One year on since our last showcase at Revolver Upstairs and we’re moving out from behind our office desks and behind the decks, as we take over one of Melbourne’s most renowned institutions. Join us on Labour Day Eve alongside the Novel alumni for an insight into what we listen to outside office hours.

      Over the last ten years, Gumm graduated from being an active promoter hosting renegade parties in obscure public spaces, to performing at Melbourne's biggest festivals including Let Them Eat Cake, Pitch Music & Arts and smalltown. As one of the co-founder’s of the city's Darklove brand, he's hosted international acts from The Drifter to Damon Jee, to go with his regular bookings supporting Maceo Plex, DJ Koze, Jennifer Cardini, Job Jobse, Ben Klock, ANNA, Folamour, Mind Against and more. With many exciting productions in the pipeline, including a release on Berlin-based Ombra International, Gumm is well situated to be at the Melbourne forefront of a new compelling global sound with roots in genres like nu-wave, indie-dance and nu-disco.

      Holding a strong appreciation for the sounds of Detroit techno, and Chicago’s golden house era, Marli reflects these styles in both her original productions and her DJ sets. With a history of formal music training, and years studying production, her original works have laid the foundation for her sets as a selector, frequently playing at local hotspots Dr Morse, Xe54, Section 8, Ferdydurke, and Revolver Upstairs. Thus far in her career, Marli has warmed up the decks for Detroit Swindle, Harvey Sutherland, Ben Pearce, Big Miz, Sally C, Ben Rau, and Folamour, exploring genres deep house, soul, and disco, in sets which maintain heavy syncopated rhythms, laden with rich soul samples, and a warm nostalgic vibe throughout.

      Revolver Upstairs

      Revolver Upstairs is one of Australia’s most respected nightclubs and the late night DJ spots showcase Melbourne’s best DJs as well as frequently hosting interstate Australian and international touring DJs. After the daytime service, live bands, art shows and restaurant taper down on Fridays, the club kicks off and runs right through to midday on Saturday. A few short hours later the venue reopens at 5pm running right through until 9am on Monday. The resident DJ roster reads like a who’s who of influential Melbourne artists including such names as Ransom, Boogs, Mike Callander, Spacey Space, T-Rek, Sunshine and Lewis CanCut amongst many others past and present. The Sunday day parties are a unique clubbing experience and have garnered a loyal following.
