GIN - Co-founder of Resis’dance, Goldsnap, Nite Dykes, Black Obsidian Sound System & Director of Faggamuffin Bloc Party.
GIN (she/they) - Co-founder of Resis’dance, Goldsnap, Nite Dykez, Sex and Rage & Faggamuffin Bloc Party. GIN is a DJ & event producer w/ 10+ years experience behind the decks. They’ve played notorious stages, parties & festivals such as Body Movements, Brainchild, Lovebox & Secret Garden Party, Pxssy Palace, BBZ, Keep Hush and more. GIN is currently working with UK Black Pride as their Nightlife Liaison. GIN’s work champions Safer Spaces Policies in nightlife throughout.
Gin’s approach to event management is one that has a foundation in community organisation and creating safer spaces for Queer, Trans, Intersex, Black and People of Colour (QTIPOC). Having worked in event management for 10 years, Gin is keenly aware of how this area has a huge potential for activism and community wellbeing within the context of prioritising the lives, experiences and culture of marginalised people. Her various work has ranged from fund-raising for activist organisations to creating safe and accessible events at Hackney Carnival, to being the pioneer for Safer Spaces Policies in London which led to various groups adopting her structures as well as being invited to deliver workshops and talks to organisations such as The Tate. Gin is interested in maximising visibility and representation of marginalised people, she has a strong belief in the power of collective action through celebration as resistance. It is for this reason she is both excited and revitalised by the prospects of being part of real change through UK Black Pride, an organisation she both admires and respects. Born in Mexico and raised in Bermuda, both countries where homosexuality is stigmatised and until recently criminalised, Gin has first hand experience of the harmful effects at the intersections of homophobia and misogyny. Whilst she has found a home in London, she nonetheless has experienced major push backs in her working environments; she is keenly aware of the myriad issues, both overt and subtle, that affect Black and Brown queer people within bureaucratic systems that actively disengage marginalised people from achieving not just as individuals, but as a community. It is with this in mind that she is striving to achieve change that is community informed & led by that same community.
