopotamian tunes with modular synthesizer and performing arts, always with a sense of humor and an erotic touch. One night Kamil was working in a Pavyon in Istanbul. Pavyons are live music bars in which traditional Turkish folk music is played, usually with the bağlama. Men come to Pavyons to swim in different oceans. While Kamil was playing Bağlama, Mahmut came into the bar. With his outward appearance, his lighter skin color, he didn't seem to fit in. Actually Mahmut just wanted to ask for directions, but then, because people started looking at him strangely, he felt offended. He thought to himself, "I live here too, why can't I come to this bar and have fun like everyone else?” Somehow Mahmut and some of the other guests started to discuss. It had started to escalate more and more, and Kamil saw how people had started to push him. So Kamil stopped playing and ran to help him. The crowd was so heated up that they started hitting Kamil and Mahmut. In the end, they threw both of them out of the bar. Kamil's Bağlama was destroyed and Mahmut's nose was broken. To cool down, they went to have some Çorba. At the restaurant, Mahmut told Kamil that he makes electronic music. Mariachiara Troianiello, the Milan-based sound artist behind the moniker Katatonic Silentio, works at the crossroads of electronic music, performing arts and sound studies. Both as a live performer and an independent researcher, she seeks to bridge different spheres and approaches to sonic production. Active as a DJ for more than 15 years, her sets adopt multiple forms, fluctuating between an analogue past and a technological, fast-paced future. At times, her sets focus on pure abstraction, consisting of ethereal soundscapes that seek to transcend the tangible through a mix of musique concrète, world, spoken word, ambient or dub. At others, they come across as concrete and club-oriented, crossing techno, broken beats or drum n bass. Mariachiara views sound as a critical tool and has a genuine interest in exploring sonic possibilities and practices from both artistic and sociological perspectives. As an independent researcher, she is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of USMARADIO: Interdepartmental Research Centre for Radiophonic Studies at the University of San Marino. In her undergraduate thesis in 2015, Mariachiara looked at the different notions of radio and broadcasting between underground and mainstream and the multiple performative possibilities of the medium itself – a topic she currently puts into practice through her project Expanded Radio Research Unit. As of now, she holds radio residencies on EOS and LYL. Mariachiara also collaborates with Anonima/Luci, a light art collective with whom she develops installations that reconfigure architectural spaces by combining light and sound. Their dynamic performances have helped them keep a busy tour scheduled, traveling as far and wide as Ukraine, France, Portugal, and the Netherlands to name a few. In 2016, Russell began working with the Synthesizer Library in Portland, Oregon as an artist in residence. There they recorded, performed and held workshops for students. As an extension of this work, Russell’s expertise as an electronic musician was documented in the book Patch & Tweak by Kim Bjørn. This is an educational book about the development and implementation of modular synthesizers. In it Russell shares the intersections of their experiences as a Black, Queer, Trans immigrant in America and how that has informed their process as a musician. In 2019, Russell was awarded the Traveling Scholars Fellowship from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts to continue their work with modular synthesizers at the Synthesizer Library’s Prague, Czech Republic location. Inspired to begin producing music,he released his first original track in 2006 entitled,"smashing pumpkin", on the compilation CD of "EDEN". Together with some of the most talented DJs in the Tokyo scene, he then launched a new party called WEEKEND WARRIORZ in 2008. In 2009 he won the club party competition "RED BULL NIGHTMASTER" as EDEN. Subsequently,in November of the same year,he also participated in the DJ Contest organized by Parties4Peace called "PATAGONICA" as an individual, winning the championship and a trip to play music in Patagonia, Chile. This led him to experience a two-week South American tour in Chile from February to March 2010. Since then, he continues to collaborate with Parties4Peace between Tokyo and NY.

