Music
about
multidisciplinary artist from Baltimore, with roots in Taiwan
based in Brooklyn
Born and raised in Baltimore, JiaLing was a classically trained cellist for 15 years. After a tumultuous relationship with the cello, Shih moved on to study visual arts and film, discovering club music and ableton while in the studio. Recently moving back to New York from Tel Aviv where Shih was deejaying and producing events for two years, JiaLing continues to self-release tracks under a new alias/label Big J.
Her work uses performance, sound, installation & interactive media to deconstruct and heal from trauma through a cathartic creative process. Channeling inspiration from her roots as well as her experiences living in the Middle East, Australia and Asia, JiaLing explores these sonic landscapes with curiosity.
