About GARDEN
The DJ group "GARDEN" is composed of Japanese individuals who have lived in China for many years. Since its establishment in 2020, it has attracted numerous music lovers. Through vinyl music, they bring smiles and groove to people with varied preferences. The DJs emphasize selecting music based on the atmosphere rather than sticking to a specific genre. Each time, the DJs bring over 1000 records and choose suitable songs from this collection to share a good time with you. "We're not here to be just DJs; we're here for the party."
As for Senlin, it is a House music party active in Shanghai, aiming to let everyone experience the vibrant atmosphere of the city by playing lively music, as if the forest has just come alive in spring. Its members are skilled at discovering precious gems from piles of records, and their exquisite mixing techniques make the music timeless.
Ray Kong
Ray Kong, originally from Hong Kong and currently residing in Shanghai, once worked part-time at a vinyl record store in Windsor, a Canadian city just across the river from Detroit. His visits to underground clubs in Detroit exposed him to the culture of House and Techno music, inspiring him to become a DJ. Subsequently, Ray Kong began creating music under the name "Hand Polished”, using various vintage synthesizers and drum machines to release what would be called “Soulful Electro” works under different labels, including Guidance (USA), Nutone (Canada), Do Right! (Canada), and Cookin' Records (UK). He also did remixes for Compost (Germany) and Hooj Choons (UK). Ray Kong's DJ set is like a funky and abstract musical journey, blending genres such as jazz funk, nu jazz, disco, house, and minimal to move the crowd's unsettled souls.
Ray Kong is an avid vinyl collector, gathering diverse genres such as Jazz, Funk, Disco, Nu Jazz, House, Minimal, New Wave/Post Punk, among others, mixing these different types of music to create a comprehensive musical experience in his DJ sets.
As one of the organizers of the jazz dance party "Jazz Infuse”, Ray Kong utilizes the spontaneity of jazz music as the party's concept. Freely blending tracks from different genres during DJ performances, creating a dance music experience that combines jazz and non-jazz elements.
Jazz Infuse originated in Shanghai, starting at the renowned underground club Heim and hosting events periodically, featuring both DJs and jazz musicians. Jazz Infuse has held parties not only at Heim but also at other venues including the fusion art space and performance venue System, the techno venue Celia club, the disco club Roza, the popular underground club 61Nanking in Nanjing, the award-winning resort hotel Sugar House in Yangshuo, as well as the renowned Salon10 in Hong Kong. In October of this year, Ray Kong with the Jazz Infuse collective participated in the Hong Kong Freespace Jazz Festival, where they performed improvisationally alongside various jazz musicians.
