about
Experience the epitome of an electrifying night as Kangding Ray gets behind the cage of headquarters to usher the start of a long weekend. Surrender to the magnetic rhythms and embrace the unbridled energy as you immerse yourself in a symphony of captivating sounds and irresistible vibes.

From his early releases on the legendary German imprint Raster-Noton to his more recent, club-geared output, David Letellier, aka Kangding Ray, traces a singular trajectory while navigating the unexplored territories between experimental music and dance music.

As a former architect, Kangding Ray's multidisciplinary approach allows him to apply his craft in diverse fields such as visual arts, film scores, audiovisual installations, and dance performances. In both his DJing and live performances, Kangding Ray preserves a genuine artistic approach while carefully crafting a unique universe, equally focused on evoking an emotional response and a visceral impact on the listener. He has a number of critically acclaimed releases, all of which test boundaries while engaging both the body and the mind with his exploration of rhythm and texture.

Kangding Ray's collaborative project "Neon Chambers," with Sigha, gained global attention since the premiere of their mind-bending live show at the legendary Atonal Festival in Berlin. With only one EP released on the Dekmantel label, they have already played a number of high-profile festivals including Sonar Barcelona, Dekmantel Amsterdam, Brave Factory Kiev, Nowa Muzika, and Forte, paving the way for what is set to become an era-defining record.

Since 2019, Kangding Ray has curated his own imprint called "ara" (About Recording Artists), a platform for artists with unique sonic identities that seeks to induce deep emotion through sound. After embarking on three years of sonic research to find new directions to develop his music, moving "beyond techno," 2022 brought the return of Kangding Ray with a landmark album on his own ara imprint. ULTRACHROMA shows the esteemed producer at the height of his craft. By pushing his unique signature of angular beats and hyper-detailed textures, he reaches new frontiers.

  • Daryl Knows

Daryl Knows is a bridger of genres – from amorous soul cuts and spry jittery electro, to frisky disco rarities and his uplifting house jaunts. It’s this versatility that’s made the veteran a figure in some of Singapore’s biggest festivals. Daryl’s gig portfolio in the local bar and club circuit is compatibly expansive, filled by his duties as a longstanding stalwart resident of Headquarters, Offtrack, and Singaporean international record label, Darker Than Wax. A key member since 2016, Daryl’s been instrumental in orchestrating some of the scene’s most beloved events on behalf of Darker Than Wax, including the renowned courtyard bash, BREW, alongside the region-drawing Haw Par Thrilla spectacle with +65 promoters, Ice Cream Sundays. As a deeply embedded advocate of electronic music within the community, Daryl has also participated in historical gigs that made national headlines, spanning the pandemic-combatting #SaveMusicSG campaign and The Last Mile which bid farewell to cultural and architectural icon, Golden Mile Complex. The seasoned tastemaker’s milestones and prospects, meanwhile, stretch beyond the Lion City. Daryl’s performance accolades have seen him support the international likes of Peggy Guo, DJ Boring, Jackmaster, Demuja, Lars Vegas (Dam Swindle), Dan Shake, Frits Wentink, Young Marco, Kornel Kovacs, Luca Lozano, Christopher Rau, Hidden Spheres and Max Graef to name a few. His career wholly embraces his love of sharing sounds to audiences from all walks of life, and this has been apparent in his international appearances in London, Tokyo, Melbourne, Ho Chi Minh, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Bali where he even played for Bestival. Daryl Knows is a true Singaporean soul with global appeal, and it shows every time he hits the decks.

  • Kangding Ray

There are few musicians who manage to explore the convergence between techno and experimental as successfully as David Letellier. Kangding Ray’s complex sound aesthetic tests boundaries, evolving tirelessly in its exploration of texture, rhythm, and sound design. KR has remixed artists such as Martin Gore and Ben Frost on Mute, Battles on Warp, Oscar Mulero on Polegroup or Inigo Kennedy on Token. Letellier’s foundations in rock and musique concrete give his music a vitality and uniqueness that has won fans the world over, from discerning avant-garde–electronica listeners, all the way to devoted clubbers. Those who have been following Letellier since his debut album, 2006’s Stabil, will recognize not only his meticulous and constantly developing approach to sound design, but also the conceptual gravity behind his releases. Through a string of recent EP’s and albums, culminating with the critically acclaimed “Solens Arc”, KR showed his ability to keep his artistic approach while delivering direct and powerful club-leaning tracks and darkly cinematic soundscapes. On 2015’s “Cory Arcane”, he pushed the limits of his sound even further. Relinquishing standard rhythmic structures and conventional tonal models, he delivered what is perhaps his most sophisticated release yet; a raw and visceral universe, allowing a more fluid dialogue between soul and machines. 2017’s “HYPER OPAL MANTIS” released on Stroboscopic Artefacts heralds a new era for Kangding Ray, where he explores the tension between the natural and artificial, the body and mind, which are central themes in electronic music in general, and Techno in particular. The means of creation, focused around technology and interactions with machines, contrast with the emotional response to sound, the mystical ritual of collective dancing, and the ethos of liberation and tolerance embedded in the culture it has produced. As he describes it himself in a recent interview : “I’ve been evolving since a couple of years at the outer fringes of the club culture, where it overlaps with different experimental and avant-garde genres. While i intend to continue to explore that zone as a free maverick, i also wanted to give something back to the scene, something strong, beautiful and functional at the same time, while retaining enough personality to be exciting.” ( Adapted from words by Vincent Morris)

  • MUTO (2)

Just visualise a metropolis blanketed in austere ruin, coloured by an ominous soundtrack with a heart of iron and stone. Such is the harsh dimension introduced by Muto Masashi, a name that’s bobbed along the surface of the Singaporean electronic scene for some time now. After years of cutting his teeth in the local DJ circuit, the Japanese selector has finally released Ishi, his debut EP that translates his imagination and influences into these dystopian musical fantasies.
