fono, a multipurpose project space in Kuala Lumpur, has asked the public for help in order to continue its operations.

Fono published a post on their Instagram page on July 28, 2021 with a heartfelt message asking for donations.

“Dear family and friends, we have depleted our resources and we need your help to keep the engine running

“We believe our small space contributes a lot to our creative scene; as a platform for artists, music lovers, and the community to discover, experiment, and exchange ideas.

“We appreciate help in all forms - donations, grants, jobs, or even simply sharing this post for visibility.”

Malaysia has been under a national lockdown since June 2021. With daily cases surpassing 10k, many businesses in Malaysia have struggled to survive with many others closing down one after another.

As the lockdown continues for the Southeast Asian country, local entertainment venues and pubs such as ‘fono’ aren’t allowed to open or hold events. The lack of events and shows to host has trampled their means to earn income to sustain themselves.

Another creative space closed means one less creative outlet for local artists to express themselves. To make sure that doesn’t happen, lend your help to ‘fono’ by donating via their official website here.

Every donor will get a private link to fono’s Spotify playlist (updated biweekly), discounts to their limited edition merchandise, and early access to future events.

‘Fono’ was founded in mid-2017 as an independent social club and hi-fi listening room. It later evolved into a multipurpose project space that offers film screenings, audiovisual performances, DJ based events, creative forums, workshops, and many more.

The venue has promised that it will be accessible to the public almost every day (except during ticketed events) once the national lockdown is lifted. The public would also be welcomed to drop-in for a casual drink with friends, multipurpose spaces opened for reservations, and terrace seating available although limited.

Fono will be launching their first online radio and online store soon. To stay up to date with fono’s latest activities, follow their official Instagram page and official website.