I’m still fascinated by the fact that music can release a huge amount of energy and how music creates fun, jollying anyone along without any reason or principle. Since the early 2000's she's been working on numerous influential TV and radio music programs. For years she was recognized as the face of Exit festival and since 2006 she has an international performing career which started with an exciting collaboration with New York house legend Abe Duque. Traxx is a lover of music — one with a passion so intense that it overcomes genre divides to weave an altogether original, exciting, and multi-textured musical fabric which envelops both the avid clubber and the home listener, as well as everyone in between. Not content to be labeled as merely a DJ, a producer, or even a DJ/Producer, Traxx is a self-described “artist of sound.” A sound that is distinctive and highly emotional which defies classification and invites analysis and discussion. From eclectic and avant-garde tunes to old school jack tracks and far beyond, Traxx hears it all without discrimination, pretension or elitism. Traxx has released music on numerous underground labels in the US and Europe including Gigolo, Relief, Muzique, M/O/S, and Crème. His music has come to the world under a bucket load of alias' including Dirty Criminals, XX Art, Mysterio, ViLLan X, Saturn V(with Tadd Mullinix), X2, and more. He's also collaborated with the heads of underground to shape his unique definition of Jakbeat that's was created amongst JTC and D'Marc Cantu in the early years between 2005- 2007. In addition to releasing music for other imprints Traxx also started his own label Nation in April of 2007 which has allowed him to develop and recontextualize the various aspects of his sound. In 2009 Traxx stepped out into the light with his first full length 'Faith' album under his own name for his Chicago based imprint Nation which received positive response and feedback from around the globe. Like many in Chicago, Traxx was drawn into house music through the legendary WBMX radio shows and two trips to see Ron Hardy at the legendary Music Box. Describing his first experience with house, Traxx recalls "nothing could compare, things were being discovered.. this period stays with me because of the intense energy that was applied - it's a feeling, an emotion, a mental state of transcendental connection -a spiritual force with the higher being through the physical vessel of the body." His first release appeared on DJ Hell's Gigolo label in the early 00's under the collective alias The Dirty Criminals which was a Chicago based collective that featured mainly the work of working with collaborators like Charles Manier, Mystic Bill Torres, Daryl 'Deecoy' Cura, Matt Nee(Kompute), Josh Werner, Stephen Hitchell plus early on work from Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being. In addition to a number of 12"s Dirty Criminals released, two albums were very well received in Europe - 2004's "Organized Confuzion" and 2006's Collision Between Us And The Damned" which featured a cover of an early unreleased version of "Acid Tracks" by Phuture that was played around Chicago. Traxx also contributed vocals to the track "Let No Man Jack" on Hell's "NY Muscle" album on Gigolo but it's perhaps on his many mysterious 12"s that Traxx has set the ground work for in the last seven years where there's been a constant stream of them burning up dance floors with the new sound of Jakbeat that's shaping the scene by releasing an 'Adjustment Production' for Gavin Russom of DFA's LCD Soundsystem from 1 of his current alias projects as Mutant Beat Dance for a sombre tingling cosmic, deep disco brilliance concept, and also releasing with New York label Rong Records with another excellent 2 track release of 'Another World/New News Is Old News' to releasing a stunning solo project on MOS Deep Under The Poetic Painter M pseudonym, with a frenetic yet hypnotizing house track that echoes memories of downpitched Newbeat material and the hooky coldness of new age, following thru with incredible support and feedback in 2012 then again with another solid production from analog machinists Traxx and Wanzer for another Mutant Beat Dance release for the Rush Hour label with 'Let Me Go' featuring Naughty Wood on vocals that have said that they produced arguably 'the best 80s Chicago house record NOT made in the 80s. -inspired by the early days of house music- In an age of digital perfection Traxx is analog, when he DJs he plays vinyl and when he's in the studio he uses hardware. In 1999, he returned to his birth country, Taiwan. With the master plan to bring the best of electronic dance music to his