Our return to the street is incoming as we return to the urban playground of our last Friends of Friends location. Smalltown will welcome two local luminaries in a homecoming show that will reverberate in memories forever.
Tornado Wallace is a local hero, a virtuoso of eclectic goodness whose sound resonate globally. In 2019 his closing set at Hopkins Creek went down in local music folklore. Little did we know that would be the last time he would play in his hometown for close to two years. Since Roza Terenzi left Melbourne (via Perth) to head to Europe, she released one of last year’s most impressive releases on Planet Euphorique, and completed an RA mix that threatened the spacetime continuum. We are beyond excited to welcome back two Australian (and Novel) favourites for their first local shows since pre-pandemic times.
Artists don't come more respected than Millu and Pjenne. Their taste-making skills are in demand - every DJ set of theirs is an experience. Willem and Marli are two of our most promising up-and-coming talents, two singular artists with much to offer. In other words: the support lineup is an event in itself.
To highlight the occasion, we will be rolling out the red carpet. John Fish will prepare a visual feast, a subversion of the concrete jungle into an entertaining extravaganza. Full Throttle Entertainment's finest Funktion 1 Soundsystem will be on hand to deliver a thundering and crystal clear presence.
No expense will be spared. Come envelop your senses with us.

  • Marli

Holding a strong appreciation for the sounds of Detroit techno, and Chicago’s golden house era, Marli reflects these styles in both her original productions and her DJ sets. With a history of formal music training, and years studying production, her original works have laid the foundation for her sets as a selector, frequently playing at local hotspots Dr Morse, Xe54, Section 8, Ferdydurke, and Revolver Upstairs. Thus far in her career, Marli has warmed up the decks for Detroit Swindle, Harvey Sutherland, Ben Pearce, Big Miz, Sally C, Ben Rau, and Folamour, exploring genres deep house, soul, and disco, in sets which maintain heavy syncopated rhythms, laden with rich soul samples, and a warm nostalgic vibe throughout.

  • Tornado Wallace

First blowing a gale as a forerunner of the new wave of Melbourne dance producers, Tornado Wallace’s distinct and perceptive electronics now find him in a constant rotation of both hemispheres, spending most of the year based in Berlin. From formative house beginnings, the ESP Institute initiation Thinking Allowed proved Tornado Wallace as a force to be reckoned with - the driving groove and Will Powers stargazing quickly matched by an EP of eco-electro burners on Beats In Space. This two timing continued for another round with ESP issuing the elegant Circadia, while Beats In Space got their churning acid two-tracker Kangaroo Ground/Ferntree Gully. In tandem, krautback duo Coober Pedy University Band was formed with Otologic’s Tom Moore, who he’d previously stirred up trouble with as fractions of C Grade and Animals Dancing - two long standing parties of undeniable impact on their hometown. Their trance inducing debut on Soft Rocks' imprint Kinfolk recruited vocals from a lesser known Chet Faker, followed by the bonkers 2014 anthem Kookabura. After some time in between releases due to an increasingly busy DJ schedule, 2016 sees the release of a Tornado Wallace 12” on Second Circle, sister label to cult Amsterdam archivists Music From Memory, as well as a long overdue and eagerly awaited album Lonely Planet, on Gerd Janson's Running Back. ̸SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY Tornado Wallace - Second Circle - SC005 - 2016 Kangaroo Ground/Ferntree Gully - Beats In Space - BIS018 - 2015 Circadia - ESP Institute - ESP019 - 2014 Desperate Pleasures - Beats In Space - BIS008 - 2013 Thinking Allowed - ESP Institute - ESP015 - 2013

  • Willem

With a unique sound that blends electro, tribal textures, breaks and trance influences Willem is building a name for himself as a DJ of note. In a relatively short career, he has played at Beyond the Valley, Let Them Eat Cake, XE54, Revolver, Glamorama and Brown Alley to name a few, and has been booked for supporting duties for international artists including Ben UFO, Tijana T, Oliver Huntemann, Huxley, and more. Willem also makes up one half of the Gold Haus directing team. Anyone with a passing interest in Melbourne clubland might’ve heard of the brand, that has been hosting successful events around town at hotspot venues like Section 8 and Glamorama as well as secret warehouse locations
