There are parties and then there are parties. The Picnic One Night Stand is one of those nights. Created by Picnic Touring and Events, One Night Stand started the party in warehouses 10 years ago with one selector curating the ultimate dance floor experience. Over the years they have entered many pages into the record books with the likes Tornado Wallace, Simon Cadlwell, Dreems, Ben Fester, Late Nite Tuff Guy and Kali. It has a pure celebration of Australian DJs with the exception of two life affirming dances with the late - and extremely great - Andrew Weatherall and Ben UFO, and tonight’s stream of the One Night Stand 10th Birthday with Marcellus Pittman.
Picnic Touring and Events has been a standout party starter in Sydney for over 13 years now, taking on everything from parties at the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Festival to warehouses, pubs and clubs all over the city. They’ve toured and partied with the best in the biz including Andrew Weatherall, DJ Harvey, Peggy Gou, Jayda G, Moodymann, DJ Sprinkles, Lena Willikens and KiNK. Through thick and thin (lockout laws, COVID, etc), their goal has been to keep this city dancing and having a hell of a time while doing it.
At Picnic’s One Night Stand 10th Birthday at Tokyo Sing Song, Marcellus Pittman played from start to finish, proving to us why he is Detroit royalty. He’s been in the game since 1993 when he made his first release with hip-hop collective “Home Grown”. It was shortly followed up with “Essential Selections, Vol. 1” on the Sound Signature label, headed by Theo Parrish. Pittman then joined forces with Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite and Kenny “Moodymann” Dixon, who became known as the 3 Chairs. Today he continues to spread the gospel of Detroit through his label Unirhythm and his epic sets around the world.
Tonight on United We Stream Australia and with our international United We Stream global family, we’re honoured to present three hours of Marcellus Pittman’s incredible set for the Picnic One Night Stand 10th Birthday.
Tonight’s stream is also raising funds for Picnic and Tokyo Sing Song. Given the current two-week lockdown in Sydney, programmers and promoters such as Picnic have again lost 100% of their income while we comply with the government’s stay at home orders.