homeland, he created Noise Records, one of the most respected record stores in Taiwan, selling vinyl records he handpicked from European and North American record labels. He also the leader of the Noiz party crew and promote underground rave and clubbing culture. In 2010, DJ Twisted Jack moved to Shanghai, China and held a position as the resident DJ and events coordinator at Lost Haven. He was also invited to join the Five Spices International DJ Team from Holland. Her sets are always unique and unpredictable, with the strong favor towards 90’s and 2000’s flavors, mixture of broken and straight beats, classical acid basslines and groovy sounds. Being a front-row dancer herself, she knows that the journey is what is always needed through the night – and when performing, always putting the dancefloors through the metamorphosis of layers, textures, and kicks. Her rising career list already includes an impressive international festival list, such as Brave! Since moving back to Portugal in 2016, Violet’s talent for elegantly blending techno with breakbeats and acid basslines has been recognised. Inês Borges Coutinho, aka Violet, sees her role in the Lisbon underground far beyond making and mixing music, using her seemingly boundless energy to amplify other artists all the while progressing her own creative practice. Violet began producing records in 2012, and her output includes The Chain and River Styx EPs on One Eyed Jack’s. Based in London for a time, Coutinho returned to Portugal full of drive, which pushed her to start Naive and found online station Rádio Quântica, both in an effort to give a platform to marginalised artists. Her positive energy and openness began to attract the LGBTQ community, and she began working with mina, a collective that aims to bring ravers and DJs together with sexual and gender liberation causes. Mykki Blanco named Violet as one of the most influential DJs in the underground scene: “it became clear to me who was moving and shaking things up in this city…Violet represents to me the change I want to see in this world, which is powerful women running electronic music and beyond.” At Lisbon Pride, as a demonstration against the lack of representation for the trans community, Violet invited various trans artists to gatecrash her DJ set and occupy her platform. ̸BIOGRAPHY In Istanbul’s vivid electronic music scene trends come and go. Only a handful of properties remain, regardless of this rapid and constant change. Yeşim Unan is one of these rare phenomenons of the city, who keeps her groove steady for a long time. Starting to put together her musical library in the late 90’s, she soon became a sought after name in the growing dance music scene of the 2000’s. Adopting Juliewinters name at the early period of her career, she was not only a mainstay at the booths of the renowned clubs and festivals of the era, but also a creative force contributing to the scene as a graphic, stage and concept designer, event manager, editor, radio programmer and musical director. In 2008, Yeşim was chosen as Turkey’s participant to Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona. From there on she carved herself a distinguished style, while doing the nightshift at the iconic venues of the local scene like Pixie, Arka Oda, Wake Up Call, Suma Beach or Mama to name a few. Influenced by the amounts of CDs her parents would buy to prepare their dance-classes, she would invent her own performances to an overload of different folkloric sounds from around the world, but also Hip-Hop, R&B and Merengue Hip-Rap of the 90s and 00s. So, it comes with no surprise that you can still hear in her selections, how heavily she is influenced by the way the tune makes her move. In her vinyl collection she has a broad range of styles she likes to play, focusing on 70s and 80s Jazz, contemporary Jazz and Jazz-Fusion, Funk, Organic Grooves and vintage -Salsa and -Caribbean music. She has hosted a monthly event at the Mojo Jazz Café in Hamburg and has played at events such as, Fluctoplasma, Feel.Jazz Festival and Reeperbahn Festival. In addition she has supported live acts such as Kassa Overall (US), Alfa Mist (UK) and Mildlife (AUS). Via her club sets she plays us with Baile Funk, Latin Bass, Afrobeats, Perreo, Kuduro, Gqom, DrumCore, Dancehall, Jersey Club and Ballroom mercilessly but lovingly against the wall, challenging all our senses with the sweaty and divers sounds of the diaspora. Melodies and sounds inherited from her home country - Morocco- completes her soundscape in a way that is her own. During her DJ sets she invites the public on a captivating journey from light to darkness, an oscillation between joy and melancholy sometimes punctuated by oriental melodies. Written and produced between Berlin and London, LESS IS MOOR features guest appearances by Shygirl and S. Ruston, with a myriad of star co-producers such as Sega Bodega, Tony Quattro, and fellow Red Bull Music Academy graduate, Torus. Amidst all this talent, there’s rarely a down moment on the album. Together, these tracks capture sides of Zebra Katz the world has yet to see and reveal his artistic versatility. His multiple inspirations are channelled into a series of high-energy bangers, all of which required years of collaboration to complete, a DIY attitude, and a commitment to a high concept without excess production. Recent singles “IN IN IN” and “LOUSY” are examples of Zebra Katz’ desire to repossess his narrative, exploring issues like the Black experience and sexuality, all the while mixing in devastating ruminations on the life of a star: “they all love when you dead / and you six underground.” LESS IS MOOR will have listeners on their heels, especially in moments that show Zebra Katz’s talent for improvisation and drawing on the moment. The freestyle on “ZAD DRUMZ” came about after an improvised session at Red Bull in Berlin with co-producer Torus. “INTRO” was made at a party loft in Berlin. Born Ojay Morgan, Zebra Katz, is a first-generation Jamaican-American born in West Palm Beach, Florida. Morgan’s artistic days began early: his senior thesis at the Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School found him premiering “Moor Contradictions,” a precursor to LESS IS MOOR that combined performance art with music at La Mama Theatre in 2007. Skip ahead to 2012, when the music world explodes over Zebra Katz’s sensational hit, “Ima Read.” Picked up by Diplo’s Mad Decent imprint Jeffree's, the track garnered further popularity when it ran for 11 minutes on a Rick Owens runway at Paris Fashion Week. The next five years found Zebra Katz touring nonstop in Europe and the United States, delivering memorable and genre-breaking live performances at venues like the Broad Museum in Los Angeles, the New Museum in New York, the Metropolitan Museum, MoMA PS1, Brooklyn Museum, and Art Basel in Switzerland. It was during this same period that Morgan released the mixtapes Champagne and DRKLNG; two EPS, Winter Titty and Nu Renegade, a collaboration with Leila Arab. Zebra Katz wanted to dive into production for LESS IS MOOR immediately after releasing Nu Renegade, but an exciting new opportunity took him away from the project: from 2017-2018, Zebra Katz joined the Gorillaz on their Humanz tour and was featured on the tracks, “Sex Murder Party,” “The Apprentice,” and “Out of Body,” which also featured Kilo Kish and Imani Vonsha. For years, Zebra Katz has been working as an independent and self-managed artist, thriving despite the lack of backing from a major label or a debut studio album. Now, with greater support behind him, LESS IS MOOR announces a deeper look into the sonic universe of Zebra Katz. The album stays true to the off-the-cuff way that Zebra Katz initially started to make music seven years ago but it finds the musician newly empowered and unafraid of being noise-driven, biting, caustic. Nor is he afraid to draw inspiration from diverse sources like Little Richard, Nina Simone, James Baldwin, and Grace Jones. Sexually charged and abrasive, LESS IS MOOR is a bold, sonic experiment that meshes industrial hip-hop with drum ‘n’ bass and unidentifiable sonic territory. Used as early as the Middle Ages, the word “moor” refers to the black Muslims of Northern Africa. Today it simply means black and is synonymous with “negro.” When Zebra Katz says “I’m that sick sadistic fucking twisted bitch” on “ZAD DRUMZ,” he’s wearing his darkness for all to see. If you listen hard enough, you can almost hear James Baldwin saying, “To be a Negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a rage almost all the time.” LESS IS MOOR lets you into this rage so you can dance with it.

It seems as though she produces her releases in the way someone scoring a television series does, gathering and arranging their selections for each episode … isolating and apprehending definitive scenes and memorializing their ethos in song. Soundtracks, much like her release “Antifate”, guide the listener through radically different emotional states, yet somehow still offer an idea of what underpins a show's (or in this case an album's) particular hues. Ziúr produces music within such a scope, expansive, rich and diverse in texture. The sounds are simultaneously machinistic and deeply anthropomorphic, toying with mechanical isolation and the chaotic spectrum of human emotion.
